Brazil’s Theatrical Market Gradually Recovers, but Still Way Below 2019
Image
After plunging during the pandemic, Brazil’s theatrical market has been recovering since 2021, but the pace of the recovery has been hampered this year by 2023’s Hollywood double strike.

Total ticket sales in the country sharply decreased from 173 million in 2019 to just 39 million in 2020, according to Brazil’s cinema agency Ancine. Sales then increased significantly year by year and reached 114 million in 2023, giving the impression that a full recovery to the pre-pandemic level was soon to be achieved.

But the lack of a regular offer of U.S. blockbusters, a reflection of the Hollywood double strike, slowed the growth pace. Total ticket sales amounted to 91 million from Jan. to Sept. 25 this year, up just 1.6% from the same period in 2023. Accumulated B.O. in the period totalled 1.8 billion reais ($331 million), up just 1.1% from last year.

“The suspension of productions, closure of cinemas and calendar changes due to the pandemic led the...

Exhibitors in Brazil Step Up Demand for Local Films With Walter Salles’ ‘I’m Still Here,’ ‘Noah’s Ark’ Among Potential Hits
Image
There is a tremendous demand for Brazilian features at domestic cinemas right now due to a combination of recently established federal government quotas for local pics and the low supply of U.S. blockbusters resulting from last year’s Hollywood strikes, said participants of this year’s Expocine, Latin America’s largest theatrical distribution-based industry event held in Sao Paulo.

A presidential decree set the quotas for 2024. Exhibitors with more than 200 screens must reserve 16% of their screenings for Brazilian pics. The percentage is lower for smaller exhibitors, dropping to 7.5% for exhibitors with just one screen.

The decree also establishes a 50% limit of occupation for a single pic – usually a U.S. blockbuster – in an exhibitor’s circuit. If an exhibitor chooses to screen a blockbuster in more than half of their screening sessions, it must compensate within the year with screenings of local pics above the quota.

Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Sherry Cola and More Urge for Improved LGBTQ Representation in Hollywood: We’re ‘Multidimensional, and We Have Something to Say’
Image
“Loot” and “Pose” star Michaela Jaé Rodriguez says while growing up, the Logo dramedy series “Noah’s Arc,” which followed the lives and relationships of four gay men in Los Angeles, was one of the first shows she saw that made her feel represented.

“There were so many people of color on that show,” Rodriguez told Variety. “They did highlight a lot of trans women. It wasn’t as prominent, but the girls were there. I saw a whole encompassing story around all of the Lgbtqia+ community in that show and it resonated with me, it still resonates with me today.”

Rodriguez was honored with the Vanguard Award Friday night at the Critics Choice Association’s inaugural Celebration of LGBTQ+ Cinema & Television in Los Angeles. The celebration honored achievements from LGBTQ+ creators and talent within the entertainment industry, both in front of and behind the camera.

“I hope that I can...

While Grieving the Loss of Participant, We Should Celebrate the World It Made Possible (Opinion)
Image
With a mission wholly unique at the time, make money while inspiring social change through entertainment, Participant Media managed to rewrite the rules of Hollywood during its all too short 20-year run. The studio singlehandedly proved to the world that you can produce unbelievably great films that have an impact, and audiences will go see them. Most studios and filmmakers working today owe a debt of gratitude to Jeff Skoll and his team of visionaries. That’s why the announcement that the studio will be shutting its doors felt like a gut punch, especially at a time when Hollywood is feeling a bit limp and lifeless.

Amidst the backdrop of faltering democracies, news and information channels that appear polarized, a marathon pandemic, and the proliferation of streaming, entertainment media still stands king as a unifier, capable of bringing together broad swathes of audiences. So, while Participant’s award-winning documentary “He...

Patrik-Ian Polk on ‘P-Valley’ Success, Return of ‘Noah’s Arc’ and Telling Gay Black Stories: “The Gay Is Here and It’s Going to Get Gayer”
Image
When Oscar-nominated director Lee Daniels thinks of those who inspired him, Patrik-Ian Polk easily comes to mind.

Known for telling groundbreaking stories centered on Black gay life — including the independent film Punks, which premiered at Sundance in 2000, and Noah’s Arc, which ran on Logo TV for two seasons from 2005-06 — Polk is a creative force who has chronicled (and continues to chronicle) the lives of underrepresented people while championing diversity way before “Dei” became a buzz term.

“[Polk] was way ahead of the curve, and he took the bullets for all of us when it just wasn’t accepted to do what he was doing,” Daniels, 63, says of Polk, 49. “His bravery is what I ran with in my career. I learned from Patrik that I wasn’t going to take no for an answer. When I say he really has inspired me — he’s a mentor.”

Polk has been a bold...

Logo’s Trailblazing Gay Soap ‘Noah’s Arc’ Is Being Revived, Says Show Creator
Image
“Noah’s Arc,” the two-season Logo dramedy about four gay friends navigating the highs and lows of Los Angeles, is planning its return, according to the show’s creator — but not on the pioneering cable network where it first ran.

While accepting an award at the SpeakOut I Am Awards, “Noah’s Arc” creator Patrik-Ian Polk said, “I’m very happy to confirm that there is indeed more ‘Noah’s Arc’ coming.”

Gayemagazine.com has a video of Polk’s statements at the event.

The revival was also confirmed by Darryl Stephens, who played the titular Noah on the series, in a since-deleted tweet that TheWrap captured.

“[In] case you haven’t already heard… there’s a movie and it’s coming soon,” Stephens tweeted, posting a meme of Tiffany Pollard with the “Noah’s Arc” logo on top as well as an image of MTV’s logo. Stephens’ tweet was the first indication that...

What's Coming to Paramount+ in April 2023: 'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,' 'Fatal Attraction,' 'Yonder'
Image
The Pink Ladies of “Grease,” the most colorful Rydell High students, are back on April 6 on Paramount+. However, this won’t be the same collection of young women from the original film — or even its cult classic sequel. This round, we see how the popular clique got its start. The girls now have a show of their own: “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,” a salute to 1950s teens who refuse to conform to conventional standards. The new musical series shows us Rydell High before Sandy and Danny start strutting down the halls. The show stars Marisa Davila, Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Ari Notartomaso, and Tricia Fukuhara.

Watch the “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” trailer:

Paramount+ is also producing an original series “Fatal Attraction,” based on the 1980s hit thriller. The TV version refocuses the lens, exploring a modern approach to women, infidelity, personality disorders, and coercive control. It’s...

Rip Logo: Why Won’t Paramount Admit Its LGBTQ Brand Is Dead?
Image
Paramount has all but given up on Logo, a once-groundbreaking experiment in commercial media for LGBTQ audiences, insiders told TheWrap, confirming something that’s been obvious to anyone who bothered to tune into the creatively moribund cable channel.

It’s been a slow death, starting with the loss of the channel’s signature show, “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” first to sister channel VH1 in 2017, then this year to MTV. A “federation” of websites has faded away, with the leading NewNowNext property redirected to logotv.com. The Logo brand didn’t make the jump to Paramount+, though a handful of Logo-born shows like the “Drag Race: All Stars” spin-offs now stream there.

The channel’s once-robust push for original programming ceased ages ago and layoffs have left Paramount’s LGBTQ channel gutted, with “just about no full-time employees,” one insider told TheWrap and two other individuals with knowledge confirmed.

Why TikTok Star Addison Rae Is ‘Nervous’ About Acting Debut in ‘She’s All That’ Remake
Image
Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety.”

Addison Rae, whose social media fan base already has 123.2 million followers, is making her acting debut in the upcoming remake of 1990s rom-com “She’s All That”— but she insists she’s not taking her big-screen endeavor for granted. The TikTok star worked with an acting coach ahead of shooting the movie, which has been renamed “He’s All That” because of the gender swaps of the main characters. “I was taking [acting] classes probably seven days a week before the film started and [spending] like hours and hours a day doing script analysis,” she told me at the MTV Movie & TV Awards. “I definitely made sure to take it seriously.” In the film Rae plays a popular high schooler who befriends a nerd (“Cobra Kai” star Tanner Buchanan) to give him a makeover for the prom. “I’m a little nervous but I did my...

Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart in Get Hard (2015)
Weekend Report: Moviegoers Go 'Home,' 'Get Hard'
Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart in Get Hard (2015)
DreamWorks Animation's Home (2015) was a huge hit with family moviegoers this weekend, taking first place with an excellent $52.1 million. Will Ferrell/Kevin Hart comedy Get Hard also put up strong numbers in second place, while indie horror movie It Follows did decent business in its nationwide expansion.Among recent family-friendly movies, Home's $52.1 million debut is in the same ballpark as Big Hero 6 ($56.2 million) and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water ($55.4 million). It also ranks as one of the top non-sequel movies ever for DreamWorks, behind Kung Fu Panda ($60.2 million) and Monsters Vs. Aliens ($59.3 million). In fact, it's the biggest debut for a DreamWorks movie since its distribution deal began with 20th Century Fox in early 2013; that includes How to Train Your Dragon 2, which opened to $49.5 million last June.If Home follows the same pattern as Monsters vs. Aliens and Mr. Peabody & Sherman, it will finish with around $180 million.

Party Down South (2014)
'Party Down South' producer talks 'Jersey Shore,' 'Bachelor'
Party Down South (2014)
If you've never heard the name SallyAnn Salsano, you most certainly know the shows she's produced. She's been a showrunner on "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette," and she's also the brains behind MTV's highest-rated series, "Jersey Shore." The Long Island native now has a very different kind of success in "Party Down South," which has its season finale tonight (Thurs. March 20 at 10:00 p.m. Et on Cmt). The highest-rated show in the network's history, "Party Down South" follows a group of young, wild Southerners as they get drunk and get busy. I talked to Salsano, who is just as uncensored and fun as you'd expect someone willing to deal with pre-baby Snooki to be, about the show, her secrets to success, and what she's watching now (set your DVRs!).   There's a lot of reality TV on right now that just isn't clicking, despite seeming to fulfill all the requirements (wacky characters,...

Russell Crowe's Noah buoys an unsinkable career arc
He goes forth; he multiplies. Russell Crowe's latest choice of role is divinely inspired – and further lands him in the footsteps of Hollywood greats such as Heston, Burton and Flynn

Reading on mobile? Click to view

Whether because of deep personal ambition or a sense of having come to American cinema as an outsider, the New Zealand-born Russell Crowe's role choices have often suggested a desire to belong to great Hollywood traditions.

Gladiator looked back to historical blockbusters such as Cleopatra and Ben-Hur, Cinderella Man joined the line of boxing movies that includes Raging Bull, and Robin Hood directly overlapped with one of the signature performances of an earlier leading man from the Antipodes, Errol Flynn. Even Crowe's recent cameo in Man of Steel – as Superman's dad – happened to take on a part formerly played by a cinematic legend, Marlon Brando.

And now the history man seems to be at it again.

Good morning, Brewbies! Welcome to Monday! Trish Bendix is taking a much deserved vacation to celebrate her birthday, so wish her a happy one in the comments, and she'll be back with you tomorrow!

ABC Family has released a couple of previews from the winter premiere of Pretty Little Liars— hurry up, January 8th — and boy, is it good to see our girls together again.

Now, bring on the Paige McCullers.

Last Thursday, Liz Carmouche became the first openly gay lady to join the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Despite the fact that she worried she might come up against some homophobia in the sport, she told Sports Illustrated that she was going to remain true to herself and her sexuality: "There's no amount of money that's going to make me go back in the closet." The 28-year-old former marine, who served in Iraq during "Don't Ask,...

Logo offers this sneak peak at the season finale, which is set to air Dec. 1, showing Darryl Stephens ("Noah's Arc") in a wet, passionate embrace with Danny Roberts (best known for his stint on "The Real World -- New Orleans.")

The show, which "tells the story of a diverse group of friends, all at crossroads in their lives," is also the first series funded in part via Kickstarter to receive domestic and international distribution.

Nicki Minaj
Watch: Nicki Minaj's 'Freedom' breaks out of black and white
Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj's does good work repeating her own lyrics back to herself in "Freedom," but in the video she's rocking looks we've never seen before. The clip starts out in black and white, and transitions into color (get it? Freedom from the confines of black and white? Or something? Anyway) as Minaj poses elegantly against Noah's Arc to mansion banisters to modern sculpture. It's the rapper-singer through the ages, an eternal beauty proudly hocking her wares from Macy's. One repeating motif in this epic is Minaj's inability to quit touching her hair. Her many wigs are no match for wandering fingertips,...

The 9 Most Unintentionally Scary Movies
It's happened to all of us: you go to a movie expecting a thoughtful drama or lighthearted romp. No one warned you — it was all a sick trick to expose you to a vision as bloodcurdling as any "Saw" sequel.

Two hours later, you stumble into the lobby, unsure whether it's tears or your last meal welling up. Maybe it was a disturbing truth exposed in the film that did it. Or maybe the line between surrealist daydream and psychotic nightmare was inadvertently crossed. In honor of Halloween, here's our list of top 9 movies that failed to warn us in the commercials that they'd scar us for life.

9. 'Kids' (1995)

Horror Genre: The "Kids Today Are Out of Control!" grimy drama

Not to be confused with the adorable documentary "Babies" (2010), "Kids" tells the story of Telly, a teenage kleptomaniac who spends his free time -- when he's not stealing or taking...

TV on Tap: "Dtla" Debuts Tonight, The CW's Mary Queen of Scots Teen Drama and Is "Happy Endings" the New "Friends" or "Seinfeld"?

News

Expect to see more of Emily's classmate from the vengeance dojo. Barry Sloane has been promoted to a series regular on Revenge with the potential to return in a potential third season.

CBS has ordered a full season of Vegas and Elementary, both shows I liked but haven't had time to keep watching.

Er. Wow. You know Jeremy Davies' odd haircut at the Emmys? The one we thought was an expression of his character's strangeness until he stepped onto the Emmy stage? It turns out he showed up on the set of Justified with that haircut and they decided to use it.

While I agree the characters on Happy Endings are pretty terrible people, that makes senes if you don't think of it as a Friends clone but rather as the successor to Seinfeld. Bad as the He gang might be,...

Darryl Stephens on Frank Ocean, the "Noah's Arc" Typecasting Trap and New Series "Dtla"
A group of friends dealing with life and love…blending elements of both comedy and drama…set in Los Angeles…airing on Logo…and starring Darryl Stephens.

Based on that description, you might think the show we’re talking about is Noah’s Arc, the series that aired on Logo from 2005-2006 and then wrapped up in a big screen movie in 2008. However, this is 2012 and we’re talking about the new series, Dtla. Created by Larry Kennar (The L Word), the show premieres this week on Logo. Compared to Noah's Arc, it's arguably a more mature take on relationships, family, love and careers as seen through the eyes of a group of twenty-to-thirty-something friends.

And, yes, Darryl Stephens leads the cast as Dtla’s Lenny but, as he told AfterElton last week during a sit-down in West Hollywood, this isn’t a continuation of the role that made him famous.

Top 100 Greatest Gay Movies
Brace yourselves. This list of the Top 100 Greatest Gay Movies is probably going to generate some howls of protest thanks to a rather major upset in the rankings. Frankly, one that surprised the hell out of us here at AfterElton.

But before we get to that, an introduction. A few weeks ago we asked AfterElton readers to submit up to ten of their favorite films by write-in vote. We conducted a similar poll several years ago, but a lot has happened culturally since then, and a number of worthy movies of gay interest have been released. We wanted to see how your list of favorites had changed.

We also wanted to expand our list to 100 from the top 50 we had done previously. We figured there were finally enough quality gay films to justify the expansion. And we wanted to break out gay documentaries onto their own list (You'll find the...

Morning Meme: Trevor Donovan Will Return to "90210," The Entire Cast Will Return to "Glee," and Anderson Cooper: Day Two
I invite everyone to start off the day the way I do every morning. With a Happy Ending.

There's good news and there's bad news. The good news is that Ed had his electricity restored last night, and will resume his magical Meme powers tomorrow. The bad news is that our leader Dennis is still without, and our thoughts go to him and the hundreds of thousands who are still trying to cope.

Please join me at 1:00 Pm Et for a Days Of Our Lives Liveblog. For technical reasons, we're trying something a little different today. Hopefully it won't blow up in our faces, but if it does, that could be fun, too!

A programming note: Tomorrow is a holiday in the U.S., and Ae will be shut down with the exception of a Meme and a Liveblog. Join us back on Thursday for a full schedule! Oh,...

Snuffed Out, Too: More TV Series That Were Gone Too Soon
Last month, as the fate of ABC's Gcb hung in the balance, we were worried it would become a member of the "Gone Too Soon" club, TV shows that were snuffed out before they had a chance to flourish, or at least before we had a chance to grow tired of them.

Sadly, Gcb has gone to that big Upn in the sky, where it can run happily in the meadow with the likes of Firefly, Pushing Daisies, and Manimal.

While we mourn Gcb's loss, let's take a look at more shows that were ended too quickly. They were unappreciated at the the time, but they were either too good or too ... interesting ... not to have been offered the opportunity to flourish. Or flame out. Which is just as good.

Tina Mabry: The Preponderance of Flatscreen TVs Doesn't Mean Lgbt Characters of Color Have to Flatline
Anna Paquin, Ryan Kwanten, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Nelsan Ellis, and Rutina Wesley in True Blood (2008)
We're in an era where everything is smaller, sleeker, and so thin we barely know we have certain devices in our pockets. Trust me when I say I've jumped on the flat and thin electronic bandwagon; for heaven's sake, I'm writing this on an iPad. Although I like a flatscreen as much as the next person, I'm not drawn to thin, copycat, stereotypical characters that often grace flatscreen televisions on a weekly basis.

Noting the recent controversy involving the upcoming ABC comedy Work It, I felt it was worth taking an in-depth look at the responsibility we have as filmmakers when showcasing our work on TV. GLAAD and the Human Rights Campaign claim the upcoming cross-dressing comedy "reinforces false and damaging stereotypes about transgender people" and have scheduled a meeting with high-level executives at the network. As a filmmaker, I personally strive to be mindful of the effects our stories...

Awards Daily Sasha thinks this has been a weak year for cinema -- I'm guessing because of the lack of consensus on a single masterpiece. I'd say the opposite. I can't get over how good this year is. It's so exciting to be looking at an awards season that might not have a frontrunner. Consensus makes it boring. Bring on the passionate discussion of what is "Best" please!

"Ringer" SnapCap: "Stay Still, Junkie!"
Hi, everyone - Brent here, back for the third week to recap the twisty new CW drama, Ringer.

Or wait ... am I really Brent, or in fact his long-lost identical bald-headed twin who was presumed dead but has really been hiding out in Fake Paris for the last two years??

Okay, seriously - I'm not Brent. But I am excited to be double-crossing you with SnapCaps of Ringer (or, as I like to call it, "The Apparent Trap") going forward. Or at least I hope to be excited, assuming the episodes improve - because this week's was a snoozer. How can fake pregnancies, real pregnancies, a dozen affairs, a cabal of scheming Brits, countless disused lofts, cell phone hijinks, and Two Times the Buffy be anything less than amazing? Let's find out.

"I'm not leaving you alone until you tell me where your sister is. And stop calling me 'carbonara'.

David Lynch
David Lynch Set to Launch Debut Album Crazy Clown Time
David Lynch
Visionary filmmaker David Lynch will make his solo debut as a musical artist this fall with Crazy Clown Time. Produced and written by David Lynch, the album's 14 original songs spotlight him on guitar and vocals. The album will be released on November 8 by independent British label Sunday Best Recordings / Pias in America.

Two tracks released late last year - "Good Day Today" and "I Know" - already have American and British critics buzzing about the album. The Los Angeles Times writes: "Frightening effects and mysterious lyrics: this is David Lynch's most unexpected venture to date." The BBC declares: "Now David Lynch leaves his stamp on the music world as well..." The Washington Post adds: "Every bit as pleasantly odd as you might imagine from David Lynch." New Musical Express calls it: "the sound of a creative genius dipping a toe in a new medium."

Crazy Clown Time will be available...

Morning Meme: Aston Kutcher Is Broken-Hearted, "J. Edgar" Gets a Prime Date and We Discuss Sexy Nerds
We still don't know how Charlie Harper will exit Two and a Half Men, or how Ashton Kutcher enters the show, but we do know Ashton is playing Walden Schmidt, a broken-hearted Internet billionaire.

A public school board in Missouri has voted to ban novels such as Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five that they deem "contrary to the Bible." I keep alternating being amused by the audacity of the move that can't possibly stand up to a lawsuit and totally horrified that they feel they can do this.

Michael Patrick King says that his new show Two Broke Girls isn't just Sex and the City on a budget, which is good, because he finally admits that there was no possible way the women in Sex and the City could exist in Manhattan.

You Must Remember This: 21 Gay Kisses We'll Never Forget
What's in a kiss? According to Wikipedia:

The kiss is an importanct expression of love and erotic emotions. Christopher Nyrop describes the kiss of love as an "exultant message of the longing of love, love eternally young, the burning prayer of hot desire, which is born on the lovers' lips, and 'rises,' as Charles Fuster has said, 'up to the blue sky from the green plains,' like a tender, trembling thank-offering." He adds, that the love kiss, "rich in promise, bestows an intoxicating feeling of infinite happiness, courage, and youth, and therefore surpasses all other earthly joys in sublimity.

What they said. Actually, "tender, trembling, thank-offering" is just about perfect. Kissing is a vulnerable act, even more so when we're kissing someone for the first time, as a test of mutual romantic interest.

In honor of today being International Gay Kissing Day*, we're presenting some of our all-time...

Memorial Day 2011 TV: Marathons, sports and specials
Memorial Day 2011 is here and while we should all take time to thank a veteran and active servicemen and women, it also means for us TVphiles - lots of good programming. So either settle in with some popcorn or make sure your DVR is ready to go.

There are movie marathons. Syfy is busting out its greatest hits in the giant monster oeuvre on Friday, followed by "Star Trek" movies all weekend. TCM and AMC are showing nothing but military movies, including classics like "All Quiet on the Western Front," "From Here to Eternity" and "Patton."

If marathons are your thing, you've got everything from "Firefly" and "Doctor Who" to "House Hunters" and "How It's Made." And if you're a sports fan, while the NBA playoffs are on hiatus, you can still watch a ton of baseball, the 2011 French Open or the annual Memorial Day race the Indianapolis 500.

Aronofsky Takes On Human Nature
Most people were relieved when Darren Aronofsky pulled out of 'The Wolverine' - I know I was. With Black Swan such a unique and successful film, it would have been a shame to see him go on to do a sequel to a terrible comic-book movie that nobody really asked for (no matter how he did it). No, people expected him to go down the more original route and luckily, it looks like he will be. Slashfilm are reporting that a budget is being worked out now for Human Nature, a sci-fi film about a man who wakes up in the future from being frozen. Annoyingly for him, he wakes up in a time when humans are now pets of another species. Now, picture that, with George Clooney, all under Aronofsky's direction. Amazing! Of course he has lots of potential projects lined up, particularly his Noah's Arc story which he...

Review: Does Logo (Finally) Have Another Reality Hit with "The Setup Squad"?
Renee Lee (left) with her squad, L to R, Lauretta, Jonathan, Helen, and Meredith

I'll confess to seriously mixed feelings about "the gay channel" Logo's recent reliance on cheaper-to-produce reality TV shows, at the clear expense of enjoyable, but much more expensive-to-mount scripted shows like Noah's Arc and (especially) Rick and Steve the Happiest Gay Couple in All the World.

Sure, RuPaul's Drag Race was deservedly a big hit (and The Robert Verdi Show was a gem, but under-appreciated, mostly because people missed the satire). But I was mostly underwhelmed by the RuPaul spin-off Drag U and the flower-arranging show The Arrangement. As for The A-List: New York ... well, don't get me started.

But Logo (which owns AfterElton.com) has another potential hit on their hands with The Setup Squad, premiering April 25th at 11:30 Pm, at least based on the first episode, provided to us by the channel.

22nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards Including Ricky Martin's Speech, Plus Partially Clothed Vikings
All photos credit: Getty Images

30 Rock, True Blood, Russell Simmons and Ricky Martin were just a few of the honorees at the 22nd annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York on Saturday. (Note: this is the first of GLAAD's three annual events. The second will be held in Los Angeles in April, and the third in San Francisco in May.)

This weekend's NYC shindig was presented by Rokk Vodka, which also sponsored a private reception and an after party. Plus, no doubt the next morning's hangover.

The Excellence in Media Award was presented to hip hop artist Russell Simmons for his activism in repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and for his strong support of marriage equality.

Ricky Martin received the Vito Russo Award and gave this acceptance speech:

True Blood was honored for outstanding drama series. Actor Denis O'Hare accepted on behalf of the show. Meanwhile, Tina Fey accepted 30 Rock's...
