    In The Army Now

Wilma takes out an insurance policy on Fred and sends him to take a physical exam.

A funny episode. Fred is sent to the wrong address and Barney comes along. They wind up in an Army Recruitment Center and sign up for 3 years. Funniest scenes are when their sergeant (a take off on Phil Silvers and Sgt. Bilko) gets them to volunteer for launch into space.

Went after big laughs and succeeded.

After the story setup the episode got hilarious with some funny bits all linked to Fred (Alan Reed) and Barney's (Mel Blanc) stupidity. Lots of big laughs. The reflex test seems used a lot but is always funny. Of course it's dinosaurs ridden in the cavalry not horses. I liked how common sense was totally abandoned for the good of comedy. Alan Reed as the rocket scientist with a thick Russian accent was one of his best many terrific voices. Jerry Mann's voices all resemble the Phil Silvers Snorkasaurus he did earlier in season one. The animation seems to be changing a little as the series goes on. Fred and Barney seem to be drawn slightly differently. A great episode.

Fred Flintstone: We wouldn't be in the army if it wasn't for you two.

Wilma Flintstone: What? Do you mean to tell me I told you to join the army?

Fred Flintstone: You told me to go to 75 Main Street and take a physical and 75 Main Street is the Army Recruiting Office and they give physicals there!

Wilma Flintstone: [to Betty] Didn't you tell me 75?

Betty Rubble: Maybe it was 57?

Barney Rubble: All I know is it's Fred's fault.

Fred Flintstone: What do you mean my fault? It's Wilma's fault!

      Wilma Flintstone: It's Betty's fault!

Betty Rubble: [turns around] It's your fault!

[Betty notices she's looking in a mirror]

Betty Rubble: Wait a minute. Let's do that over again and I'll start it this time.
