In 1987, 16 Wardle Brook Avenue in Hattersley was demolished by Manchester City Council after the council were unable to find tenants who were willing to live in the property. Myra Hindley and Ian Brady carried out two of their crimes in that house in 1964 and 1965. The Wardle Brook Avenue scenes were filmed on a housing estate in Rochdale.
The serial is the first dramatization of the notorious murders and was produced to mark the 40th anniversary of Myra Hindley and Ian Brady's trial. It was made with the support of the victims' families, and was based on two years of research.
