- Cory and Shawn don't exactly enjoy their first day of high school.
- Cory () is excited about his first day in high school as a seventh grader, believing that his notes detailing Eric's advice will help him know how to fit in. He plans to introduce himself to Harley, a formidable senior student, and earn his respect and protection, although Shawn () is less sure of the plan. They are both also relieved to be out from under the thumb of the strict Mr. Feeny (). Eric () orders Cory not to bother him or acknowledge their relation at school "for appearances." At school, things start badly when Cory and Shawn come across some older bullies who put Shawn in a locker, but they are relieved to find that they are in the same homeroom, along with Topanga (). Spotting an unfamiliar, cool-looking guy in the hallway, Cory assumes he is the legendary Harley and introduces himself, but it turns out he is Mr. Turner (), their new teacher. In class, he proves his coolness by assigning the students an X-Men comic book as homework, but then instructs them to compare it to The Odyssey, leading Cory to deem him "Feeny with an earring."
Cory and Shawn are soon separated for their next classes, and Eric pretends not to know Cory when he seeks his advice. He finally locates Harley (), who seems interested in Cory's offer of servitude and gives him a new "tough" name, but they soon find themselves dragged to the office of the principal, who is none other than Feeny, and Harley vows to kill Cory at 3:00 for getting him into trouble. At lunch, Feeny meets with Turner and voices his disapproval of his "groovy" ways and the comic-book assignment. Shawn and Cory appeal to Eric again for help, and he advises Cory to take refuge in the nurse's office. Cory decides he does not want to be cowardly, however, and stands up to Harley, and Eric intervenes as well, acknowledging that Cory is his little brother. Mr. Turner sends Harley away before any violence can ensue, and Cory thanks his brother for trying to help him out, although Eric makes it clear that it was a one-time occurrence.
