A Boy and His Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia

This is another under the radar gem, like most of them this game didn't exactly cover the market like goo but as time when on this game has become a sleeper cult gem, that was good enough to have a sequel for the "Game Boy" but also a revival on the "Nintendo Wii" both stories for another time. I always love it whenever there is something added or different to an old video game genre because it shows that the genre still has plenty to offer but most importantly that you can still do more with it.

The graphical presentation is decent it's nothing really to write home about, strangely it almost looks like it could of easily been a game for one of the old 80's PCs like maybe the "Commodore 64" or any other at the time, which you could said adds more to the old school charm of the game. Music is decent if repetitive, if you want you can always mute it and just play some other music. Where the game has it is in the gameplay and the gameplay is solid but was also revolutionary for it's time as there really weren't any action platform games like this game at the time.

This game is sort of one of the trial-and-error platform games much like with "Prince of Persia" and "Flashback". You do go from point A to B, but you must think first before getting there. But also, like how the game has some exploring element too, despite being a linear game there is also a nonlinear element where you get to take your time with the area to not just figure out how to get from point A to B but to gather some hidden treasures.

The Blob is probably one of the best tools of gaming ever, it's also one of my favorite non cliche weapons in video games also. Really like the animation on the blob creature he's so cute, reminds me of Glep and Gloop from the cartoon show "The Herculoids" and their probably what partially inspired this game. You can also say this game is one of the first co-op games as need to always bring your Blob with you as well as have it obey your instructions to comply.

This Blob creature can transform into whatever you want depending on which jellybean you use; you may have to throw each different kind of Jelly Bean at the blob at first as a tutorial to know which one does what. Once you got that down then you're both almost an unstoppable force as you Blob can just transform into just about anything to everything. From a latter to advance up a level, a bridge to get across, and my favorite a rocket to blow away certain enemies and obstacles.

If you're into vintage platform action games but are looking for something different, this vintage cult gem is a gooey treasure worth a try.
