The Portrait (1987)
Jack Coleman: Steven Carrington
Quotes
-
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : It's just that I was all alone, and suddenly there was a flash of lightning, and then the thunder...
Steven Carrington : And you're more afraid of it than Danny is, in spite of your little act back there, I remember.
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : [little sigh] The night of that big storm when I first came to the mansion, and ended up in your bed.
Steven Carrington : Isn't Clay back at Delta Rho?
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : No. We had an argument about the annulment and he left in a huff.
Steven Carrington : Oh. I'm sorry. I was hoping you two could work it out.
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : [nods, and then thunder claps, startling her] Uh... this is dumb, I should just get going.
Steven Carrington : Wait a minute. You'll just go home, and be afraid all over again. You can stay here. Danny invited you, and now I'm inviting you. You can sleep in my bed, I'll take the couch.
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : Steven, thank you, but I can't.
Steven Carrington : Wait a minute. Just... take your coat off, and I'll go get a pair of my pajamas. No argument, okay?
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : [nods] Okay.
[he turns to go get the pajamas, and she looks very happy to stay over]
-
Steven Carrington : [discussing Danny] He thinks you're wonderful.
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : He's just a kid. What does he know?
Steven Carrington : I'm serious, you're wonderful with him.
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : That's nice to hear. You know what, Steven? I'm not all that hungry. Besides, I'm not six-two and I don't jog eight to nine miles every morning.
[Steven smiles]
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : You used to do that when we were married, remember? You didn't know it, but I used to watch for you from the upstairs window, waiting for you.
[they both smile]
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : Well, I'd better get going. You've got to get to the office, and I have things to do.
-
Steven Carrington : [knocking on her door as she works at her desk] Mind if I come in?
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : No, in fact I wish you would.
Steven Carrington : [entering] I just left Danny at the stables. He's feeding sugar cubes to Valez. It's one happy kid.
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : [rising from desk and coming around eagerly] Well, then I'll go see him.
Steven Carrington : Wait a minute, wait. I thought... I thought maybe the three of us would have some dinner here, and Danny could stay over, and you and I could go out for a night on the town.
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : Any particular reason?
Steven Carrington : Absolutely none. Just an impulse. I mean, if you don't want to go...
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : No...!
[eager, bright smile]
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : I'd love to.
-
Clay Fallmont : [coming up to Sammy Jo and Steven swaying on the dance floor] You guys having fun?
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : As a matter of fact, we are.
Clay Fallmont : Looks like it. The only problem is, pal, this lady happens to be my wife.
Steven Carrington : Look, Clay, it's just...
Clay Fallmont : [brusque] I didn't finish. She asked for an annulment. You know about that?
Steven Carrington : [nods] Yeah, I know about that.
Clay Fallmont : [nods back] Then you probably know too, you're responsible for it.
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington : Let's get out of here, Steven.
[starts leaving]
Clay Fallmont : [to Steven] You used your son to get back into her life. And the ironic thing is... you're not even a man.
[Steven punches him, and a fight ensues]
