Love This Episode
Hitchcoc27 August 2019
Before Sam finds out he has not fathered a child, he promises God he will not have sex for three months. So there's the premise. What unfolds is wonderful. He is inundated with beautiful young women, coming on to him. There are great scenes, like his meeting with a priest (Erich Christmas from our own Guthrie Theatre) and Woody coming in the door, dressed as Moses. And the finale is terrific. Don't miss this one.

Swear to God (#7.2)

Warning: Spoilers
One of the women Sam had sex with calls and says that she has a child and he might be the father. Sam swears to God not to have sex for three months if he ends up not being the father. When he finds out that he isn't he really struggles with his promise and almost breaks it until he finds a bible in a hotel drawer and thinks it is a miracle.

Never thought Sam was that into God. But this brings us a fun episode. Him freaking out when Woody walks into the bar dressed as Moses was a great moment. And so was the ending when he so excitedly tells Carla and Frasier about the bibles in the hotel rooms without realizing that it is a normal thing!

No Sex For Sam Malone
Bolesroor30 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Sam's reckless sex life catches up to him when an ex-girlfriend claims he's the father of her child. Of course it's a false alarm, but as thanks to God Sam vows to give up sex for one month. Can he do it?

This is a fun and lighthearted episode that might have worked better as the Season Seven premiere. The only over-the-top sight gag here is Woody showing up to the bar dressed as Moses and screaming "Halt, infidel!" for no apparent reason. As someone involved in community theater I can assure you that no actor ever leaves the theater in costume and makeup, for any reason, that no local theater group has understudies and that even if they did there would be no reason for them to ever get in costume. Oh well...

I always found the ending of this episode especially well-written. The fact that Sam finds his faith by not knowing there are Bibles in every hotel room in America is just unrealistic enough to be brilliant. This episode introduces the character of Father Barry as played by actor Eric Christmas, and the scene between he and Sam is a nice change of pace for the show, genuinely heartfelt and funny. A very good episode.
