Boston Legal-Still Crazy After All These Years

In this episode of Boston Legal, Alan(James Spader) is successful in getting a former lover who tried to run him over with an automobile out of a mental institution, her temporary guardian until she supposedly returns to her parents in Chicago. What Alan doesn't expect is that Christine (Elizabeth Mitchell) would not return to Chicago, showing up in places where he is, like a club, or his office, which begins to disturb him. It also places an unnecessary strain on Alan's relationship with Sally(Lake Bell). Denny Crane(William Shatner) wants to be in charge of a deposition, but his colleagues at the firm, such as Paul(Rene Auberjonois) and Brad(Mark Valley), are concerned he will complicate matters. Denny's questions during the depositions to the prosecution's client (Frances Fisher) regarding her sexual relations during her husband's heart condition and after his death gets him in trouble and brought to court by the opposition as being indecent and morally ambivalent for a practicing attorney. Denny wants to represent himself while Brad voices his concern that Crane is a liability, a parody of the lawyer he once was. Of course, Denny Crane proves them wrong and wins his case, getting a settlement and embarrassing the prosecutor when he explains his reasons for the sexual content used during the deposition. Lori (Monica Potter) tries to persuade Sally that Alan could be the wrong man for her while he disrupts her attempts. Spader has several instances of sexual foreplay, such as his moment with Sally, beckoning her to "go shopping" for something to "slide easily out of" while also massaging Lori's feet (it's a fetish he explains) when she is alone and suffering from a nasty bunion. The episode's topics are whether or not a woman is really cured even if she seems to be mentally well and whether or not Denny is still the lawyer he once was. There's a powerful scene where Paul compares Denny to Muhammad Ali during his last fight to Larry Holmes explaining that yes Crane is still a good lawyer but no longer in his prime. Another strong scene has Brad confronting Denny about his "deterioration". The final scene hints that Christine could be around for quite some time, accepting a job with a law firm, leaving the viewer wondering if Alan should always look over his shoulder, or be prepared for constant run-ins with this woman.

Alan begins the episode by getting a woman out of a psychiatric hospital. She had actually tried to kill him with her car. She seems fine now as he sticks his neck out for her. But there's apparently more to the story. Back at the firm a few things are going on. Denny Crane insults a woman who just lost her husband and the wolves come after him. Brad hears of a potential coup where Crane is being set up by the partners hoping to get rid of him through incompetence.
