Decent Episode, but a Bit Slow Moving
justinenyman31 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Charmed had a few very weak episodes and this one was one of them. Besides the ending when Javna almost murders Phoebe to gain his youth, the episode was a bit slow. Still an amazing episode because Javna was scary/creepy, but slow moving throughout most of the episode.

His name is Javna

Warning: Spoilers
Season 1 is known for its quaintness, being dark, and for a stronger focus on the lives of the sisters themselves. I also appreciate it for the variety of its bad guys. Here we get what I guess is our first demon, though he bears little resemblance to the demons of future seasons other than he likes to wear black. Not a terribly exciting villain other than he sucks the vitality out of young women to stay young himself and his insistence on telling his victims his name - Its JAVNA, in case you were wondering.

Here again it is Phoebe's premonitions and luck that brings Javna into the sisters' circle. Phoebe carelessly getting herself into danger, as she does here, would become a familiar engine for conflict. At least until Phoebe is replaced as the youngest sister by someone even more reckless than her.

Fortunately, Javna was in the Book of Shadows as was his bane - the Hand of Fatima. Credit to the producers for digging into Islamic lore here. In season 1, they are all over the place.

Really, the bad guy subplot is kind of a snoozer with the real driver of the episode being the sisters each dealing with their new powers in their own way. Prue is worried about the dangers involved and wondering how she is supposed to live a normal life. Phoebe is already breaking the rules by using her powers for personal gain, by the way, that's something all 3 sisters will do quite regularly this season. And Piper is afraid that she is now evil and may end up being burned at the stake.

Fortunately, those three threads along with Javna are masterfully woven together to produce an enjoyable second episode.

Forever Young

Prue regrets of having one nightstand with Inspector Andy Trudeau, while she goes to an interview trying to find a job in the Buckland Auction House. Piper is afraid of being a witch and guess what might happen if she enters in a church. The police force is investigating the disappearance of four young women, including Piper's acquaintance Brittany Reynolds, a woman with a tattoo of an angel in one of her hands. Phoebe is invited to work as a model for the photographer Stephan, who is actually a Javna, a demon that sucks the youth from women to stay young forever.

"I've Got You Under My Skin" is a delightful episode of "Charmed", where the Halliwell sisters are leaning how to deal with their powers. In spite of promising not using their abilities, Phoebe and Prue can not resist the temptation. However, Phoebe leans that she cannot use her ability of see the future for her self-benefit. My vote is nine.

The One With Javna...

Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode so much. It's kind of creepy, especially since I was about six when I saw it. But anyway, great episode.

In this episode, Phoebe just can't help seeing into the future. And Piper and Prue are very mad at her because she's using her powers. I think that's really mean. If Phoebe wants to use her powers, let her. You can't just dictate who's allowed to use their own powers. One of the sisters' friends goes missing. And she turns up a few days later, but she's aged at least sixty years. Prue and Piper find out that the demon doing this is Javna. He is a demon that looks human, but needs to take the youth of people, to make him look young. Phoebe met him when he looked young and handsome, and since he was a photographer, he offered to take her picture. She jumped at the chance and went strait into his trap. Piper and Prue realize that Stefan (Javna in young, human form) is really Javna. And they must go save Phoebe. They use the Hand Of Fatima to vanquish the evil demon, restoring youth to all of his victims, including their friend.

Overall, I give this episode an 8 out of 10.

Scary

Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode. The artist who turns into a demon is HOTT. He had me steaming. I think it's cool that Leigh Allyn Baker alternated between Ellen (Will & Grace) and Hannah (Charmed). She's a great actress, who surprised me, by how calm she acted on Charmed. She was too ditsy on Will & Grace. I like the naive way Phoebe acts, when she is told she'll be a model. But when she has a premonition of the photographer being a demon, she runs away from the scene, like a responsible person. This episode was one of the scarier episodes of Charmed. The first season was real thrilling, but later on it became a comedy.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Warning: Spoilers
A delightful follow up to the pilot as the sisters adjust to their witch heritage. Piper wondering if being one makes them automatically evil beings. Prue worrying about their safety since now that the whole underworld is coming after them. Phoebe, being her carefree self wants to use her powers for personal gain and to help an old couple about to lose their house.

The mystery elements work wonderfully as they must help a friend who's ages beyond her years. The demon Javna works on a historic folk life level and How deadly vanity can be. The makeup is very rich and scary.

I can't help, but love season one for being dark yet focusing on the sisterhood and saving innocents. Its why they were given their powers and it in my opinion works to show how strong they are becoming. A fun trivia fact is Miss Reynolds will appear again in the comics aged to help her friends with a new mystery and save lives in the process. It all comes full circle like a wheel.
