When good intentions pay off
TBJCSKCNRRQTreviews19 February 2010
This is the longest of the two featurettes that have individual sites here on the page on the 2-Disc Edition DVD of Manderlay. It consists of behind the scenes footage, interviews and clips from the film. We find out about the processes that go into this approach to putting a movie together, and hear from numerous of the people involved. Everyone has something to say and explain it well. This has a solid pace, and it is well-edited. It is, as usual, interesting to hear Trier talk about America, because it's clearly a subject that he is very... well, there are those who would call it an obsession, and he goes back and forth between saying that he knows more than enough about the country from the media, and the diplomatic denying that that's sufficient to pass judgment on the nation. There is a bit of Danish spoken in this, among all the English, but there are subtitle tracks of both, for anyone who doesn't understand one or the other. Note that this documentary almost immediately spoils the ending of Dogville. There is disturbing content in this, such as in the material from the picture itself(and some that is not fictitious, as well). I recommend this to anyone who wants to find out about the production of the title. 7/10
