Sister Bertrille hears on the radio that notable rock group Sonny and the Sundowners are coming to San Juan to play at Carlo's casino. Sonny Howard (Paul Petersen, "The Donna Reed Show") went to high school with the sister and she goes to meet him. He is shocked to see how much she has changed from the girl voted "Most Far Out". After explaining the bad financial state of the convent, he offers that if she writes a song for the group he will use it to give the convent the royalties. He even gives her an advance, even if he doesn't like the song. The sisters split Sister Bertrille's chores so she can concentrate on penning a song. A sweet song comes to her while flying and Sonny says he can adapt it and will play it the next night. Reverend Mother Placido and the sisters go to hear the song but are dismayed to hear it turned into psychedelic rock. Its meaning and message has changed and Sister Bertrille battles her conscious with the sorely needed money for the convent.
As Season Two opens we begin seeing some changes. While retaining a message with heart there's more successful attempts for comedy, but an overactive laugh track. They try to tap into the "groovy" scene of the late 60s, as The Sundowners were an actual band of the time who perform in the show. The plot itself is stronger and more fluid than most in Season One.
