When P3 Becomes a Zoo
claudio_carvalho21 February 2007
On Valentine's Day eve, three college mates of Phoebe buy a witchcraft book to cast a spell seeking dates, transforming animals in humans for twenty-four hours. They tape Phoebe's correct spell and transform a serpent, a rabbit and a pig in men. However, they become humans with animal instinct, threatening and killing people. Meanwhile, Prue feels uncomfortable at home without working and Piper is divided between her love for Dan and for Leo.

"Animal Pragmatism" is a funny episode, mainly when the humans in P3 are transformed in animals and the place becomes a zoo. The story has the usual flaws of this series, without any consequences for the deaths, but entertains. My vote is eight.

V-Day Meets Animal Farm
seneuser22 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The monster subplot involving 3 coeds turning animals into men because they want sex is somewhat ridiculous and totally doesn't work if it was men casting the spell. Fortunately, this episode is just as much about Valentine's Day and Piper's dilemma as she contemplates closing the love triangle, and that subplot is good enough for a 7 especially thanks to the final scene.

Phoebe is now at college, and we see her attending class. She should be one of the older kids in the class, but of course, everyone is older in Hollywood so all the other students look about the same age as her. She immediately has the eyes for some mediocre guy. It never takes her long. She helps out three gals who bought a Valentine's Day magic book (odd) by rewording a spell that would turn animals into men. The three gals are short dates for Valentine's Day and are interested in such things. By the way, the gals are living in a dorm flush with horny young men, but still feel the need to resort to witchcraft for some reason. As it turns out they recorded Phoebe's voice when she worded the spell and thus, of course, it works, turning a snake, rabbit and pig into men (not sure where the pig came from). Apparently males of any species are the same as the new changelings are totally willing to fulfill the needs of the women. Try to imagine this with the sexes reversed. Nah, wouldn't happen. Anyway, I do get a kick out of the rabbit and snake, and I like that they went with common mythos by making the snake the devious one. However, I'm not sure what the rabbit's issue is. I've never seen a mean rabbit before, and they totally blew the pig who actually should be the smartest of the three.

Anyway, the newly conjured men quickly learn that they have an expiration date. They need Phoebe to change that and are willing to kill anyone they need to get what they want.

Meanwhile, Leo is helping Piper out, or she is helping him out, but working at P3's. It is Valentine's Day and the Lord of Simp, Dan, arrives at P3's with flowers and a dinner date. He is bewildered at the sight of Leo and immediately jealous, even openly admitting it. This is the first time Dan actually became interesting. If he wasn't a simp, he'd know to get out ASAP as your GF having an ex hanging around is a red flag the size of China. Dan and Leo's adversarial looks to one another is one of the best things about this episode. I also love that Phoebe and Prue, always big fans of Dan, are clearly now on Leo's side, harassing Piper about getting Leo a Valentine's Day gift. She eventually just goes and gets him a card meant for a friend, which backfires when Dan sees it and knows it is for Leo.

Eventually, all roads lead to P3's, including Daryl, who is after the animal men after they start a crime spree. Phoebe, the spellcaster extraordinaire, eventually casts a spell to turn everyone in the club into animals, for mostly the sake of comedy, of course. Once the animals turned men turned animals again are caged, Phoebe then reverses the spell and turns everyone back. The animal men are now men permanently, but they are under arrest and headed to prison.

The episode ends with Piper getting a card from Leo, which causes her to fantasize about walking over to him in the club and engaging in a passionate kiss right there. It's just a fantasy for now.

Happy Valentine's Day

Warning: Spoilers
Phoebe helps out a few friends conjure up some fates for Valentine's day and the animen go crazy scary the local college kids. Meanwhile Dan tries to woo Piper with gift and finds out her heart belongs to a certain whitelighter. This was a fine attempt at a first holiday theme with decorations, fates and Dan's romantic dinner for Piper. The animen on the other hand don t become interesting till the end when they realize the spell is temporary and take hostages to force the witches hands.

My only problem is the crowd at p3 being turned into animals as a consequence as it takes away from the story line and was ridiculous. I would've much preferred them becoming hybrids to keep the dark tone and the in with the animen.

The One On Valentine's Day...

Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode. It's one of my favorite episodes from this Season, although they're all great. I love that they incorporated Valentine's Day into, seeing as how there isn't many holiday episodes in this series.

In this episode, Phoebe accidentally rewords a "spell" from a witchcraft book, to a couple of her college friends. Then, on Valentine's Day Eve, they bring a pig, snake, and rabbit into their dorm, and play the spell back, turning the animals, into men. The animals now enjoy being men, but once they discover that it's only for twenty-four hours, they desperately want to find Phoebe, so she can make it permanent. They want this so much, that when they start turning back into animals, the snake bites two of the three girls, and they pass out. Since they've already locked the other girl in a cage, they take the next step, and kill the pig, because he doesn't want to hurt anymore. The pig is actually very sweet. They also kill a man, and steal his car. The sisters have to find the ani-men, and stop them from hurting anyone else. This ends with the ani-men becoming humans permanently, but going to jail for their crimes. While this is happening, everyone at P3 gets turned into an animal. Meanwhile, Piper is trying to deal with her feels for both Dan, and Leo. And Prue gets used to be unemployed, but ends up helping Piper, and Phoebe out.

Fun Fact: This is the first time Darryl mentions he's married.

Fun Fact: When Prue astral projects at P3, she doesn't seemed concerned with exposure.

Best part of the episode: Honestly can't decide.

Worst part of the episode: The ani-men killing the pig.

Evil beings: The ani-men.

Overall, I give this episode a 10 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Freaking Ridonkulous.

Very fun episode.

It's below average compared to the rest of the season, but it's also guilty pleasure Charmed episode at its finest. Interesting plot, fine humor, romance and good music. Piper's transition between Dan to re-Leo is done smoothly, and in a believable way. The monsters of the week, can get a little confusing, with the way they behave sometimes (especially the rabbit) and the special effects were very cheap looking this time. But like I said, it's a lot of fun, and the closing scene gives you goosebumps.
