Beware of the baby
owlaurence27 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I find it rather hard to give a mark to this episode. The main plot is rather average. The villains are not frightening in the least and they are easily destroyed, after which the danger seems to just disappear on its own. And guess what, we get to meet a seer who senses trouble to come... wait a sec, hasn't that been done in season 3, 4 and I don't know how many single episodes ?

BUT. But the episode is brimming full of little details and significant instants that make it feel real and rich. Learning the name that Piper had initially chosen for her daughter. Watching Paige's disappointment that she is not listed in the family tree, and her jaw-dropping "dissatisfied customer" act. The whole Market setting, which adds depth to the magical world. The real explanation for why the alarm keeps ringing, which is so cute and realistic. The crone and the parasites. Even Phoebe's new crush is somewhat interesting, which was not a given after Cole.

As many little details that are not particularly dwelt on and are not necessarily important for the plot, but they contribute to making this episode feel rich and lifelike. And Piper's final choice for the baby's name is beautiful in itself, as it really brings in the "loose" members of the family, making the newborn a symbol of their union.

Baby Heist

Warning: Spoilers
Baby's first demon has a great concept about a demon market where they can exchange magical items and upgrade powers for a price. The charmed ones have to protect Wyatt from them before they can kidnap the baby. It really shows how caring his aunt's are as Phoebe creates him an alarm system or Paige willing to go undercover and risk her life for her nephew. The parasite demons are to me the last freaky demons to appear with their sullen eyes and albino skin. Their powers to drain a host reminds me an awful lot of a parasite that never stops until the host is dead and thus pose a great threat.

Another concept that intrigued me was the crime who wants the baby for an unspecific reason and placed the bounty on his head. It almost feels like a baby swap ring if you take out the supernatural angle with a hawker, the middle man and the head of the agency taking children for cash to give to someone else. Very true to real life horror stories that first time parents go through and really hits close to home to be cautious of where your children are.
