When the PET scanner is started Denny's watch and a metal chair are attracted to the machine. Two problems: PET scans aren't magnetic machines, those are MRI scanners; and if they were, there would not be a metal chair in the room that was within the magnetic field, and the watch would have been removed.
In criminal trials, the prosecutor makes closing remarks, the defense attorney makes closing remarks, then the prosecutor makes closing arguments rebutting what the defense attorney said because the burden of proof is on the prosecutor. However, in this trial they did not have the prosecutor make arguments at the end.
In the story the doctor injects other people with fat cells harvested from his own body for cosmetic surgery but it's impossible to do since you can't really inject one person's fat into another person's body. It would be rejected by the recipient's body immediately due to DNA mismatch and fail.
Shirley starts reading "It was the best of times..", the opening lines to the novel, but she opens the book far beyond the first pages.
