The gas station attendant tells two different customers he can only sell then 10 gallons of gas. The reason for this is that it was during the OPEC oil embargo when gasoline supplies to the U.S. and other countries were dramatically curtailed and prices spiked. Many stations would only sell five gallons at a time. This was due to state anti-hoarding laws enacted to prevent people from filling extra gas cans. Also, many cars at the time, like Cannon's, had enormous gas tanks since they got such poor mileage (Cannon's car would have gotten about 12 miles to the gallon).

MacGyver Before MacGyver

I agree with those who said this doesn't feel like it started out as a "Cannon" episode, and perhaps it started life as a script for "Mannix." Actually, it feels more like a MacGyver script the way Frank has to be resourceful with his fishing gear, when his car phone is destroyed and his pistol is emptied. Perhaps "Cannon" was MacGyver's spiritual godfather.

The biggest crime, though, wasn't commited by the escaped convict who has it in for Frank - it's that there's no credit for the show's real star, Napoleon the dog. Was that Benji (Higgins)? Sure looked like him, and the timeline is right. I demand justice for a very good boy!
