Not as good as Most Haunted
shugaron31611 March 2006
Nowhere's near it,I'm sorry to say. The Travel Channel(US) finally aired this show for the first time last night, and I was not impressed, tho maybe one show isn't enough to give an opinion. The whole thing felt rushed, the readings Derek was giving seemed to be taken word for word from some of his Most Haunted episodes, and there was no feeling of anticipation like MH. The 2 sidekicks came off as bargain basement Yvette Fielding and Jason Karl wannabes, and whose idea was it for that idiotic truck? I'm afraid Derek's credibility has taken a serious hit, since Ciaran O'Keefe's article in the Mirror really blew the lid off of Most Haunted, tho that doesn't seem to have hurt the show any.

Ghostly viewing

Warning: Spoilers
Without a doubt, Derek Acorah's Ghost Towns has brought the ghoulish tales back to the people. Investigating the everyday places of local people, Derek attempts to put names to the shadowy figures, the women in white and the lurking spirits reported by those who see them all the time.

Aided by Daniella Westbrook and (might I say) the gorgeous Angus Purden, Derek and the team travel round in a shiny truck hunting for ghosts. With one series and a live show behind them, the show is now into its second series and has already become cult viewing for many, including this avid viewer.

Channeling spirits, holding séances and knocking on strangers doors for a late night "Doorstep Divination" are all in a days, or should that be nights, work for Mr Acorah. Although many may criticise Derek's credibility and the comparisons between this show and Most Haunted, this show makes for a great hours worth of television.

Whether you be a sceptic or believer, Derek Acorah's Ghost Towns has everything for everyone. Whether you take it for face value or for entertainment, I see no reason why this show wont see an impressive run and let us see where it will lead. Will they prove the existence of ghosts? Only time will tell.

Better than Most Haunted!

I enjoyed this more than Most Haunted, by far. Most Haunted is so full of pathetic scare tactics that much of the episode is wasted waiting for something to happen that never does. The most interesting part of the show is watching Derek Acorah tell the stories of the ghosts who inhabit the homes, to see him communicate with "Sam," his guide and even occasionally become possessed by the spirit.

In "Ghost Towns," we get a number of these exciting stories packed into one episode, making it much more interesting and engaging than Most Haunted. I definitely recommend it and would welcome the chance to see new episodes.

Ghost Towns: Not For Entertainment Only

Derek Acorah, self-proclaimed "Spiritualist Medium" from the UK's hit show Most Haunted, get's his chance at heading his own show and it fails miserably. Any hyper-charm Derek displayed on Most Haunted now comes across as annoying. His tricks are more obvious as his readings are fed to him via video-tapings by his victims in a monstrous motor home beforehand. I have no idea whether Mr. Acorah has any psychic abilities, but his readings are unconvincing and seemingly preconceived.

As far as the presenters Angus and Daniella are concerned, they are simply mindless eye-candy. Daniella's face seems stitched up tighter than a drum and her outfits are ridiculous! Angus a so-called skeptic, seems to be a little girl and the most frightened. The two of them are simply Derek's robot cheerleaders.

I have watched three episodes now and I give up. If you're a fan of Most Haunted and paranormal shows, don't waste your time on Ghost Towns.

Better Than Most Haunted

If you are a Most Haunted fan or even an avid Derek fan then 'Ghost Towns' is right up your street. The format is quite mixed ranging from random doorstep readings to organised visits to certain properties (I guess these are pre-arranged by the team meeting up with the public during the day at the 'Ghost Towns' truck).

Derek certainly seems to be getting possessed a lot more compared to 'Most Haunted', Mmmmmm I wonder if this is because he wants to show the public more by letting go a bit or if its for a different reason.

I have only seen up to Episode 3 and already cannot wait for the next one to be aired. I am a sceptic that wants to be proved wrong and this show certainly keeps me interested, hopefully one day Derek will have me believing, but until 100% proof comes my way I will have to keep watching in anticipation.
