Sensitive as well as enjoyable dramedy about brotherhood , love , guilt and redemption
ma-cortes2 January 2016
Sad as well as agreeable drama with comedy dealing with fraternity , friendship and a wonderful love stories . This is a coming-of-age story concerning about three brothers : Boris (Óscar Jaenada) , Álex (Javier Pereira) and Carlos (Javier Ríos) . Both of whom are quite different : the eldest Boris results to be a womanizer , the middle one , Carlos seems to be the most responsible , as he has to take care of their brothers and the family printing , and the youngest , a too serious nerd who just achieved an university scholarship in a great city of USA , Boston , and is leaving in few days . All of then spend their last days in their mother's beach house in a small town in Spain coast , before selling it . Their daddy died and they need the money to support their mummy and their family business . But there happens a terrible deed and happenings go wrong . Several years later , the trio returns the little town , but things have changed a lot .

This is a nice film with entertaining events but also with very sad moments , but that is the reason of its perfection . Simple as well as pleasant film about youthful , including comedy , drama , emotion , along with colorful cinematography and marvelous songs . A great story in which the characters find themselves from the experiences they live . Heartfelt tale dealing with three twenty and some brothers, regarding themes of family , friendship , love and death , but done through the eyes of youth . I think is a movie that is about time , culpability , love , life and especially about death . Close Dramedy concerning about sensitive brotherhood , death , repentance , emotion , and moving romances ; including enjoyable interpretations with outcast roles were pretty well developed . As their touching love stories becomes extremely affecting , partly because it's so innocent and partly because it's under threat of being ripped apart by an unfortunate accident . It may not totally get to the heart of some of the themes it raises , but it results in an exciting fresco with social fable , thoughtful issues , juvenile lives and by the end manages to be pretty touching . Plenty of emotional and family feeling in which solidarity triumphs and humor despite the disgraces and misfortunes . This thought-provoking and brooding flick concerning sweet and heartbreaking story of three brothers , given extra power by dealing with a moving portrait of youthful ; however , the picture sometimes relies heavily on the lively relationship among three protagonists . This can be the story of many faceless and nameless youngsters in any country who live , enjoy and love themselves . It is one of those movies which make you learn about life and I enjoyed it so much , and I recommend it . Main actors and support players give splendid performances . As Oscar Jaenada is frankly well as the oldest brother that only care for girls , fun and drugs . Jaenada is considered to be one of the best Spanish actors , playing interesting roles in ¨November¨ , ¨El Juego De La Verdad¨, ¨Herencia Valdemar¨, ¨Atraco¨, ¨Descongelate¨ and especially ¨Camaron¨ ; he is nowadays making an international career with titles as ¨Pirates of the Caribbean : On Stranger Tides¨, ¨Losers¨ , ¨Che , Guerrilla¨ , ¨The Limits of Control¨ , ¨After Words¨, ¨The Cold Light of Day¨ and ¨Cantinflas¨ . Their brothers are well played by Javier Pereira and Javier Rios . And their girlfriends and lovers are nicely performed by young actresses as Marta Larralde , Pilar Castro and Celia Freijeiro .

There stands out the colorful and atmospheric cinematography by Alfonso Parra , a good cameraman who photographed the successful film "The Weakness of the Bolshevik", as well as ¨Siete Minutos¨ , ¨La Bicicleta¨, ¨Nubes De Verano¨, among others . Lively as well as adequate musical score , plenty of wonderful songs , by Nacho Mastretta , a good professional who has composed soundtracks in a lot of famous movies such as ¨Torremolinos 73¨ (2003) , ¨El Gran Vázquez¨ (2010) , ¨Va a Ser Nadie Es Perfecto¨ (2006) and ¨La Hija Del Cannibal¨ (2003) . The motion picture was professionally directed by Miguel Santesmanes . Miguel is a good producer , director and writer ; a fine craftsman expert on comedy and drama as proved in ¨La Fuente Amarilla¨ (1999) Amor, Curiosidad, Prozak , Dudas¨ (2001) and this ¨Dias Azules¨(2006) .

Not a great but a good feel better movie

Warning: Spoilers
Coming of age movies are something already seen enough that rarely add something new. My humble belief is that people go to see them to recall things they did (or would have liked to do) when young and as usually all of them have a moral ending, many feel better about not longer being young (or that young) and missing a lot of fun in that time.

Dias Azules (Blue days) is not all that different, but at least the approach is quite original, the outcome is a lot less "moralized" than usual PG-13 American movies (at least, people here have sex and do not regret it). The important subject here is not sexual awakening (even one of the characters loose his virginity) but hard process of growing up, responsibility and sacrifice. You can deduct, that this is not really a comedy even when there are several funny and optimistic moments.

Three brothers spend a last day in their parent's beach house in a small town in Spain coast, before selling it. Their father died and they need the money to support their mother and their family business.

All of them are quite different, the oldest an irresponsible that only care for women, fun and drugs (the outstanding Oscar Jaenada), the middle one (who has to take care of their family and business), too serious for his own good and the youngest, a nerd who just received a fool scholarship in Boston and is leaving in few days.

The interlaced events during twenty four hours are documented until a tragic accident forces one of them to run away to Brazil to avoid prison. The movie jumps to seven years later, when another tragedy (their mother dead and burial in the small town) joins the three brothers again. They have grown up, the town has changed and there are a few surprises.

Clearly divided in two acts, the first one, albeit a little slow is an awesome achievement. Almost every event that occurs, is quite natural and believable (except may be the boat that happens to travel to Brazil the next day).

The second half, with the discoveries and life lessons seemed a little too forced or convenient sometimes; but in sum it works anyway just because the excellent casting of the three main characters.

A piece of advice; this is an European movie so, there are drugs, nudity (male and female), the treatment of sex (even little is shown) is quite liberal; so if you are the kind of people easy to feel offended; try be mature and enjoy a good movie.

Good movie, great soundtrack
jwatts8314 September 2006
"Dias azules" manages to make the most of its simple plot line. Although it's being marketed as somewhat of a comedy, this movie isn't a comedy per se. It's a coming of age movie, and a pretty good one. The soundtrack is great, and the fact that the setting is in a small town is interesting (given that a lot of movies in this vein have been set in Madrid or Barcelona lately.)I liked the fact that the relationship between the brothers wasn't over sentimentalized. "Dias azules" is a movie where not a lot happens, the characters lives are marked by one big event and then the rest of the film bares this out. I like that not all of the characters' lives are neatly wrapped up.

Also, this movie has nothing to do with the external review in Variety, about a documentary about digging up Civil War graves, also called "Dias azules."
