Fighting or dancing?

Warning: Spoilers
Andy learns a valuable lesson as he tries to get a husband and wife to get along better ( they bicker and fight to the point the police are called) on a regular basis too . No actual abuse but it seems being nice to each other causes them to be rude to everyone else! For whatever reason they prefer it the other way they don't even think they are really fighting and they are genuinely very nice to others when they are battling each other. . Meanwhile Andy starts paying Opie and his friend to play nice but it doesn't work there either. Aunt Bee and Opie key Andy in and he sets things right.

A different kind of episode. An interesting change of pace in a rather underrated episode.

This one always makes me laugh...

I just love this episode. While it's not one of my very favorites, it never fails to make me laugh. It's one of the more overtly funny episodes but it also illustrates a good point about bottling up your emotions! The show begins with Barney and Andy very frustrated with a local couple who have been having some horrible fights--so loud that they keep getting calls from their neighbors who are complaining. It's odd, as when the two are apart, they are sweet as can be to the people in the community--but together they are just plain nasty. So, instead of just locking them up again and again for disturbing the peace, Andy has a brilliant idea--force the couple to endure niceness lessons together every day! It's really funny to watch the two being kind to each other, as they are obviously in great pain! And, it's also very funny to see how this positive change in the way they treat each other actually has negative consequences for everyone around them! Very clever and original from start to finish.

This is the episode when I think of least favorites.

A couple fighting is like a dog barking. It wears thin very fast. The episode didn't have much substance beating the fighting bit to death. I've always been a big Jesse White (Fred Boone) fan. This episode doesn't do him justice how funny he is. He's hilariously better in shows like "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "Green Acres". Claudia Boyer as Jennie Boone is a fine actress, but not particularly funny. We get a early look at future big TAGS contributors Forrest Lewis and Norman Leavitt in mildly funny roles here. Odd and out of character that Andy would bribe Opie to behave for a good portion of his future weekly allowance. I raised my 2* rating to 4* because of Barney's (Don Knotts) judo high jinx, especially the funny epilogue where he has his classic pained look..
