A medium praised for its diversity and multifaceted appeal, anime owes much of its popularity to just how much variety of stories it offers to experience. From high-octane action flicks to tender romantic comedies to bone-chilling thrillers, close to every thinkable genre is represented in the medium, with no shortage of unique crossovers and genre-bending examples. However, aside from familiar groupings by theme and genre, anime also emphasizes another prominent classification - demographics. When first discovering the medium, new anime fans soon learn of the major anime demographics - shonen, seinen, shojo, and josei - which help distinguish series based on target age group and gender. However, out of the four, one stands out as the most overlooked and commonly misunderstood in the anime mainstream - josei.
Josei, literally translated to “woman,” is a manga demographic aimed at adult women, in contrast to shojo, which targets younger female audiences. Just...

Adult anime fans may have a hard time finding series that fit their needs. The world of anime is incredibly vast, covering stories from a variety of genres. From romance to action, and even sci-fi, there's an anime series for every type of fan. However, for older fans of the expressive animation medium, it can sometimes be hard to find characters to relate to their own lives.
Many popular titles focus on young protagonists, often featuring high school students as the main characters. While there's nothing wrong with these titles, it's also nice to see someone more like yourself reflected on the screen. Still, there are plenty of options for the adult anime fan wanting a break from high school anime, looking for an emotional story, or simply wanting to laugh at the situations that every adult finds themselves in.

In anime, it tends to be a big, defining experience whenever a character falls in love for the first time. Some characters yearn to be swept away by a dramatic romance, like one of the deuteragonists in Nana. Others are terrified at the aspect of vulnerability, like Maid-Sama!'s Misaki. Shojo and josei anime tend to have the most storylines about first love, some of which have stuck with audiences for decades.
Characters learn a lot about themselves and other people through their first relationship, for both better and for worse. Love that goes unrequited can be particularly painful, especially for young individuals. Whether or not someone's first love results in wedding bells or a tearful breakup, many can relate to these humble love stories.

Manga artist Chica Umino is primarily known for her recent coming-of-age series March Comes in Like a Lion. However, before this title, Umino made a name for herself with the romance series Honey and Clover.
Honey and Clover centers on a group of friends that attend a performing and visual arts university. They try to navigate love, friendships and careers in an ever-changing society. From 2005 to 2006, Honey and Clover stood as an iconic romance anime alongside Nana and Paradise Kiss, but even though Honey and Clover is a classic among shojo and josei enthusiasts, it has been overlooked in the romance genre in recent years. Even so, the series helped paved the way for further college romance and josei works.

Today is a day for news on live-action anime adaptations it seems. We received our first trailer for the live-action "Gatchaman" aka "Battle of the Planets" earlier today and now we have a new report that a live-action "Lupin III" film is being developed with a few leads already cast. Shun Oguri (Detective Conan) has been pegged for the lead role of Arsène Lupin III, a fictional character that series mangaka Kazuhiko Katō (pen name Monkey Punch...how cool is that?) created back in 1967 as the grandson of Maurice Leblanc's Arsène Lupin. Sho Sakurai (Honey and Clover) will portray the sure-shot Daisuke Jigen while Satoshi Tsumabuki (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift) has reportedly been cast as master swordsman, Goemon Ishikawa. According to Japanese sources, the film is scheduled to begin shooting this fall with a release set for March 2014. But the real question...

It comes as little surprise Life Is Wonderful helmer Lu Hong was an assistant director on popular idol drama Honey and Clover. Her début feature betrays the same preoccupation with picture-postcard cinematography, whimsical artistic flourishes and tidy life lessons which don't really amount to much. At the same time, it is gently, whimsically pretty, means well and is so lovingly put together it's an undeniably charming diversion, if a somewhat inconsequential one.
The storybook opening sequence introduces us to Chi Ting, a little girl whose parents have apparently abandoned her in the port city of Kaohsiung to live with her grandmother (veteran Taiwanese actress Lu Yi Ching). Chi Ting is terrified of the feisty old lady, who works as a seer and exorcist, setting aside a regular portion of her earnings as a contribution to the mysterious Life Of Never End Co. (hence the alternative English title for the film...
