Storyline
Did you know
- TriviaGideon profiles a killer and correctly predicts that he would have a speech impediment. This was based on a real-life case investigated by FBI agent John Douglas, former chief of the FBI's Investigative Support Unit.
- GoofsWhen Reid and Morgan are trying to figure out the computer password, they pull Metallica's "Some Kind of Monster" out of the CD tray, and Reid guesses that the password is "Enter Sandman", but that track is not on that CD. So it's not possible for the killer to listen to that track when falling asleep. (When Reid suggests "Enter Sandman" it is in response to Morgan saying "I'm an insomniac who listens to Metallica to fall asleep at night. What song could possibly speak to me?" Also the CD is in the laptop computer. When Morgan lays down on the bed he reaches over his head and pulls down a portable CD player with headphones, which is probably what Richard listens to while trying to fall asleep.)
- Quotes
Derek Morgan: [breaking into an encrypted computer] In six tries?
Jason Gideon: Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
Dr. Spencer Reid: Samuel Beckett.
Derek Morgan: Try not. Do or do not.
Dr. Spencer Reid: [Gideon looks confused] Yoda.

Extreme Aggressor
The first episode of Criminal Minds has some flashy shots to establish itself from rival shows and its dark subject matter.
Mandy Patinkin is Special Agent Jason Gideon, teaching FBI recruits in Quantico, but now bought back to the field after what seems like a nervous breakdown.
The show is about the FBI Agents in the Behavioral Analysis Unit, in short profilers who have been beloved since Will Graham and the film Manhunter. This means we enter the minds of very bad people and what could be race against time.
Gideon has been flown into Seattle as a woman has been lured and is likely to be held for seven days before being strangled. She is the latest victim and in some ways the aggressor wants to be caught and may even have left clues behind.
The pilot episode was suspenseful and at times grim, Gideon is brilliant at reading people and situations but I was not overly impressed by it. Maybe it needed some silliness or even black humour.
