Great show for little ones!
hls47821 March 2006
My son really likes this show (he is 16 months). It has animals and songs, which are two of his favorite things. Not a lot can hold his interest, but this is one of the few cartoons that does. Plus, it doesn't bother me too much to watch it. Some of the newer cartoons I just don't like. I also highly recommend the Backyardigans for this age, Clifford, and Clifford's Puppy Days. All of his favorites.

It's a Big, Big World is mainly about a giant sloth and his other animal friends, which include a fish, a couple of monkey's, a bird, and a tree frog. Also, there is a knowledgeable turtle whom they go to for advice. It is entertaining and educational.

Absolute favorite show for our baby daughter
v10mark1 December 2006
Excellent show - the animation and puppeteering is fantastic and high quality. The story lines are all very friendly and positive. They pace is not the hyperkinetic, seizure inducing frentic, change scenes three times a second style that dominates too much programming for kids. Our daughter absolutely loves this show, and smiles and babbles happy noises when she hears the theme song. She has a total crush on Snook the Sloth and smiles when he is on screen. She especially loves the closing song.

The themes the show covers are all good, learning friendly concepts - science, math, self-discovery, getting along, confronting fear and doubt sensibly, and growing. The animals are mostly youngsters with some adults, like Snook and Madge the turtle, to guide and mentor the young animals.

One small criticism - Bob. What is up with Bob? He has his "moments." He's the Woody Allen of the World Tree. Bob ought be voted off the island. Also, Snook is indeed a stoner, but a lovable one.

Hey PBS - how about a DVD?

Excellent Show!

My 17 month old daughter just loves this show. As soon as she hears the first few notes of the opening song a smile from ear to ear appears. From that point on she's a happy little girl. The music makes her dance. The best shows for her are the ones in which they really focus on the music as she is still too young to follow a storyline. The great part about the show is that my husband and I can actually sit with her and watch this program without going insane.(What's with Boobah, anyway?) I hear tell that adults are watching this show even without their kids being around. In our family even Grandma and Grandpa are hooked. This show is great fun!

liberal, new age fluff - plus, my kids have no interest in it
lionsden246 September 2007
I am so glad this show is no longer on our local PBS station. First of all, it displaced our family's all time favorite, Arthur, for the prime morning time slot. That personal affront aside...

The show tries to teach general tolerance and love for everyone and everything - not a bad thing, except that it's all coming from a very liberal, new age mindset ("spirit of the tree") that I don't particularly agree with. I'm not sure a sloth is the most appealing lead character either. But I suppose this could just be an incredible tactic to make the show bulletproof to criticism since I now find myself being 'intolerant' of a sloth and all the negative stereotypes that come with that creature (e.g. slow, lazy).

But most importantly, none of my kids ages 5, 3, and 1, have any more patience for the show than I do. Yes, we are a family in total agreement...

So long, World Tree!

Unbelievably Wonderful For All Ages!
duceyco5 November 2006
I have discovered this show while watching PBS with my 11 month old daughter.

The opening song caught BOTH of our attention and I'm AMAZED on how they made the puppets work.

Jaiden seems to have a love for music and "It's a Big Big World" is her favorite tune. She could be doing anything and if that song plays, she stops whatever she is doing and listens.

The show will grab your little one's attention and as he/she gets older, he/she will appreciate the messages that each episodes bring.

Here is what I think: Snook the Sloth will generally teach you that everything doesn't have to be RUSH RUSH RUSH. Take your time. Sometimes you can figure out things better that way too.

Bob Loves the ants...seems to be not the way Anteaters supposed to love them (Live and Let Live kinda guy, I guess)

I could go on but I only have 1000 characters.

BBW is #1

It's A Dull Dull World
sitonpickle6 July 2011
It isn't hard to believe It's A Big Big World is from the creators of "Bear in the Big Blue House". You got a set of characters who are puppets and a very cheap set.

The main character of the show is a sloth named Snuck. Every little kid's show must have one character who is the wise one with a soft voice while the rest of the characters are the "children" that make mistakes and learn lessons.

In this show you have Bird-Et; A really bratty and prideful bird, Two twin monkeys who of course are energetic as well as a frog, ant eater, turtle and many other okay animals. The characters stand on a level no higher or lower then the average show for kindergarten kids. Kid's probably will identify with the personalities of some of the animals.

You also can't have a clichéd kid's show without musical numbers. To the shows credit, the music is actually quite decent and enjoyable. I'd imagine kids will think so.

I acknowledge that this movie is made for children's innocent entertainment, nevertheless there is one aspect that bothers me greatly. This is a show that is all about the world around us, learning of how animals behave, what plants do and nature in general. You'd think a show like that would make an effort to make it's scenery pleasant to look at. Unfortunately, they don't.

The show is shot with a terrible green screen effect, taking place in a giant tree, inhabited by the shows characters. There isn't one second that the shot of a sloth sitting on this tree house looks convincing. Not only that, but the forest, lighting and sky are badly shot. For some reason, all the green screen scenery is bury and nothing stands out on the screen.

The show doesn't leave the least bit of an appreciation of the big world, because it doesn't show the world in an admirable way. Perhaps the low budget is the blame, however maybe making a TV show about the world wasn't a good idea after all, since your budget is so tiny.

IT's a Great Ahow for Kids!
JKBuchholz21 May 2006
I really liked this show and my 2 year old loved it! He would ask for it when the time came every day for it to be on. Unfortunately, it was cancelled in my viewing area and I have not had a response on how to purchase any items of the show. The lessons that were taught in the show were very "real" for children, the special effects made it appear like a real jungle and the songs/music were very entertaining. My son loved the characters as they were puppet-like animals that danced and sang-very entertaining all around! I/we are very sad that we are not able to see this show but we frequent the website often! We are interested in learning how to purchase stuffed animals of them and are even making this the theme for my son's 2nd Birthday Party. I highly recommend it as it is a riveting and educational show for toddlers and preschoolers!

best show EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
kls111629 July 2006
My son has watched It's a Big Big world since he entered our big world last September. He is obsessed with it! He might be crying or fussy, but the second he hears the theme song to the show he is all smiles! We watch it every single morning. I also tape every episode so Ihave it on hand and ready to go whenever I need it! I love also love the show! Snook is the best, he reminds me of a few of my old college friends! Our favorite episode is when Snook helps Madge with her migration- lots of singing and dancing!!! We're hoping for some toys to come out soon! If anyone knows where I might find a giant sloth stuffed animal, please let me know.

A Bright and Colorful Kids Show with Adult Appeal
cruisingbug25 January 2006
I didn't realize that this show is brand-new, as my baby girl is also brand-new (two months old and we just started watching). It's a Big Big World is a wonderful peek into the lives of animals of the rainforest. The main character is a sloth, but colorful monkeys, a fish, birds, a frog, an anteater, a wise tortoise and others also make appearances. I'm partial to Snook the Sloth, a gentle, easygoing role model with a Zenlike charm. My daughter is captivated by the energetic pair of monkeys. The puppetry and animation on this show is visually appealing, with its bright colors for her and realistic details for me. Social values seem to be a common theme, such as tolerance, balance, and living as part of the "spirit of the tree". Along with Jakers!, another favorite, we'll be watching this show for a long time!

Absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!
Gypsyofxanos31 July 2008
Honestly, I love this show! I'll tell you why: It's one of the best children's shows on today. My five year old son is in love with it (has been for several years), and I am, too, because it's witty, fun and wonderful.

The puppetry is amazingly done and the movement is fluid and seamless. The set (digital and otherwise) is entirely charming. The songs are so catchy that I often find myself singing along, and even humming them as I work or clean. And the praise doesn't stop there.

It doesn't condescend to children (which I appreciate for two reasons. One, it doesn't drive me bonkers to see it on, and Two, I remember being that young. And even then, I found that sort of thing insulting. My son seems to feel the same way.) Also, no one on the show has a horribly annoying voice *cough* *Barney* *cough*, everyone brings something special to the table.

And it has a great list of messages. Equality, friendship, cleaning up, caring for natural resources, listening, problem solving and scientific inquiry, all in a way that's exciting (but not frustrating or over-complicated) to children, and still enjoyable for adults. And they have bits of audience participation here and there, but respectfully done.

The sloth (the star of the show) is a bit like a surfer/philosopher, and he's a nurturing soul. My favorite character of the lot, easily.

I think it's a great show with a lot to teach and entertain young and old, alike!

Great for Young Ones
Easto-Cleveland29 December 2016
My daughter and I loved this show when she was young. Not only is it beautiful to look at, but the songs are catchy and meaningful. The puppetry is masterful and creates characters with distinct personalities. The shows also teach important concepts in a way that appeals to young children. The conflicts on the show are generally mild. Characters disagree, but they manage to work it out. The "adult" characters are there to advise the less-mature characters while encouraging them to reason for themselves. Older children and many adults may not appreciate the relatively quiet and at times slow pace of the show. However, young children really benefit from a slow pace and repetition -- even to a point that can annoy adults. I recently showed parts of the show to my 3-year-old niece on YouTube, and she was mesmerized.

The only problem was that the songs themselves were too short. When I finally found a way to download it, she wanted to listen to "Touch the Sky" (the song at the end of the show) over and over!

Very good show for the children
acetylcholinenjoyer1 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
It is shame that today most cartoons and children's shows are so despicable, vulgar and violent. That's why I say thanks for shows like this, that are clean and good for the whole family, teaching the kids important things like tolerance, and the protection and the environment.

"It's a Big Big World" maybe isn't the best show ever mad,e but it still a good option in this times, so filled with so much vulgarity and inappropriate contents in television, even in the so-called shows for kids. This show is cute and well made, and it doesn't have anything objectionable, and also teaches many good things to the kids. That's why I like it so much.

My daughter watched this very young
keefad25 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I can't say enough about this show. I have nothing but good memories of this show. My daughter is 6 years old now but 6 years ago at 6 months old she would give the biggest smile at the sloth. She absolutely LOVED him and was so intrigued by it(by it I mean the show). Now, I know what you're thinking a 6 month old can't possibly stay focused on a show. oh contra ire she absolutely did and never once lost focus.

I of course stood by her while she watched it and as the sloth showed up she smiled the biggest smile ever.

As far as i cam remember that was the only show that she watched that young, but let me tell you we own it on DVD and sometimes even at 6 years old she pulls it out to watch. It's a good show and it's educational.
