"Identity" presents something new for the 12th Precinct, as Wojo just happens by old Mr. Cotterman's store to witness the man (Jack Somack, fourth of six) being robbed at gunpoint. The culprit (Don Calfa, fourth of seven) gives his name as Calvin J. Kendall, but has an ace up his sleeve, courtesy the Justice Department- agent Chester Monahan (David Clennon, third of five), who reveals that Kendall is in actuality part of a witness relocation program, who would certainly be killed if he were to go to prison. Cotterman simply wants to see justice done, but finds it difficult to comprehend (Monahan: "he's actually somebody else!" Cotterman: "this is gibberish!" Wojo: "all federal people talk that way, Mr. Cotterman!"). Meanwhile, an air traffic controller (Kip King, second of two) goes berserk in the subway, diverted from shooting Harris by an alert Dietrich. Harris wants to make sure he gets a nice long rest: "I figured air travel was inappropriate, so I booked him on a loco motive!" What truly aggravates Harris is that he owes his life to Dietrich, who simply wants him to forget it. Harris winds up writing out a check for $100 to Dietrich, but will it actually be cashed?
