A hero's death
Tweekums2 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
After Scorpius threatens to destroy Earth if Crichton doesn't help Crichton realises that there is only one way for them to stop the wormhole research project: they must destroy the command carrier! They try to come up with a plan to do this but can only think of one way; Crais proposes that he boards Talyn one last time and initiates a starburst inside the carrier's hanger; this will cause the destruction of Talyn and the carrier will then start to fold in on itself... which should leave time for the survivors to evacuate the ship. In order to do this John must provide a distraction and Crais must persuade Scorpius that he can be trusted; doing that will put the others in grave danger.

This was a spectacular episode; it featured more action than we have seen for some time; after Talyn starbursts the effect on the carrier is catastrophic; hulls buckle, fires break out and we even see areas flood as a torrent of water bursts though a hatch. It is a shame that we have seen the last of Lani John Tupu as he did a fine job as Captain Bailar Crais; a character that went from being the villain of the show to being a hero who sacrificed himself to save the others. Amidst all the action there was some time for humour; I had a good laugh when Crichton gave Grayza the highly appropriate nickname 'Commandant Cleavage' when talking to Scorpius! The ending had a surprising 'end of season' feel to it as some of the crew members discuss leaving Moya... there is one more episode to go though.

Quite possibly one of the greatest...

...villain unravels of all time. Unfortunately to truly appreciate it you will need to suffer through some fairly bad episodes in Season 1 and stretches of other seasons. But I will always remember the remarkable beauty of the final development of Scorpius.
