The Live-in Landlord
JordanThomasHall29 August 2018
In the opening narration we learn that Convent San Tanco was built in 1572 on land granted by King Philip of Spain to the De Cordova family who rented it to the convent for $1 per year, to be renewed every 99 years. It is time for the lease to be renewed again. However, Señor Moreno (Ivor Francis) from the bank informs Reverend Mother Placido that Fabio De Cordova (familiar Italian character actor Jay Novello, "McHales' Navy") has decided to not renew the lease. He gives them three weeks to move. The elderly man arrives to explain that he De Cordova fortune is gone and he wants to sell the convent to have "a warm bed, some good food, peace, quiet, a place for my donkey- that's all that I ask; that's all that I need." Sister Bertrille talks the mother superior into letting him stay on as a "live-in landlord". Señor De Cordova begins comically disrupting their routine. Capt. Fomento begins suspecting the man to be an imposter. Things are endangered when something from his past surfaces.
