Now hear my out, I don't think this movie is terrible or even bad. Yes, the reason Wysteria became a princess was contrived and stupid but the conflict she goes through while she's a princess is good. Yes, the animation has some genuinely awful moments but it was also ambitious and tried new things with the animation. Yes, Spike is a jerk but he also has an interesting back story. The other new characters aren't that bad either. The breezies can be annoying but I did feel for Zipzee during a few of her scenes. Wysteria is also a great new character. Yeah, I know the songs aren't that good but the only bad one in my eyes is the one where they give Spike a bath. However, there's this thing called the SKIP BUTTON! If you can't suffer through the songs, just skip them and quit your moaning. Anyway, onto the worst aspect of this movie: the ending. Now unlike other people, I actually get what this movie was trying to teach. It was trying to say that a title shouldn't change who you are. However, the ending messed it all up. The proper way to end this would've been for Wysteria to tell everyone that being a Princess is basically nothing to her and that she was foolish to try and change herself just because of her new title. In conclusion, the haters do nothing but look at the flaws of this movie and don't even try to look past them or try to find anything good. It's like they want to hate this movie! My recommendation: Give it a chance before you bash it to smithereens.

Though it has been two years since its official release, it is easily the best film of 2008. In my humble opinion, it is the best of the "My Little Pony" series. Second only to the film classic "Last Tango in Paris" in terms of its cutting edge cinematography and intriguing and highly original plot, it stands alone as a masterpiece in regards to its careful handling of a very difficult subject. This movie has something for everybody. It is a raw and unapologetic social commentary for a generation in search of the answers to the biggest questions of our age with sing-a-longs you can have on your iPod and not be ashamed to show off. The music is inspired and wonderfully executed, and it's cinematic score was simply breathtaking. My only hope is that when I have children, they can draw from the knowledge and wisdom I have gained from watching this brilliant piece of cinema. This is the only movie I have ever recommended to all my friends and have been thanked for afterwards.

In my eighteen years on this earth, I have been able to see many movies, some of them great, some of them terrible. Only one of them, however, has been able to move me to tears of exultation and utter, boundless joy. That movie, my friends, is My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade. The My Little Pony series has always been known for its cutting-edge approach to film-making as it tackles tough issues and offers a refreshing commentary on surprisingly deep subject matter. Princess Promenade goes even further than its wonderful predecessors. This movie is the second coming of Christ. It is an orgasm for the senses. It is the word "perfect," transformed into an animated, watchable form. It is love itself. It is like an evolved form of oxygen that is so much fresher than a typical breath of fresh air. If you don't see this movie, you have never experienced life or seen color or felt a single genuine, worthwhile emotion. Life begins and ends with my pony friends at the peerless Princess Promenade.

I wasn't expecting much from a direct to video children's movie but my girlfriend really wanted to see it - she's really into kid's movies, hopefully when she hits puberty she'll grow out of it - but in this case I was pleasantly surprised. The plot it amazingly insightful without being too pretentious or condescending. If Orson Welles had made a movie about talking ponies, this is the movie he would have made. I can't recommend this movie enough. Anyone can appreciate it and it works on so many levels. The visuals are really amazing, especially considering the budget. The voice actors were all spot on. And the pacing is perfect. I was almost moved to tears by its innocent and simple beauty. I didn't want to cry in front of my girlfriend because it would have been embarrassing to cry during a pony movie, but it was just that good. Do not miss this hidden gem. If it isn't nominated for Best Animated Picture, I will be protesting The Academy Awards this year.

I was watching my two nieces at their house and they insisted on watching this movie, which they apparently owned. I figured, hey, it will save me some trouble. So I go to play the movie and am shocked to find this is not just another typical children's movie, but a modern work of art.
Right from the beginning, I found myself drawn in by the unique and refreshing character designs. Not only did the jovial mise-en-scene create a strong sense of attachment, but the story was unlike anything I had ever seen. The twists, the character interactions, it was all so heart-warming and perfect. The end of the film was an emotional climax, and one of the few times I have ever cried to a movie.
Some people do not believe any one film can ever be perfect, but My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade would certainly be as close as anything can get. It saddens me that so many people have judged this book by its cover (or should I say, film by its box art!) and simply dismissed this as being another trivial cash-in in the crowded children's film market. These people are missing out on one of the greatest stories I have ever had the chance to witness. The film's dynamic appeal to young and old audiences alike is unique and welcome. If you are looking for a piece of cinematography which is an absolute joy, The Princess Promenade is for you.

Words cannot begin to convey how truly miraculous this movie is. Despite being a published author, anything I could possibly write would ultimately prove clumsy, insufficient and defamatory to this untainted 50 minutes of sheer genius. Never in all my years did I think I might come across a work of art so awe-inspiring that praise itself would become insulting; but I thank God that I have. Embark on a journey with some of the most convoluted and interesting characters the movie, nay the entire fiction industry has provided. People have been searching for the meaning of life since the dawn of Humanity, I daresay this movie provides just about the closest thing to an answer any of us could ever hope for. All I can say is that My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade will, in every sense of the word, astound generations to come – and that too sounds feebly slanderous.

The other reviews are trying to troll you, this movie is horrible. It is genuinely hard to watch. It would be more pleasant to staple your eye lids to the ceiling. You'd get more joy out off bamboo splinters underneath your fingernails. I would be surprised if you finish this movie without losing at least 10 IQ points.from start to finish it vomits an un balanced color pallet of pink and rainbows in your face. All the characters are ether the same as the others or entirely un likable. The story has no solid structure. The moral is phoned in and makes little sense. Quite possibly the worst example of "childrens entertainment" I have ever seen. Heed my words avoid this movie as if it was the plague. watch my little pony friendship is magic instead.

In my life, Pre-Princess Promenade, I was a mess. A miserable buffoon who walked around spouting racist vulgarities, shoplifting from The Goodwill and punching random toddlers in the face. My life was empty and in desperate need of something to provide fulfillment. I was on the verge of suicide when an amazing thing happened. This movie came on and I immediately felt a surge of life shoot through my veins! I had finally found that missing piece and my life felt complete!
I took the razor away from my wrist and ran out onto the street where I began hugging everyone I could find. I grabbed an old lady and after she stopped screaming, I hugged her tight and whispered "You are special and I love you." I was overcome with a brand new positive attitude!
When the cops came I gave each of them a big kiss on the cheek and told them I understood why my face was being held to the hood of the car and that they were both really good at their job. Life had new meaning!
That night in jail I walked up to a group of ruffians and sat down. I told them their game of spades would have to wait, for I had something amazing to share with them. I told them all about this wonderful little movie called "My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade" and how it had really changed my life. I don't think many of them were quite ready for my message of hope, but I believe that I touched some hearts that night. Later on I let everybody know that I was not upset and that I thought my two new black eyes really complimented the color of my face. I was now literally seeing the world through a brand new pair of eyes!
Well, needless to say, this film affected me very deeply. It is a powerful story about what it means to really be alive. It is, without a doubt, the single greatest achievement in cinematic history and is comparable to "Citizen Kane" and "The Godfather". It will continue to change lives and live forever in the hearts and minds of those who it has already touched.
A very heartfelt thank you goes out to the amazing filmmakers! You, my friends, should be seriously considered for a Nobel Peace prize, for I believe that a few more movies of this caliber could bring an end to hunger, poverty and war. Thank you!

This disgrace of a film treats children like they are all brain dead. this is perhaps the worst example of a little girls cartoon, not only does it suck I am ashamed this is aloud to be called a film. The characters all have practically the same shallow cardboard cutout personalities. I can not put down in words how much I hate this film, and all it represents. This movie makes the hole animation industry feel stupid just by the fact someone would wast there time and money on this.you may argue "you shouldn't be so hard on it, it's just for little girls." I insist THAT IS NO EXCUSE FOR BEING HORRIBLE! Original series is okay maybe a C- for the original for what that's worth. but if you want a really good cartoon I highly recommend the cartoon my little pony friendship is magic. friendship is magic is perfect example of what a cartoon should be A+ for friendship is magic. There's a certain measure of beauty striven for by artists in this world, a dream of absolute aesthetic perfection heretofore thought unreachable by the flawed hand of humanity. This dream has just become reality. My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade has opened a doorway to a realm of staggering beauty, one that can't be explained away with simple words. To watch this film is an experience like no other. To quaff the heady brew of its majesty is to wrap yourself in a blanket of enlightenment. You don't just see its purity, you taste it. It fills you. I am not a religious man, but this film is as close to God as one can come in this wretched world of ours.
Any attempt at analysis of how the film achieves what it does is meaningless. One can certainly break it down into its component parts, though this yields more questions than answers. (1) A narrative of staggering force and clarity. (2) Simple yet elegant camera-work, comparable to the masterworks of Ozu, yet leagues beyond even his understated beauty. (3) A swirling palette of colors, always moving yet never extravagant. (4) A troupe of actors who will accept nothing less than to become these noble beasts, to cast off the shackles of their own human identities and, through their words, conjure a kind of concentrated beauty from the very aether around them. Yet this is nothing more than a simplification--a reduction of what is by definition vast and unknowable to a straightforward list of observable attributes. MLP:TPP is so much more than the sum of its parts, and must be felt to be believed.
That this film hasn't received more critical attention is a monumental tragedy. Though perhaps... perhaps the real tragedy is within ourselves. It may be that we are simply not ready to open our hearts, let the scales fall from our eyes, and embrace the only true beauty that really exists in this world: My Little Pony.

The Shameful Destruction of a Great Franchise

What happened to this great franchise? It seems as if this wonderful franchise has sold out to Hollywood. The previous films' scripts were written masterfully and up there with the greats such as "Once Upon Time in America" or "Cool Hand Luke". But this outing seems to have been written by a child and for children. The acting is equally as terrible, filled with idiotic childish catch phrases. It seems as if they were trying to sell some kids toys or something.
And nothing was believable at all. I understand that it is a fantasy movie, but the audience must be transposed into this created reality. This film falls flat in doing so. I just didn't buy into the whole flying sequences, it seems cheesy at best. And when the ponies start talking to the dragon??? I can't make that leap of faith to believe that the two species can even communicate. it's asking way too much of the audience, unless you audience is... what, under 4 years old??? WTF?
In an endeavor not to sound totally like sour grapes, i gave it 1 star because the color palette of the film was actually decent... OK, OK, it was awesome. 2 stars.

I was quite wondering about the good comments on this movie. I thought "Come on, you're kidding me. How can a "My Little Pony" flick be outstanding?!" How wrong i was... Right from the beginning, with a breath taking intro, you can't refuse this astonishing work of art. "My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade" glorious succeed the gap between child-movie and high-minded piece for adults. It's like "The Matrix" and "Citizen Kane" together: So many levels, you can't touch just by first time watching. In the end, i almost cried my eyes out of tears, the most bittersweet end since "Life Is Beautiful". Don't let you misguide by the - i admit - kitschy cover. It's so much more...you can't even compare it with the movies from Studio Ghibli. Masterpiece!

Never before has such a touching, heartwarming film succeeded so well as both a captivating family film and an epic adventure. It finds its way into the hearts of people from all walks of life and fills their soul with happiness and joy. The dialogue is spot on and surprisingly edgy for such a film - as though the writers of The Shield began writing for talking ponies. Yet it fits perfectly. You can almost imagine such words coming from the mouths of real ponies.
The cinematography was excellent. Scenic landscapes and a deep focus allow the viewer to take in the breadth and beauty of the setting and drives us closer into the Ponies' world.
The graphic sex scene was also masterfully executed, with the camera moving over our copulating couple with smooth grace and majesty as their bodies ripple and throb before us. Don't feel dirty if this scene arouses you, you are feeling exactly what the director, in what will be his most memorable credit, wants us to feel. Not since Spielberg has such a person been able to inspire such a swell of emotion in his audience members through the manipulation of two dimensional imagery.

I was looking for a children's movie to watch with my 4 year old daughter, had no expectations whatsoever. It simply blew me away. The characters were captivating and the story compact, touching and sweet. I am not ashamed to say I loved this movie. This is the kind of show that should be in television in place of the overtly violent, grim-dark series they usually show. If this movie ever got to the silver screen I wouldn't hesitate to go see it again and again, with or without my daughter.
To all parents looking for light hearted and emotional adventure to share with your children, this is it.

My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade was, is, and will be the film that inspires generations of filmmakers to build upon its benchmark of cinematic craftsmanship. There is neither nothing extra, nor nothing missing in this masterpiece. It's as if the director looked straight into my soul, and showed me the very essence of what I'm made of.
This film made me want to have children, so I could share it with them. I asked my downstairs neighbour if I can borrow his children for an afternoon so we can watch My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade together, but he looked at me kind of funny, so I told him that I was only joking. But I wasn't.

A Cerebral, Painfully Honest Piece of Cinematic Art

William Faulkner once said, "The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life."
When sitting down to watch "My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade", I was forced to reflect upon Faulkner's quote. This movie, which almost does not deserve such a basic term - as if to imply that it could and should be compared with other such "movies" - involves the disruption of flower parade with the awakening of a 1,000-year-old dragon.
However, the plot is merely the MacGuffin for the emotional truths that reveal themselves in 50 rapturous minutes.
"The Princess Promenade" shows the typical Victor Dal Chele touches. The lyrical camera-work, complex story lines and ambitious themes immediately remind us of "Transformers: Go-Bots" and "RoboCop: Alpha Commando", not to mention his predecessor "My Little Pony: A Very Minty Christmas". However, his previous work now feels like mere preparation for this, his masterwork.
Earlier reviews have compared this film to the work of Ozu. Actually, the influence of a number of masters is evident here. He combines the artistic editing of Eisenstein, the visual innovation of Welles, the provocation of Fassbinder, the existential philosophies of Godard, and the frenetic surrealism of Luis Buñuel. These elements are merely jumping off points, though, for a unique style that future film scholars will refer to as "Dal Chele-ism".
But as any film-goer will tell you, style only goes so far. The reason "The Princess Promenade" deserves its place next to "Grand Illusion", "La Dolce Vita" and "Rashomon" is the emotional impact it achieves.
The story starts off light enough, making the viewer feel at ease. It is funny, often times hilarious. Then, it is revealed that the laughs are masking a deeper, more tragic subtext, and the emotional weight of this revelation induces tears in all who watch.
The third act is truly revelatory. I found myself first hating, and then embracing, humanity. And when I had unleashed all of my emotion at the world and society around me, the movie forced me to look within myself. It revealed that I, like everyone else, was ultimately an empty vessel, full of hope and longing but ultimately achieving nothing.
As I was ready to hang my hat, and admit defeat at this monster of a film, its denouement landed with a message of hope that would have been manipulative had the previous 47 minutes not laid the groundwork for this, its most logical resolution. As the last image faded, I felt hopeful for myself as a human being and for humanity as a whole.
And as the final credits rolled, I wept. I wept not only for the ponies and their plight with the dragon and the flower parade. I wept for myself, as I had not felt such an emotional charge from a work of art. I wept for the cinema, as a new standard has now been established in visual storytelling. I wept for Victor Dal Chele, who now stands tall as the premiere voice of our generation. And most of all, I wept for the world, which will never be able to match the painful honesty, blistering imagination and unending beneficence that Mr. Dal Chele has presented in this, surely the finest film of our generation.

Even before seeing this sample of art, I was wooed by the loving poster and box artwork, as well as the deep story behind the My Little Pony franchise. Finally beholding this film is like taking these sentient pieces of joy and injecting them directly into my soul, where they begin to breathe of their own will. The experience is such that one does not even realize that oneself is in Heaven; one is simply there, to bask in true existence. I was taken on a journey from which no being can return untouched. I will forever be humbled by the shining light of this revelation, the beauty of which I cannot even begin to describe. Breathe on, My Little Pony. Breathe on.

Have you ever been so surprised that you literally cannot believe what your eyes and ears are telling you? Have you ever seen something so unexpected that it fundamentally re-aligned your perception of reality? Have you ever seen something so singular and distinctive that it seemed reasonable to assume that it came from another dimension or plane of existence? Well, if you haven't.... you NEED to see "My Little Pony: The Promenade Princess." Do not deny yourself an experience as rich as scaling Everest, or contemplating the elegant simplicity of Euclid's proof on the infinitude of prime numbers... It, quite possibly, is the first truly great masterpiece of the new millennium.

After reviewing the reviews in the review section, I have decided to put my words where my mouth is (is that the right saying?who knows) and give it a go, this film is what we as a group of equestrian philanthropists have been waiting for, to say this is magical would be the repetition of the views of many, as we say in Glasgow, it is 'pure toilet'. I speak for the group of 20 of us who have now watched this movie three times together before we go to our dance competitions in the Burrell room, and I mean it when I say, crash bang wallop, what a video! Whether you are old, young, ugly, a hand model or even trans-gender, you will love this movie, give it a chance, you will not regret it.

Once in a lifetime an event happens that is so monumental words can't describe it. "The princess promenade" is that event.
After viewing it my life was changed forever. All that was old became new again, seen through the eyes of a child. I'm tempted to compare it to the condition "Synthesia" where the brain generates additional stimulus, but this is far more esoteric.
There simply are no words in this language or any other to describe the impact of this film. "Brilliant" does not do it justice. "Justice" is not brilliant enough. "Supercalifragalisticexpialidocious" barely scratches the surface.
This movie has ruined all other movies that come after it, for none can achieve the level of innate perfection of the Princess Promenade. Love it. Treasure it. Experience it.
Be it.

My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade is without a doubt the greatest film I've ever seen, and it has changed my life forever.
Princess Promenade has raised the bar even higher on what films about ponies can do! The film left me a quivering and exhausted waste of a man. Every brain cell in my head had been worked and reworked into over-time dissecting apart and digesting the multi-layered and daring plot line. My emotions were all spent. All of them. Princess Promenade showed me what a film could do. Joy, loss, love, anger... This movie had it all.
After the film's ultimate climatic conclusion, I was in a completely comatose state. I awoke, emaciated and unable to move, in a puddle of my own waste. The scent off human excrement hung heavy in the air for days, and I was powerless to move or yell for help. But I didn't care. All I was capable of doing was soiling myself and reflecting upon the staggering cinematic masterpiece, which was now stuck on the DVD title screen repeating the film's wonderful main theme on a beautiful and perfect loop, like the flawless circadian rhythm of the ocean's tides.
My upstairs neighbors eventually called plumbers, concerned about a possible sewage leak. The plumbers found me whimpering and writhing on the floor. They contemplating putting me out of my misery with any one of their heavy bludgeoning tools for a few solid hours, before thinking to call an ambulance instead.
It took me a full two weeks to recuperate and gain control of my cognitive functions and remember my name or generally process any thought that wasn't pony-related in nature. It was many months before I was even able to speak again. But when I was finally able to talk once more, all I could say was "wow. What a movie!" My nurse was a little shocked to hear me talk at first, but she smiled warmly and told me I was the seventh patient that year admitted to the hospital as a result of what she affectionately referred to as "The Princess Promenade Syndrome" (or TPP Syndrome for short).
Even though I still haven't regained control of my bowels completely, I have absolutely no regrets. Everyone needs to see the movie. 10 stars.
My only advice would be to play it smart and wear a diaper. Just in case :)

It details, without sentiment or manipulation, how parents react when a school bus crash takes the lives of almost every child in their small town.
The film is no simple-minded child's tale. The Princess Promenade visits the impossible contradictions of bereavement with clear-eyed compassion.
Not many filmmakers could make that trip. Victor Dal Chele navigates it with skill.
I cannot recommend this film highly enough. Watch it with a loved one, and prepare to have your lives changed and your bond strengthened forever. The Princess Promenade saved my marriage.

I still have difficulty believing that a cartoon, much less a catchily titled "family" one, could have obliterated so many of my oft-cherished ideals and deep seated beliefs, while simultaneously effortlessly and cleanly non-paradoxically validating and augmenting the deepest yearnings of my soul. Without giving too much away, "My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade" begins as a seemingly "day in the life of" style animated docu-drama chronicling the humble life of what is, in the beginning, an "ordinary" pony (albeit one that talks).. To give any more away, or to even attempt to prepare one for, let alone complement, this epic achievement with the comparative flummery of mere literary description would be an exercise in supreme futility, at best. Though without seeing the movie, I would argue that _any_ contextual appreciation of the nature of that statement is simply impossible. You really just _have_ to see it. This reality shattering, yet undeniably life affirming masterpiece is logically the posthumous pinnacle of Søren Kierkegaard's life work. I'm still reeling!

A friend suggested I watch My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade and, I must admit, I was skeptical. My skepticism quickly dissolved in the film's first minutes as I was immediately drawn into the complex and intricate plot. At once stunning and subtle, the artistry accentuates the character development of each pony. While the entire cast explored the depths of their characters, I was particularly impressed with Janyse Jaud's role as Pinky Pie, a character with a harsh exterior hiding a sensitive and bruised soul.
The musical numbers are clearly an homage to the great choreographer and director, Hermes Pan, while the score is reminiscent of the early works of Hector Berlioz.
I walked away from this film with a restored sense of panglossianism, knowing that whatever darkness exists in the world, My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade will shine like a beacon of hope. It serves as the purist example of cinematic artistry and its success will not soon be rivaled.

While I have been known to give movies 10/10 in the past, this is far and away the most deserved of perfection. My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade (hitherto MLP:TPP) is the definitive animation. Nay, the definitive motion picture experience. One does not so much watch the movie, as have it eek into one's very soul. The haunting score and the masterful artwork which has been put onto celluloid is without peer. The acting is... Phenomenal. I have never seen such a brilliant cast, and all unknowns! How this movie did not sweep the Academy Awards is a tragedy. It deserves so much acclaim. Its bold story, a thought-provoking analysis of the MLP mythos, encapsulates what storytelling should be. There have been many blockbusters released in the past few years, none of which have reached the level of depth that MLP:TPP has attained. I am crying now as I remember it. It just brought me to my barest emotions. Joy, terror, adulation and heartache, but with a finale which evoked pure and utter love. I love this movie. I can honestly attest that this is the best movie ever made. Thank you and good day.
