True friendship and Second Chances

Warning: Spoilers
this story touched me in ways that remind me of how I never got to stay long enough in one place to make friends and how that isn't always the making of a true friendship. Danny Kidd saw a man in serious trouble while he was working on the chain gang at the Ponderosa and he automatically thrust himself into action to save him and said it was just for the horse. I didn't even believe that. When he asked for re-payment (in response to Joe) He asked to have the shackles removed from his body, he never dreamed that it would really happen. Imagine, you having to spend your entire life institutionalized since you were orphaned at 5 years old. Sent to prison at 13 because you defended the little food you received. Yet this 23 old man by the name of Danny Kidd was not an animal, just told he was one as often as they could to justify their cruelty. Little Joe saw the good human being in this man and was determined to stand by him. Thank God that young woman told the truth! there was an unspoken bond between Joe and Danny. As Ben put it at the end, "There go two wealthy men. Something that money can't buy... friendship." I found this story to be a beautiful one. True friendship and second chances in this life are rare. You have to make the most of either if they ever come your way.

Damn good Bonanza story of Joe and Danny Kidd; Kidd saves Joe and Joe fights for Danny release from prison. Both have to adjust to each other and the give and take of everyday life. Very good story of second chances and friendship. I fully enjoyed this episode.

And this one definitely makes up for that last episode that I thought was total crap.

I guess I come away from the episode with a different feeling than it focusing on friendship or having faith in somebody that's gotten the crap end of the stick for the majority of his life and seeing him build a life he can be happy with.

A couple of the scrapes Danny got into weren't his fault. I think I view this episode as something that ties into real life. Why do so many get kicks from harassing people that aren't doing anything to them? Danny has a doll that has great meaning for him and two guys find it and are harassing him about it. The doll is Danny's and he explained the significance of the doll in another scene. But these men don't know Danny to know if he's "playing with dolls" or not. For all they know, Danny might've had a child that passed away and that doll was considered a favorite toy. But these men are harassing Danny and later on Danny loses his temper. Joe's gotta pull Danny off one of the guys or else he'd kill him. It's not like the guys weren't doing anything to Danny and Danny just snapped. They were the ones starting the crap to start with him.

And another scene is of a woman with Danny. Danny admits to not having much experience with women. The two kiss and the woman ends up laughing/making fun of Danny's lack of experience with women. Danny grabs her and kisses her harder and the sleeve of her dress gets ripped. Thankfully the woman at least had the decency to admit later on that what happened was her fault instead of Danny's. I still don't know what the woman was expecting. Danny admitted he didn't have much experience with women so if she expected a casanova? What made you think that'd be what you'd get?

This is the only episode Dean Jones was in and I pretty much figured it to be that way instead of him popping up every now and again and the storyline of Joe's friendship with him could continue. I've watched "Little House on the Prairie" too much to realize people don't stick around. I pretty much write it off as they got sucked into a black hole or they died because cursed Charles Ingalls helped them in some way.

I don't want to think of Danny as being sucked into a blackhole and the Cartwrights don't give me that cursed vibe that the Ingalls give me where practically everything turns to crap for them. I like to think that somewhere in his life he came across the Weary Willies and he could hang out with them. The Weary Willies episode was an episode that stuck with me and I want to rewatch it before I properly review it. It struck a chord in me when you had Richard Thomas' character saying he didn't like this world. I seem to recall people were harassing his character and his friends as well.
