The 1935 one-dollar bill was a redesign that included a superimposed WASHINGTON D.C. and a stylized ONE over the treasury seal on the obverse. The reverse was also changed to its current design, except for the absence of IN GOD WE TRUST (added in the 1957 series).
In March 1964, the redemption of silver certificates was halted and by 1968, bills of the 1935 and 1957 series were worth little to nothing above their face values, contradicting Bruce's tip to Uncle Reggie.
