Enchante? Non, blase.

Prince Louis-Philippe of France, dispossessed by the French Revolution, is visiting the American frontier. But during a Boonesborough stopover, he dispenses with the royal treatment by switching places with his cook.

A "Prince and the Pauper" redo, with British invasion camp follower David Watson as Louis, in his third DB appearance. Philip Proctor ("Toy Story") is the cook Bernard, and making a valiant attempt to inject some real laughs is tv journeyman Murray Macleod as an overdressed Frasier Craneish Boonesborough fop.

More education this hour in how to land a series that has jettisoned its motivatio. The outing dutifully complied with the late-Vietnam era guidelines for much of primetime - no violence, family-friendly, and always default to humor even when unhumorous. Lots of Boonesborough antics here as the townsfolk fall over each other seeking royal favor, and that is about it. Dan and an even lesser-used Gabe walk the sidelines, though Dan brandishes his flintlock briefly in an homage to the series' better days. For those who enjoy, lots of fake French accents.

But, the hour does find some historical grounding, though likely by stumbling into it on the dark. The real Prince Louis-Philippe escaped Revolutionary France and was compelled to travel covertly for many years, and did visit the U. S. during 1796-98. He traveled at one point from Boston to New Orleans, and might have touched down in Kentucky. When the Bourbons were restored again in 1830 he took the throne; nicknamed "Louis the Pear," he was deposed in 1848.

As a diversion episode this might have been innovative in an earlier DB season, but this late in the game its easy to discern a filler hour.
