Matthew “Rickety Cricket” Mara is back in action for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 — hide your horny dogs.
One of the cooler, more conceptual, The Picture of Dorian Gray-style aspects of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is how one of the show’s foundational writers and producers plays the physical manifestation of the Paddy’s Pub Gang’s spiritual decay in the form of the disgraced, disfigured, homeless ex-priest Rickety Cricket. When Father Mara found his way back into the Gang’s lives in the Season Two episode “The Gang Exploits a Miracle,” they were already assholes, of course, but they weren’t quite the monsters that they would gradually become in the later seasons. Then, Dee’s decision to seduce Rickety Cricket away from the Catholic Church sent his life down a path of homelessness, drug addiction, prostitution and bestiality that has left him a grotesque, corrupted...

Though Abbott Elementary may be all about a “work family,” the series’ showrunner and leading lady Quinta Brunson is apparently having second thoughts about allowing her real-life family to watch the show’s two upcoming crossover episodes with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
In what’s become yet another drip in the slowest leak known to man, Brunson hinted at what fans — including her mother — can expect during the beloved Pennsylvania-based series’ collab. “Yeah, my mom’s not going to be allowed to watch that,” she told People while attending the Ema Awards Gala on Sunday.
Although Brunson remained tight-lipped on what schemes, plots and/or scams she gets into with the overlords of Paddy’s Pub — ones her mother shall never witness if the actress/producer/BuzzFeed alum has her way — she’s far from the only actor to hint that the upcoming crossover gets, well, real weird with it.

Although Liam Neeson knows how to demand a screen, no matter what’s on the page, his latest film Absolution feels like a retread of the same old deadbeat-dad-tries-to-redeem-himself-before-it’s-too-late plot, as the title might suggest.
In the Tony Gayton-written, Hans Petter Moland-directed crime thriller from Samuel Goldwyn Films, the Oscar nominee plays an aging Boston gangster who, after receiving a terminal diagnosis, attempts to make things right with his estranged daughter Daisy (Frankie Shaw) while rectifying his life of crime and trying to do some good before he bites the dust. Meanwhile, he has to convince his boss Mr. Conner (an underutilized Ron Perlman) that his mind isn’t slipping as he figures out who ordered a hit on him.
Taking a cue from Ryan Gosling’s Driver in Drive (or perhaps Mary Elizabeth Ellis’ Waitress in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Neeson’s character is known only as Thug.

The most powerful sitcom crossover in the history of Pennsylvania is officially a double feature.
Back at the beginning of this month, Rob McElhenney sent the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fandom into a frenzy when he posted on-set photos from behind the scenes at an Abbott Elementary production, confirming that, eight months after the viral Glaswegian Willy Wonka nightmare got him and Quinta Brunson talking, a crossover between the two hometown sitcoms is finally in the works. Many of those same fans were dismayed to learn that the planned collaboration would happen on Abbott Elementary’s home court, where the show’s comparatively clean and upbeat tone (coupled with ABC’s censors) would limit the Always Sunny cast’s aptitude to be equal parts appalling and hilarious.
Then, on Friday, Variety blessed us with an exclusive scoop that opens the door for profane comedy played off of the already put-upon Willard R.

“Johnson’s Boner can now turn into a Hotboner! While holding aim, hold the secondary fire button to charge, then release it to deploy your sticky payload.”

The highly-anticipated crossover between ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” and FX’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” just got bigger. While it was already revealed that the “Sunny” characters will show up on “Abbott” this season, Variety has confirmed that, as part of a two-episode event, the “Abbott” teachers will also show up on “Sunny” to hang with the Gang at Paddy’s Pub.
Earlier this month, “Abbott” creator and star Quinta Brunson and “Sunny” star/co-creator Rob McElhenney revealed that the two shows would join comedic forces for a very special episode of “Abbott” (which Brunson had previously hinted at San Diego Comic-Con). The mash-up made sense, given that both shows are set in Philadelphia, plus they both air on Disney-owned networks. (“Abbott” is produced by Warner Bros. TV.)

To some TV-watchers, crossover episodes are like flipping through a stack of old photographs — if they’re not in any of them and nobody’s having sex, they just don’t care.
Later this season on Abbott Elementary, Mac, Charlie, Dennis, Dee and Frank from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will all guest star in a very special episode that’s been in the works since Quinta Brunson and Rob McElhenney first bonded over the bizarre, traumatizing and unlicensed Willy’s Chocolate Experience in Glasgow that went viral back in January. McElhenney officially confirmed the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia/Abbott Elementary crossover at the beginning of this month by dumping a bunch of onset photos showing the Paddy’s Pub gang palling around with the Willard R. To advertise the upcoming 17th season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the official FX TikTok account is showing off its weird, crappy-looking notebook drawings that confuse us even more than the pages of Charlie Kelly’s dream journal.
I imagine that it’s probably pretty hard to properly market It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia on a platform with notoriously stringent content guidelines and secret algorithms that hide excessive swearing, violence, bigotry and substance abuse. Seeing as those are practically the four pillars of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the social media manager in charge of the official FX TikTok account has the unenviable task of getting Gen Z eyeballs on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia promotional material. As such, we can choose to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that the stress of the position caused a psychotic break that led to the account posting its...

FX still isn’t happy about their flagship sitcom’s strangely sexual treatment of dogs — it’s just too bad for Dennis Jr. that the network couldn’t find their conscience back when Rob McElhenney wrote the secret recipe for Mac’s Famous Mac and Cheese.
Earlier this month, McElhenney posted a screenshot of a note that the FX Standards and Practices Department sent him during the writing of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 in which the censors advised that “any graphic bestiality simulation must be avoided for cuts airing both on FX linear channel & the Hulu platform.” Thanks to McElhenney’s poor understanding of Instagram’s marker tool, fans were able to easily discern that the “graphic bestiality” note referred to a “scene where Dennis shoots video footage of him masturbating a dog & when Dennis holds up a Tupperware container,” indicating that, just as Danny DeVito promised, Season...

When It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia arrived on the Abbott Elementary set, did the family-friendly ABC sitcom have a production assistant specifically assigned to clean up Danny DeVito’s beer volcano?

With any TV show that goes on for thirty-six years and counting, there will inevitably be something from an early episode that comes back around to haunt it. The "South Park" showrunners have written entire episodes apologizing for poorly-aged takes they gave in their early years, while "Family Guy" has had their characters outright say that they're now "phasing out the gay jokes" that were all too common in their early seasons.
Meanwhile, "The Simpsons" ended up the center of a national conversation around 2020 about the ethics of having white voice actors play non-white cartoon characters, leading to the show giving Dr. Hibbert a new voice actor who unfortunately couldn't quite pull off the character's trademark laugh. They've also quietly phased Apu out of the show entirely, after comedian Hari Kondabolu sparked a nationwide discussion over the character's legacy as one of the only Indian characters so many Americans were familiar with for decades.

Lisa Ann Walter, or teacher Melissa Schemmenti to Abbott Elementary fans, had one request for the ABC mockumentary’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover episode. “I really was excited about acting with Dee, with Kaitlin Olson,” Walter said (via Variety). “I met her at some of the events that we have to go do.

Netflix has truly been the gift that keeps on giving in 2024. All throughout the year, the streaming service has continued to acquire so many past and recent favorite television series for our binge-watching pleasure, even beyond its own original series.
Whether it's This Is Us, The Resident, Fire Country, Interview with the Vampire, Sex and the City, Lost, or How I Met Your Mother, there were (and are) plenty of great shows to binge on Netflix. In a post-Suits renaissance world, what's old is new again and we're all eating it up.

Though Charlie Kelly’s infamous milk steak may have been widely panned by the brave It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia fans who dared to try a taste — “it was not only the flavor, but the texture that was the stuff of nightmares,” Andrew Rea of Binging with Babish complained during a 2017 special — not everyone disagrees with the rat king’s particular palate, especially several chefs in the Greek isles.

On Tuesday, Kaitlin Olson — the actress behind everyone’s favorite avian-American, Dee Reynolds — headed to Instagram with a sneak peek at the first day of filming the series’ highly-anticipated 17th season, showing off some strange marks adorning the concrete outside of her trailer,
“Not sure what’s going on here, but it looks like I’m in the right spot,” Olson captioned a clip depicting the Nsfw grooves – some complete with a suspicious, pale stain around the tip — in the asphalt.
While a few fans flocked to the comments to make the kind of obvious jokes that could’ve been plucked straight from Sweet Dee’s brief...

Su casa es no más.
When Sweet Dee poorly translated the Paddy’s Pub Gang’s even more poorly conceived plan to surprise a newly immigrated Mexican family with an Extreme Makeover: Home Edition-inspired demolition of their home in the 2008 It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode “The Gang Gets Extreme: Home Makeover Edition,” her sloppy Spanish explanation was a lot closer to the truth of the poor Juarez’ situation than what she was actually trying to say. By the end of the episode, the Juarez home was rubble, Dee’s mansion was forfeit and the promised “makeover” was nothing more than a traumatizing exploitation of the poor family that nearly left them worse off than they were before the whole ordeal.
And, as it turns out, Dee’s explanation to the Juarez family and the ensuing carnage was frighteningly close to how Ty Pennington and his “professionals” left the families...

Twenty years after Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton shot the original pilot of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia on a $200 budget, McElhenney still hasn’t used any of the proceeds to pay for a new wardrobe.
The filming of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 is officially underway with McElhenney, Day and Howerton returning to the series that put them on the map, ending an extended hiatus that saw a 15-months-and-counting drought of any It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia content after Dennis tore Elon Musk’s beating heart out of his chest and ate it in the Season 16 finale “Dennis Takes a Mental Health Day.” During that time, the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia fandom received the unwelcome news that The Always Sunny Podcast just sort of ended, the Gang shot a crossover episode with Abbott Elementary and McElhenney continued to play real-life Football Manager with his new...

At least one person in Philadelphia wants to hear what Sweet Dee has to say.
When the Paddy’s Pub gang of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia ventures from their usual haunt on the south side of the city all the way to West Philadelphia, Mac, Charlie, Dennis, Dee and Frank will all presumably get to walk the halls of Willard R. Abbott Elementary School and demonstrate their own profound lack of education and intelligence to the cast of Abbott Elementary. Nearly eight months after a viral tweet about the Willy’s Chocolate Experience in Glasgow got Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson talking with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia head and bodyguard Rob McElhenney, the crossover between the two sitcoms that best represent the City of Brotherly Love is coming in the ninth episode of Abbott Elementary Season Four, which will air later this year.

Mayim Bialik always had Jim Parsons in her corner, and that’s something she’ll never forget. Back when The Big Bang Theory was still dominating screens, Parsons went to bat for Bialik, standing up to the show’s producers when things got heated. He wasn’t just playing a genius on TV—he was one behind the scenes too, making sure Bialik got the respect she deserved.

Parsons proved that loyalty and friendship could still exist in the cutthroat world of Hollywood. Looking back, Bialik knows that without his fight, her journey on the show might’ve been a whole different story. And for that, she’ll always be grateful.

At Warner Bros. Television Group’s Fall TV Season Celebration, “Abbott Elemntary” star Lisa Ann Walter expressed her excitement over the upcoming crossover episode with “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
The two hit comedies take place in the City of Brotherly Love and have already begun filming together.
“I’ve been a long time fan of that show,” Walter said. “The work that they’ve done on our ‘Abbott’ set has been hilarious.”
She added that the cast of “It’s Always Sunny,” specifically Charlie Day, is much more improvisational in nature than the “Abbott” crew.
“I really was excited about acting with Dee, with Kaitlin Olson,” Walter said. “I met her at some of the events that we have to go do…I just really liked her a lot. I said to Quinta, ‘Can I do my scenes with her? Write me scenes with her.’”

Everyone knows that "Pulp Fiction," Quentin Tarantino's beloved, acclaimed 1994 ensemble film, is told across a scattered, non-linear narrative where the stories end up linking together in wholly unexpected ways. But apparently, the original idea was quite different.
In a sprawling oral history of the film in Variety commemorating the movie's 30th anniversary, Roger Avary, who co-wrote the story with Tarantino, said there was initially a totally different format for the project. "The original idea for 'Pulp Fiction' was, we're going to make three short films with three different filmmakers. I'm going to make one, Quentin's going to make one and we hit a pal, Adam Rifkin, who was going to make one. I wrote a script called 'Pandemonium Reigns,' and along the way, my little short film expanded into a feature-length script. 'Reservoir Dogs' expanded into a feature-length script. Among the many standout characters on "The Big Bang Theory" is Amy (Mayim Bialik), who was introduced in the season 3 finale as the only woman in the world who could possibly be a viable love interest for Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons). Introduced as robotic and blunt, Amy turns out to not just be one of the only characters who can match Sheldon's freak, but she also proves vital to softening Sheldon up and turning him into a slighter kinder, slightly healthier person. Although Penny (Kaley Cuoco) is probably the biggest catalyst for Sheldon's growth over the series, the importance of Amy for Sheldon's character arc can't be overstated. Still, her role on the series was very nearly cut short.
"After my episode in the season three finale, I literally thought my character might never come back," Bialik said in a 2022 interview. "I had been out of the industry for...

"The gang" on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" are five of the most extreme, ridiculous, poorly behaved people in television history. While the show is so much more than just a show about terrible people, it is admittedly populated by some pretty awful human beings. Charlie (Charlie Day), Mac (Rob McElhenney), Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Sweet Dee (Kaitlin Olson), and Frank (Danny DeVito) are pretty entertaining all on their own, but they also have to interact with other people, which means expanding the "Always Sunny" world with more weird and wild characters. There are dozens of recurring characters that appear throughout the show's 16 seasons, but some of them have made their mark more than others, either as willing accomplices in the gang's schemes or as their unfortunate targets.
There aren't really many decent people who engage with the gang for long without being broken or simply bailing on the situation, so...

If there's one thing fans love to look for in sitcoms, it's unscripted moments. Scroll to the comments section of an "It's Always Sunny" YouTube video, and you're sure to see someone point out how Rob McElhenney is totally trying not to break in that one shot, or how that one actor's line was actually made up on the spot, so the other characters' confused reactions were genuine.
There's no such fun in "The Big Bang Theory," which runs on a format that leaves actors with very little room to mess around. "'Big Bang' is very tightly scripted. Because we shoot in front of a live audience, it's basically like doing a filmed piece of theatre, really," said Melissa Rauch (who plays Bernadette) in a 2016 interview. "I love it so much, but you don't want to mess with what they write because it's almost like this beautiful concerto...

Kaitlin Olson Kaitlin Olson, best known for her comedic prowess in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, takes on a new challenge in ABC’s High Potential. This time, she navigates the world of crime-solving with a unique blend of humor and drama. Olson stars as Morgan, a single mom with an exceptional mind who, after stumbling upon a crucial clue at her cleaning job in a police station, finds herself unexpectedly assisting the detectives. While the show delves into the intricacies of criminal investigations, Olson’s signature comedic timing shines through, creating a refreshing balance between lighthearted moments and the gravity of the cases. As Olson herself explains, her improvisational skills allow her to keep her character authentic and engaging, even within the framework of a crime drama. As if a brand new season of “Abbott Elementary” wasn’t enough to get people excited, creator and star Quinta Brunson is continuing to expand the show’s appeal with a television tradition that has become rarer and rarer as time goes on: A crossover episode. And what better show to intermingle with than fellow Pa series, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Announcing via pictures posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, it was revealed last week that the two Disney-owned shows (“Sunny” on FX and “Abbott” on ABC) would crossover this season, with Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney, and Danny DeVito being featured alongside Brunson, Tyler James Williams, and William Stanford Davis outside the “Abbott” school set. Speaking in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brunson shared how this collaboration came together and why she thinks it made perfect sense.

Dennis Reynolds has to return some videotapes — the video store guy will want to know what he thought of Transporter 2.
Ever since Glenn Howerton and the rest of the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia creative team first started to unleash Dennis’ full potential for sociopathy around Season Three, fans of the series have long drawn comparisons between the D.E.N.N.I.S. System architect and Patrick Bateman, the villain protagonist and unreliable narrator of Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel American Psycho and its 2000 film adaptation starring Christian Bale. After all, the similarities are obvious — both men are vain, emotionless besides disgust and greed, clinical in their “approach” to women and the objective peak of masculine aesthetics.
Earlier this year, Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider claimed that Lionsgate is planning “a new American Psycho movie,” and although the studio itself hasn’t yet revealed any plans to revisit its cult-beloved satirical horror/thriller,...

The McPoyle bloodline has been clean and pure for a thousand years before Liam decided that the dating pool and the gene pool need not be family-only affairs.
On It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, there really aren’t many representations of loving families or meaningful romantic relationships, but, thankfully, the inbred Pennsylvanian tribe known as the McPoyles and their most notable twin sons offer us both simultaneously. Between Charlie’s longtime stalking of and eventual consummation with the Waitress, Dee’s dozens of plow partners, Frank’s deceased whoo-ur fiancee, Mac’s love-hate relationship with his own sexuality and Dennis’ entire arc with Mauree–er, Bastet, the Paddy’s Pub Gang can’t count a single happy, mutually fulfilling romantic relationship among them, making Liam and Ryan McPoyle’s “brotherly love” the longest-lasting and most caring relationship on the entire show. But it’s not exactly monogamous, as their sister can attest.

As “Abbott Elementary” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” shoot their upcoming crossover episode, “Abbott” coshowrunner and EP Patrick Schumacker teased there are some filmed scenes that will “probably never make it to ABC.”

We know that “Abbott Elementary” is officially doing a crossover with “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” this season, but could there also be a “Masked Singer” overlap? Ken Jeong thinks so this week.
It’s “Soundtrack of My Life Night” on the Fox competition Wednesday night, and two performers are set to be unmasked from Group A. Who will they be? For now, that’s anyone’s guess.
But in TheWrap’s exclusive sneak peek at the episode, panelists Robin Thicke and Ken Jeong have their latest guesses for Woodpecker’s identity. You can watch that below.
“If I follow the clues, the burger, this actress is in ‘Good Burger 2,'” Thicke puzzles out. “And you know what? She famously wears glasses in a lot of her YouTube videos. And I think that this could be Liza Koshy.”
“Because I’ve been thinking this was probably a voice that I haven’t heard before,...

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 is in the works, which means that the FX Standards and Practices Department is, once again, duty bound to ask Rob McElhenney whether it’s really necessary for him to do that to a dog.
You have to imagine that being responsible for keeping It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia in compliance with the appropriate content guidelines of both FX and Hulu must be one of the most unenviable jobs in show business — especially for an animal lover. After all, the longest running live-action sitcom in American history is explicitly supposed to feature the most monstrous everyday behavior of America’s biggest assholes, and the restrictions of basic cable are seemingly in place to bar shows like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia from killing dogs, eating dogs or doing, umm, other things to dogs onscreen, even with the TV-ma rating prominently displayed in the top-right corner.
