Pretty nice show.
dy1585 July 2006
Ji-eun is the owner of the house her parents had left behind which is called Full House (the English translation of the TV series). On her first holiday trip to Shanghai, she met a celebrity on the same plane she was boarding - Yeong-jae.

That was the start of the things to come between the two of them.

When Ji-eun returned home from the holiday trip, she soon found out that her two friends had sold her house and was clearly furious. To her, the house meant all the world to her. It's where Yeong-jae came into the picture and he decided to move in, in order for Ji-eun able to pay off her debts as being an internet novelist trying to make it big someday as a movie scriptwriter. The two even made a marriage contract and gotten married, much to the surprise of many, even the media.

But like any other love stories, the two of them are caught in the tangle of Hye-won and Min-hyuk many a times. Also around this time, Yeong-jae's career had gone downhill. Yeong-jae had at times made snide remarks about Ji-eun's ability to become a movie scriptwriter. But the latter stuck to her beliefs. And in the end, her movie script was sent to Yeong-jae (he never knew at first) to play the lead role in a brand new movie which finally saw Yeong-jae back in the spotlight once more.

And does Yeong-jae really able to confess how he really feels for Ji-eun?

Comedy and the fights aside between Yeong-jae and Ji-eun, it's a pretty nice show. I first watched this on the DVD which my mother had it some time ago. Through the Mandarin translation, that is. It's recommended if you managed to find subtitles and/or translation suitable to your language ability.

must watch if you want to feel happy ;)
mitr_frnd323 February 2015
Yes, you read that right!

If you have been feeling low and want to feel happy, go for this drama.

This was the first korean drama I watched and absolutely loved it.

Trust me, when I was watching this series, I had a happy feeling throughout. Yesss...this drama made me happy.

The ever smiling Han Ji Eun gave me a new outlook towards life and taught me to smile no matter what.

The cool and cute Young Jae makes you smile when he just can't express himself and ends up making us laugh again and again :D

Lee Young Jae's first love interest brings a lot of twist in the story.

Yu min's character is also well written. He's so perfect that you sometimes end up feeling that Ji Eun goes to him. :)

All in all..a must watch..you'll surely love it! ♡

Classic Kdrama! A must watch
11ovz112 September 2021
First of all this drama is very old. I first watched it when I was in school, a decade ago. When I watched it recently again, I realized the drama can be a bit outdated for the current audience. However, this is STILL a must watch for all new kdrama fans.

The story is simple. The cast is perfect. The main couple is adorable. The comedy is hilarious. Song Hyekyo is the cutest (plus she sings the OST), and Rain is HOT AF!

It's a light watch. There aren't major twists or mysteries involved. It's simply about two idiotic people with big attitudes who are unable to communicate their love in a proper way.

Just watch it! You'd see what I mean.

As Korean Comedy dramas go, this is great.
Pishiro24 August 2005
After managing to see probably some 15-20 South Korean feature films produced between 1999 to 2005, I took the recommendation of the kind staff at my local Korean grocery store to check out the more popular TV series. Starring the rather lovely Song Hye-kyo, playing an internet novelist and the curiously monikered Rain as a wildly popular young movie star, on the one hand it's a good example of the quirky mix of slapstick comedy interspersed with rather sobering moments of heartbreak and frustration experienced by the characters. The surprising fact is that the first episode follows a similar plot line to House of Sand and Fog, which certainly wasn't a comedy and was absolutely full of despair. Girl inherits lovely house on the coast from parents, struggles financially, circumstances lead to her losing most of her possessions and having her home sold off underneath her feet, new owner has little sympathy at first. That's fortunately where the comparison ends! Plenty of moments of Song Hye-kyo screwing her face up in disgust by some awkward thing she's said or done, and Rain (wearing his rather strange low cut male-cleavage shirts) glancing into the ether whilst biting his lip do eventually lead to a building relationship between a very odd couple. Words can not describe how huge a hit this series was in much of Asia, so from even from this not so Asian reviewer, Full House holds a charming appeal.

Excellent Drama
ghajiniblue6 November 2009
What can I say? it's one of my favorite movies. It has everything: love, romance, action, sorrow, and happiness. hero & heroine of this film have wonderful chemistry together, and it shows. It makes you feel like you want to become a better person, and not be so selfish, self-centered, and makes you realize that there more important things in life.

This movie is so indescribable and unique.I have seen it many times. I will admit that I am a hopeless romantic and I love to watch these types of movies.

I think that it is so romantic and so beautiful and i think that the movie was made very well

The cutest show EVER
vmarshall-112 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
To westerners, the show, by most conventional means, isn't that great-- no sex(barely even kissing!)and no violence. While there are attractive characters, they aren't super sexed up and rely on their naivety and cuteness.

The story centers around the faked marriage of Lee Youngjae (Rain) and Han Ji-Eun (Song Hyegyo). Han Ji Eun's parents died while she was in middle, leaving her an amazing home-- one of her only possessions. She's is tricked out of her home by her friends and they end up selling it to spoiled actor Lee Youngjae. Young Jae is in emotional turmoil after it appears that the woman he loves, Kan Hye-won, will leave for New York. When Kang Hye-won confronts Youngjae about his feelings for her at a press party, Youngjae covers to protect her instead saying that he loves Ji-Eun.

In order to take a break from tabloids, Ji-Eun and Youngjae enter a contract marriage in which Ji-Eun will get the house back in the divorce. Overtime, the pair's quirky differences bring them together but not without emotional hardship. Youngjae has an attachment to Hye-won while Han Ji-Eun feels indebted, and attracted to, her boss, Yoo Min-Hyuk. (Yoo Min-hyuk also happens to be the object of Hyewon's affection) Eventually, Han Ji-Eun and Youngjae get married (for real!) as they realize that they "sarangye" (love) one another.

Overall, the show is endearing and incredibly innocent when you consider what we watch in north America. Rain and Song Hye-kyo have amazing chemistry throughout the show, although, a very disappointing kiss at the end. The show's innocence proves that all is not lost in this world and it's definitely a show you should watch. While most westerners won't really understand, just get past the first two episodes and you'll be hooked!

Sweet romantic comedy that tugs at your heartstrings and tickle your funny bone
witerary2 May 2009
Though I am an avid Korean film fan (mostly horror and action flicks the likes of Arahan, The Host, and the lovely My Sassy Girl), I have never watched its TV series because they tend to be too long and complicated. Full House (as well as other Korean TV series) became a hit in our country a few years back. I didn't mind it because I already have a big respect and fondness for its film industry.

What got me interested was the young pop idol Rain. After watching his documentary on Discovery channel, and being interested in his skills as a performer (not to mention he's so cute), I started looking for his first TV series because of the good reviews. So I got the complete 20 episodes of Full House. What started off as an interesting journey became marked with sleepless nights (trying to finish at least 3-5 episodes a day), laughter and giggles, sentimental sniffles, excitement, anxiety, you name it.

The story revolves around four main characters. A crazy but beautiful writer girl who owns a house and nothing more, and was duped by friends who sold her house without her knowledge; a movie actor (Rain) who buys the house and treats her like a maid in exchange for a place to stay; a fashion designer who is the superstar's best friend and secret love; and a rich, handsome producer who is interested in the writer girl. Eventually, the first two couple engage in a "business marriage contract" for publicity, while the last two tries to break them apart.

Granted, the show has its flaws in the script. Sometimes, actions tend to be exaggerated. I'd get confused and frustrated with the leading lady's inability to leave Rain when she is totally mistreated. The fashion designer lacks the charm to sweep both men off their feet and is portrayed as a weak character despite her successful career. The other leading man is totally gorgeous and I sometimes wish the writer ends up with him instead. The superstar is quite a bit infuriating with his childish, sneaky ways, his tantrums, his inability to acknowledge love, and his stubborn, rude ways. But when you see him shed a tear in pain, arrrgh. There goes my heart. I believe that's what the writer girl felt too. We just couldn't leave him alone.

Other flaws in the script? There are no violent kissing scenes. Not that I am complaining. From the very start, the show sweeps you off your feet with the development of each character, from the moment they all meet and weave in and out of each others' lives, and eventually becoming more involved with one another. It was one hell of a ride in the senses, to the very end when you would have wanted them to be more passionate physically.

Add to that other characters: the writer's two scheming friends who conned her; the superstar's mom, dad, grandma and levelheaded boss...all have interesting quirks that add to the spice of this romantic comedy.

I may be harping too much about this and leave you disappointed if you watch it. Well, if you're Asian like me, you will most likely relate to it more than the Westerners, who will see this as a bore (staying together in a house with such an explosive chemistry and nothing is ever happening will most likely raise your brows).

I do like the show, though, and it's two thumbs up for me, simply because it draws so much emotion from me (just as it did My Sassy Girl where the odd couple really made me laugh and cry in ways I didn't expect), and it leaves me wanting more. Well, I also did want it to end soon and happily.

I still hesitate to watch another Korean TV series (it drains the hell out of me trying to complete the show in one viewing). I will still prefer watching the movies. But for once, Full House has left me happy and dreaming, and craving for the innocent romance of younger days.

Corny too repetitive silly and funny
phd_travel16 April 2020
Corny repetitive and so crazy it's funny. Song Hye Kyo and Rain play a cute bickering couple who enter into a fake marriage but of course end up falling for each other. The fighting is the funny thing. The jokes are super corny. The secondary couple that creates the love square isn't as horrible as in some other Korean series. Although the secondary girl is quite annoying. The middle is really repetitive. Like in many pre 2010 series the producers should have cut half the episodes out. The fashions are an example of the worst of the early 2000s. Still the pair are likeable.

Flawed but charming early KDrama
AJ_McAninch6 July 2018
Though the premise is ridiculous, and there are other obvious plot holes, the series is worth watching for the expert cast, especially the leads, and often hilarious scenes. There are better KDramas through the years since this one was filmed and helped launch the Korean wave, but none that will make viewers smile and laugh more.

Bickering couple is appealing even through slow third of the series...
fprefect-685-2810842 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Full House (2004, 16 episode) kdrama has ridiculous premise of two friends selling Ji-eun's house while she is on vacation in China. Out of cash in China, she turns to the obnoxious actor Young-jae, whom she annoyed on the airplane trip to China and he begrudgingly helps her. When Ji-eun returns home to an empty house, she finds the Young-jae is the new owner. They enter a contract marriage in which she'll earn the house and he'll make the love of his life jealous. Along the way they develop feelings for each other as fake becomes real but the couple has a hard time connecting until the very end.

Without the compelling main couple, the show never would have worked. But they clicked and the show benefited. The story slowed down and was repetitive in the latter half of the series. Episodes 15 and 16 finally provided the emotional payoff.

What I liked about Full House:

1. Male lead, Rain, as Young-jae is either yelling/bickering at Ji-eun or bestowing an adorable grin. I had no idea Rain was a kpop star until after completing this series. His character was suited to his acting ability. When she taught him to ice skate or he became the housekeeper, he was very cute. He should done a song for the OST.

2. Female lead, Song Hye-kyo, as Han Ji-eun was sparkling, adorable, gave Young-jae attitude and sassed him back. She didn't care if he yelled at her. You believed that she was falling in love with him. When they played in the park together, they were darling. Her relationship with his family was warm and she earned a place in their hearts singing the "three bears" song during their first meeting.

What I did not like about Full House:

1. Young-jae's friends, Hee-jin and Dong-woo, annoyed me. Fast forward material these two!

2. The reasons why our lead couple could not be together were not solid in the last third of the series. The story dragged and became repetitive. You could probably skip 4 episodes in the latter half of the show and restart with episode 15 and you wouldn't miss much. This is typical of kdrama rom-coms, get the couple in love in first half of the series, slow to a crawl with obstacles in second half of the series, emotional payoff in the final episode.

Good story
leahcubed27 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is noted to be the pioneer of the Koreen "romantic comedy." Han Ji-eun (Song Hye-kyo), an aspiring scriptwriter, lives in a house called "Full House" built by her late father. Her long time "friends" send her away on vacation and sell her house to scam the money. When she makes her way back to South Korea she finds that her beloved house now belongs to Lee Young-jae (Rain), a top South Korean actor. They strike a marriage contract and Ji-eun cooks and cleans to pay off her debt. Since it is not a "real" marriage Ji-eun and Yong-jae see other people. Young-jae finally has a chance at a girl he has loved since childhood and Ji-eun finds herself pursued by the man of her dreams. But living in such close proximity starts a growing love between the two housemates.

I really liked both characters and their romance was actually perfect in its imperfection. It did, at times, feel like we were seeing and repeating the same cycles again and again and it got a little frustrating - that is why I did not rate it higher. I had comments on and noticed a lot of the comments were around that as well - that it repeated scenarios too much. I thought it took a deep look at love and what the heart wants. Someone can have all the right elements and your brain says pick that one but the heart may go a completely different direction. I thought it would be a simple, sweet, story and it really wasn't simple at all. It was also somewhat of a period piece as you can tell, based on some more recent dramas, that relationships are changing. He was almost obsessive compulsive about cleaning as it seemed they cleaned everything every day regardless.

I liked this
wheatley-2023021 September 2022
But my wife hated it. She thought it was "rubbish" and her criticisms are hard to refute. The acting is not always of the high standard that I expect from Korean drama. Plus the central relationship does not ring true, with love blossoming regardless of the myriad reasons for hatred to be the primary response!

But for me that central relationship was sufficiently interesting to keep me watching and the lead actress offered enough for me to root for her through her travails.

I guess it depends on how much you like a romantic story line and I am a sucker for a good romance! So I know this could have been better, but I still liked it.

The most mentally and emotionally abusive K-Drama i've seen
cwscooby-6754517 March 2020
I simply do not understand all the love for this. To see it so highly recommended as a K-drama that must be seen is absurd. For 16 hours the leading man does nothing but berate, belittle, scream at, and make the leading lady do forced labor. What's worse is the leading lady puts up with every petulant tantrum the leading man throws and calls it love. The man literally delivers death to her heart by a thousand little cuts and she is willing to cast aside a man who would offer her love and stability to keep taking the mental and emotional abuse. For a majority of the series the leading man only has eyes for his one lady...and it's not the heroine. Just when the leading man starts to display a glimmer of humanity, it is literally obliterated in the next breath by him screaming or telling the heroine how stupid she is. Her reaction is to laugh it off every.single.time.

Not only are the main characters glorifying a toxic relationship but the secondary characters are positively abhorrent. The drama starts off with the heroine having everything taken from her by people purported to be her "best friends". Through an an elaborate ruse they steal her house, her belongings, and her life savings but when in need she still runs to them for help and blindly trusts everything they say and do. These "friends" neither respect anybody nor do they have any redeeming quality in the story.

As a K-drama addict this was only the second one i've viewed that I wish I could scrub from my brain and pretend it never existed...the other Meteor Garden...which also glorified abuse as love.

A great K-drama!
felicia_rainyday20 December 2005
This is a great starter for those who are interested in K-drama, or looking for a light, romance-comedy drama.. It's about this girl, Ji-Eun, an aspiring script-writer, who inherited this house named Full House(also the title of the drama) from her parents. Later, her friends cheated her and sold her house while she was having a vacation in China. During her vacation she met this superstar, Young-Jae who coincidently the one whom Ji-Eun's friends sold her house to. It'll later get all complicated and leads to a marriage contract between them. Ji-Eun will then falls for Young-Jae who's in love with his childhood friend, Hae-Won who is in love with their other friend, Min-Hyuk who likes Ji-Eun. It looks kinda complicated, but it's quite easy to understand, really... A two-thumbs up for this K-drama, mainly because of the chemistry between the two main leads, Rain and Song Hye Kyo as Young-Jae and Ji-Eun. A word of caution to those who are new to k-dramas... This will definitely hook you to other k-dramas, and you'll be left to wanting more k-dramas.. You have been warned.... (^^)

Great Comedy
hasitha-4067416 November 2017
Happy Opening and happy Ending. between these two, there are a big tragedy. However, the director tries to make audience aware of pleasure through fiction scenes and Actors/Actress. That's amazing skill. and also the period ran in very short. I believe that's the secret to etch this drama in our heart forever. and also the song has very charm lyric. wow. I really love it. Thank you all. This is excellent masterpiece.

Three little bears

A ditzy girl becomes involved with an arrogant actor after her friends sell her house to him behind her back. A fluffy romantic comedy which is well worth a viewing if only for the rendition of three bears by the adorable Song Hye-Kyo.

First drama to watch if you are new to this genre
p_h_bored17 August 2022
Funny, cute, lovable, heart breaking and entertaining, I have lost count on the number of times I have watched Full House, its a classic! However do watch it without any judgement as this is before the maturity came in the audience on the kind of relationships they need to promote in dramas. This drama has blackmailing and lot of bullying which is unacceptable and has that classic push and pull love triangle dynamics which is common in most KDs. So I recommend this to first timers to get the KD vibe early. Oh yes 10/10, like I said I have lost the count of the times I have watched this one.

I tried
TheodoraEh17 November 2023
Well, I tried. It's a famous classic so I figured I owe it to Kdramas to watch it. Plus, some old classics are still amazing.

Well this one unfortunately wasn't for me. I didn't mind that it looked old etc but I think and hope I wouldn't have liked it back in the day either. Because the trope of "mean guy with a heart of gold" is one of the reasons women get into abusive relationships, or just plain fall for the wrong guy. And in this one it is constant.

I don't know who enjoys watching couples fight literally all the time, but not me. Maybe the few seconds they make up and show their "true colors" make it worth it for some people, and yes it can be cute but then going back to constant bickering, yelling and mean comments, I have no idea how people enjoy it.

I watched it on higher speed up to ep 10 so I really tried, until I thought "Why am I doing this to myself". The main reason was how cute Rain is but most importantly how it's the first time ever I enjoyed Song Hye-kyo's acting. She was lively and expressive, a whole different picture to what I've seen in her most recent work, and which I really don't like. But at least now I can see why she got so famous, when she wants to she can be great.

Also, she's the cutest thing I've ever seen in this drama, breathtakingly beautiful!! Not that she's not right now too of course but I'd never seen her this young.

oh the cute, how it hurts my face
aiturnizzle7 August 2006
I'm only a third of the way through this series, but i can't help but comment, for i simply CANNOT get over how undeniably lovable this drama is.

I'm not the type of person who watches romance dramas as they just don't interest me, but i went against my better judgement simply because i'd heard all my friends raving about this show. And wow, was i ever impressed.

The story is essentially simple in its premise but has been made interesting by adding a mix of wit, slapstick humour and a great cast. I am not particularly a Rain fan and have never seen Song Hye-Kyo in anything previous to watching this show, but i was greatly impressed with their acting and the chemistry they shared.

I found myself from being completely non-plussed by the whole drama to start off with, to constantly giggling and squeeing at the television; a reaction that has rarely happened in all the years i've been watching TV dramas.

The only thing holding me back from giving it a 10/10 is the horrid wardrobe Yeong-Jae sports. I can't remember how many times i balked at the screen because he walked into the scene wearing yet another low-cut, cleavage revealing top and ridiculously mismatched pants, but i'm sure i would have made myself thoroughly hammered if i'd made a drinking game out of it ;D

Rain's man cleavage aside, this is a wonderful drama to watch; i'd definitely recommend it :)

i like this movie
yipingsng22 August 2005
this movie is really a romantic one.. rain act as leeyoungjae in the show.. he is an actor.. who is quite stubborn, proud, and like to shout at the others.. but he is also a caring and cute man.. but he hide those personalities.. he was too afraid to show it..

song hyekyo make a change in this movie.. she always act as a weak girl in her pass movie.. and in this movie she act as a sweet, cute, sunshine, brave, and adorable girl.. and i think the quarrel between rain and song hye kyo make this movie interesting.. when i first saw this movie and laugh a lot.. but when the movie is approaching the end , i cry a lot.. it is a interesting and a touching movie... i love rain since i watch this movie..

try to but it and enjoy the every part of the movie p.s.:i started to learn and to love Korea since i watch this movie.. this movie really changed my life... and i also learned the cute song about three bear since i watch this movie..

just watch it and u will love it.. a romantic story happen between a strange girl and a star.. and the chemical reaction really happen.. just like Cinderella and the handsome prince..

i just love it..

Possibly one of the worst K-Dramas ever
Full House is possibly one of the worst Korean dramas ever made and definitely the worst one that I've seen so far. The basic premise had potential, but the execution of it is awful.

The two lead characters constantly argue with each other and call each other various names, the story line doesn't seem to go anywhere, some of the other characters in the series are greatly unlikable, the music is annoying and some of the clothing choices are horrendous. There is very little humour to be found in this series and so it ends up being quite bleak. I had to struggle to get through this series, whereas I've never felt that way with other shows.

If you want to see a better romance/comedy series, try: Boys Over Flowers, Cinderella and Four Knights, Flower Boy Ramen Shop or Reply 1997.

Extremely repetitive, same plot every episode
hanalisss17 January 2021
I cant believe the high rating this show has, I mean its a lighthearted drama, with the potential of being entertaining but there is a point ( I think from episode 5/6) where the same arguments and same exact plot happens at least twice in every single episode, literally. So it becomes very repetitive and boring, you could skip at least 2 episodes each time you watch one and you wouldn't miss one single thing.

Dangerous normalisation of emotional and psychological abuse.
rebeccakool10 July 2018
The idea that an emotionally abusive, narcissistic (who has a semi-nude picture of himself in blue neon in his bedroom???!!) and infantile man can be thought of as "attractive" whilst playing out his insecurities through verbal abuse and put-downs of a woman he calls his wife (whether under contract) is a terrifying reflection of the normalisation of domestic and general abuse of women in this society.

I could not get past the ugliness of those scenes and the manner in which Rain berates the Jeu Ein by calling her bird brain, chicken, rice cooker, vacuum cleaner etc. whilst telling her more than once in the show that she would never make it as a writer and it was best not to tire out her bird brain by putting so much effort into her writing! Cutesy kindergarten antics aside, media writers need to recognise that they bear a responsibility in society to put the right message across. Verbal psychological and emotional abuse is not romantic. It is not attractive. In extreme cases, it destroys lives and families.

There is nothing romantic about putting down a woman who has nothing but her dreams left. Take that away, and in real life, you will find the cause of suicidal ideation in many women subjected to this constant abuse. They begin to believe such things about themselves. What these put-downs are telling these women are that they are inferior, stupid and useless and not deserving of their lives. One day, these women begin to believe these destructive messages, and when they do, they will self-destruct on a psychological, intellectual and emotional level.

There are in fact, laws against such abuse. The message that should be communicated is that the damage that such constant put-downs cause is immeasurable and is nothing less than extreme emotional abuse amounting to harassment, which is illegal, and should be prosecuted and punished in every case.

I am the mother of a beautiful, intelligent and talented young woman who was once told by a very expensive private male teacher that he would 'cut his head off' if someone so "stupid" could make it to high school in the express stream and, with that expression, destroyed in one stroke, the validation of her efforts and hardwork, her confidence and self-respect which we, as her parents, had painstakingly built up over the years.

I am so thankful that we came to know of this abuse when we had to deal with my very distraught (then) 12 year old daughter, who trusted us enough to come to us with her pain, and that we were given a chance to step in as parents, fire the teacher, re-build our daughter's confidence with unconditional love and unswerving faith in her, and convince her of how precious she was by validating her self-worth over and over again (for the next 8 years - to date).

I am pleased to say that my happy ending is that my little girl not only went on to express stream high school, she has also since come into her own, as a Cum Laude scholar in a top law school in Europe, who has since picked up a completely foreign language and is competing with local students on a native level, and winning. I am still waiting for that teacher's head!

Imagine, the damage and the loss of potential, had we not known of what had happened? Imagine what could have happened if, we had not known of her loss of confidence and then added to the injury by scolding our little girl for a drop in grades? I dread to think of what my sensitive and fragile little girl could have done to herself.

This drama left a particularly bad taste in my mouth, even more so, when the leading lady overlooked all that abuse to go back to the abuser, thinking that her love will change him. Does that sound familiar? The message that should have been responsibly put out is what I am leaving all women who have experienced this sort of abuse or worse need to know: "Leopards don't change their spots. Their spots only get LARGER! GET YOUR KIDS, GET OUT, STAY OUT!"
