Hand Of God: a rare misfire from Amazon Studios
facebook

twitter

google+

With Transparent, Bosch and more picking up plaudits, Amazon Studios' Hand Of God, feat. Ron Perlman, feels like a rare mis-step...

Amazon Studios have had a pretty good year. Comedy drama Transparent has become an awards darling, and holds the distinction of being the first series shown on a streaming video service to win the Golden Globe for Best Series. The recent release of other popular shows including Mozart In The Jungle and Bosch has cemented their place as a rival to Netflix and other streaming services currently producing their own content.

Unlike their rivals, Amazon Studios let the audience have a major role in choosing what content they produce – each year Amazon orders a series of pilots, and it is down to audience viewing figures as to what shows are picked up for a full series run. Sometimes this system works, and other times it...

Recap: 'American Idol' Season 14 - Top 12 Performances and an Elimination
Jennifer Lopez
Sorry about the delay, kids. I had to be doing PaleyFest 2015 red carpet coverage for Starz's "Outlander," so I was talking about wedding nights and spankings and I missed doing my normal Eastern Time "American Idol" live-blog. And, in fact, I got home nearly 20 minutes into the Pacific Time airing of "Idol." So let's play a game and see how quickly I'm able to catch up with the live broadcast... Follow through for my full recap of Thursday's (March 12) Top 12 performances and the first solo elimination of the season. 8:00 p.m. (in show time, but 8:24 in my time) Fortunately, I remember last night, so I can trim a minute off here. 8:01 p.m. I missed last night's Top 12 Party because of timing. I'm just missing everything. 8:02 p.m. I can't fast-forward through Ryan Seacrest, because he's going to explain the show. Also, I can't miss the Jennifer Lopez Fashion Show.

Contest: Win a WolfCop Prize Pack, Including a Blu-ray Copy, Flask, Signed Poster, Comic Book & More
Imagine if high school student Scott Howard from Teen Wolf grew up, traded his letter jacket for a police uniform, and became a barely functioning alcoholic. Sound interesting? Then you'll likely dig Lowell Dean’s WolfCop, a creature feature with a wicked sense of humor that's packed with blood-soaked practical effects. Today, Image Entertainment unleashed WolfCop on Blu-ray and DVD, and to celebrate the release, they've provided us with two prize packs to give away to a couple of lucky Daily Dead readers. The grand prize contains a Blu-ray copy of the film, a flask (to go with the bottoms up spirit of Lou Garou), a signed poster featuring WolfCop sprawled out on his own human skin, and more.

"Officer Lou Garou isn’t the best cop in small-town Woodhaven – in fact, he’s probably the worst. He mostly just looks to avoid anything that could possibly interfere with his goal of getting wasted.

'WolfCop' Movie Review
Reviewed by Robert J. Thompson II

WolfCop (2014)

Written and directed by Lowell Dean (13 Eerie) and starring Leo Fafard (Corner Gas: The Movie), Amy Matysio (Lawrence & Holloman), Jonathan Cherry (Final Destination 2), Aidan Devine (Outlander) and Sarah Lind (Severed).

This weekend has been dubbed “Werewolf Weekend”, as I have not one, but two movies to review, that just both happen to be werewolves. I wasn't sure what to expect, when I was asked if I wanted to review WolfCop. Any werewolf movie immediately has my attention, but this just had 'cheesy schlock film' written all over it. It just raised a whole lot of questions in my mind, and I wasn't certain I'd be able to give it a good review, let alone finish the thing.

However, WolfCop is a perfect example of why you shouldn't judge too harshly, before giving something a chance. Was it cheesy? Absolutely. Was it schlocky?...

Looking back at the Wing Commander movie
The movie adaptation of the hit Wing Commander videogame series came out in 1999. We find out whether time's been kind to it...

Feature

It’s easy to forget just how greatly visual effects shifted in the late 1990s. Techniques that had survived more-or-less unchanged since the dawn of cinema - scale models, matte paintings, stop-motion, to name a few - were suddenly joined by a new generation of jaw-dropping computer graphics.

Such groundbreaking movies as Tron, Young Sherlock Holmes and The Abyss paved the way, but the digital revolution pretty much exploded in the 1990s, starting with the eye-popping morph effects of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the dinosaur shots in Jurassic Park and the CG-assisted bullet time of The Matrix in 1999.

In the midst of the CG revolution sweeping through cinemas by the close of the decade - as seen in The Matrix and the year’s other gargantuan release,...

Sophia Myles Set For Transformers 4
Sophia Myles
She’s more usually found in the indie or romantic drama world, but Sophia Myles is no stranger to dipping into sci-action fare with roles in films like Underworld, Outlander and (whisper it) Thunderbirds. Now Myles is about to take her biggest leap into blockbuster territory by signing on to co-star in Transformers 4.Her role is being kept quiet, though The Wrap has ferreted out that she’ll be a scientist, and a major supporting part of a cast that already includes Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz and recent addition Kelsey Grammer.Ehren Kruger is back writing this one, which is set after the devastating events of Dark Of The Moon with the Transformers largely gone from the planet. When some foolish government types decide to exploit Cybertronian technology to craft new weapons, they awaken the interest of an ancient robo-threat and Optimus Prime and the gang must...

British Lovely Sophia Myles Will Class Up Transformers 4
Looks like Michael Bay has decided to classed up his latest transforming robots from outer space movie with British actress Sophia Myles, an honest to goodness actress who was last seen on TV as the lead in the vampire show “Moonlight” and the Brit spy show “Mi-5″, though some may recall her from the Kate Beckinsale franchise “Underworld” and “Outlander” with Jim Caviezel. Myles joins new franchise leading man Mark Wahlberg on “Transformers 4″, which would find Wahlberg playing a military badass type who, along with his daughter (Nicola Peltz) and her boyfriend (Jack Reynor) will run afoul of human bad guy Kelsey Grammer and, of course, a slew of dangerous transforming robots from outer space out to enslave all of humanity and whatnot. It’s a good thing for them that the Autobots are still around to lend a hand. Myles’ role in the film is murky, but she...

Jim Caviezel in Outlander: Guerreiro vs Predador (2008)
Ronald D. Moore Adapting Outlander
Jim Caviezel in Outlander: Guerreiro vs Predador (2008)
The last time that Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling fantasy romance book series Outlander flared on our development radar, it was back in 2008, when Randall Wallace was hired to bring it to the big screen for Essential Pictures. Or at least, that was the plan. That version seemingly vanished into the mire, but now Spartacus-producing cable network Starz has picked up the rights, with Battlestar Galactica’s Ronald D. Moore overseeing the writing. This should not be confused with either the Jim Caviezel-starring sci-fi film or the Sean Connery-starring sci-fi film. Outlander, the first novel, launched a seven-book series, which will add another tome next year. It focuses on Claire, a married World War II combat nurse sent back in time to the Scottish wilds circa 1743.Dropped into a world of adventure and mystery, she’s forced to marry Jamie, a romantic Scottish warrior, and finds herself torn between...

Ronald D. Moore To Adapt 'Outlander' Novels To Series
Life after "Battlestar Galactica" may now continue for Ronald D. Moore. The acclaimed developer and executive producer of the signature Syfy series is set to take on a fantasy romance project based on the "Outlander" novel series from author Diana Gabaldon. It's a project that Sony Pictures Television expects to pitch to cable networks as early as this week, according to Deadline.com. "Outlander," which is not related to the 2008 film flop that starred Jim Caviezel, was first released in 1991 by Gabaldon, and involves an accidental time-travelling World War II combat nurse who lands in 18th century Scottish Highlands. The nurse, Claire, is forced to marry a warrior, which creates a love triangle that only science-fiction could tell. It was the first in a series of seven, which in ...

Trailer for Transit Starring Jim Caviezel
Just last week, it was announced that Joel Silver's Dark Castle Home Entertainment and Courtney Solomon's After Dark Films were joining forces on a new action movie franchise titled "After Dark Action," which kicks off with five movies to be shown theatrically as a "commercial film festival" before hitting VOD on May 11th. Now, the first trailer for the first of the After Dark Action movies, Transit, has been released online.

Written by Michael Gilvary (According to Greta) and directed by Antonio Negret (Seconds Apart), Transit stars Jim Caviezel (Outlander) as Nate Sidwell, an ex-con attempting to restore his relationship with his family by taking them on a camping trip only to become a pawn in a game of "cops and robbers" with $4 million — and his family's lives — on the line. Diora Baird (30 Days of Night: Dark Days), James Frain (HBO's True Blood), Elisabeth Rohm (Abduction), and Harold Perrineau,...

The top 25 cult film actors
They may not be household names like their A-list colleagues, but the actors on this list have appeared in some of our all-time favourite geek movies...

Some actors dabble in sci-fi; others dip their toe into fantasy; some may even make an appearance in the odd horror film - all before returning to the safety of the genres in which they feel more comfortable - perhaps a nice, award-chasing period drama, or a well-paid romantic comedy.

A-listers may see the geeky films that we on this site enjoy and celebrate as fun little side-projects, but there are actors out there who commit full-time to these types of movies. It is high time, therefore, that we credited these individuals with the recognition they deserve.

Besides the stipulation that, in order to be included, an actor had to still be alive and working today, there were no strict criteria that had to...

Patrulheiros do Espaço (1985)
From vikings to ninjas, here are five wild alien-invasion films that don't involve cowboys
Patrulheiros do Espaço (1985)
In "Cowboys & Aliens," director Jon Favreau pits a posse of gunslingers against an extraterrestrial invasion force straight out of a sci-fi nightmare. In many ways, it's a new twist on an old classic, as those pesky creatures from outer space have been wreaking Hollywood havoc for years now, and gtheir efforts definitely haven't been confined to the Old West.

From the age of vikings to the far-flung future, alien invasions have been thwarted by a long list of unlikely defenders from Earth -- many of them even more ill-equipped than the "Cowboys & Aliens" cast. Don't believe me? Here are five examples of films that feature entirely unexpected saviors of the planet we call home.

"Outlander" (2008)

Pre-dating all of the gunslinging and dynamite of "Cowboys & Aliens," this 2008 film features a battle between Norsemen circa 709 A.D. and a monstrous alien that crashed near their village. While the movie didn't receive much attention,...

13 dark fantasy films to watch while you wait for Conan
The fantasy genre has gotten a bad rep over the years and I think I know why. Too many factions of role players, larpers and W.O.W-ers have joined forces over the world wide web to become this massive, unstoppable goliath of an easy target. What was once little groups of in-the-know outcasts playing Magic in highschool hallways is so visible that they've turned it into an easy punchline for bad comedians and films like Role Models or Your Highness to take a stab at. But That's just my theory.

The other downside to fantasy's perceived dorkery is I think it's led to a slowing down of mainstream fantasy film production and the films that do get made that fully embrace their fantasy roots either get savages by critics or dumped onto SyFy. Lord of the Rings is really the only series of films I can think of that got through unscathed.

Jim Caviezel claims to be a Hollywood outcast after playing Jesus in "The Passion of the Christ"
Actor Jim Caviezel is claiming that, after playing Jesus in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, he has become somewhat of an outcast in Hollywood. Judging by movies like Outlander and The Stoning of Soraya M., he may not be exaggerating. Caviezel was in Florida over the weekend, promoting his new audio book of the Bible, Words of Promise, and told the 14,000-capacity First Baptist Church of Orlando that director Mel Gibson had warned him, "You'll never work in this town again," referring to Caviezel taking on the role. And his apparent rejoinder was, "We all have to embrace our crosses." Caviezel was gaining a reputation as an emerging talent after appearing in movies like The Thin Red Line, Frequency, and The Count of Monte Cristo. Then he teamed up with Gibson for The Passion, and though the film ended up making [...]...

Jim Caviezel's Hollywood Golgotha
The Passion of the Christ actor has complained Hollywood shunned him after he played Jesus – but was it really because his performance was so definitive?

If Jim Caviezel is to be believed, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a jobbing actor to play Jesus and continue to eat lunch in Hollywood. Caviezel, so far as most filmgoers are concerned, was last seen being laboriously flayed and nailed in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ. Since then, he claims, he's been "rejected by my industry" and exiled to such little-seen pictures as Outlander that is billed, rather poignantly, as an Sf thriller in which a space alien eats up some 8th-century Vikings. It's hard not to see a film like Outlander as an actor's own personal Golgotha.

Speaking at the First Baptist Church of Orlando last week, Caviezel said...

'Passion Of The Christ' Star: Hollywood Has 'Rejected' Me For Playing Jesus
Mel Gibson at an event for O Fim da Escuridão (2010)
The man who played Jesus Christ in Mel Gibson's much criticized "Passion of the Christ," says the role has been his "cross to bear," and that Hollywood has shunned him ever since making the film.

Jim Caviezel, who, before taking the role of Jesus, was a rising Hollywood star with strong reviews for his work in "Frequency," and "The Thin Red Line," told an audience at First Baptist Church of Orlando on Saturday that Gibson begged him to reconsider taking the gig.

"He said, 'You'll never work in this town again,'" Caviezel remembered. "I told him, 'We all have to embrace our crosses.'"

Caviezel recounted a similar story in 2004, when he spoke of the encounter in an interview with the 700 Club.

"The next day, he said, 'I want you to be aware of what you are going to go through. You may never work again.' He said that several times publicly.

It seems like ages since we saw Jim Caviezel on our screens – he was last spotted as a man who lands on Earth during Viking times and helps battle the alien invader that arrives with him in Outlander – but now he’s snagged the lead in historical drama Savannah. This one will see him fighting 100% fewer extraterrestrial nasties, but does see him paired up with the excellent Chiwetel Ejiofor for the tale of real-life 1900s aristocrat Ward Allen.Talking to a local Georgia website, writer/director Annette Haywood-Carter described the basics: “It’s a story about this very eccentric, bigger-than-life hunter named Ward Allen and his friendship with a freed slave named Christmas Moultrie. This is the perfect movie for Savannah because it really showcases the city’s eccentric characters.”Inspired by John Eugene Cay Jr’s book Duck, Dogs and Friends, the film will also feature Hal Holbrook, The West Wing’s Bradley Whitford,...

The historical epics set to besiege your cinema
Get your swords and sandals ready – there’s a legion of historical epic movies on the way. Here’s Ti’s round-up…

Since Ridley Scott resurrected the swords and sandals genre with Gladiator in 2000, the historical epic has grown more and more popular. With massive budgets, thousands of extras and battle scenes that try to top each other year after year, the historical epic has become a regular feature in cinemas over the last ten decade, with Troy, Kingdom Of Heaven, Alexander, Robin Hood, Mongol, 300, King Arthur, The Last Legion, Pathfinder, Beowulf, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and Clash Of The Titans all vying for our attention.

This year is no different, and with Michael Mann rumoured to be directing an adaptation of Bernard Cornwall's account of the Battle of Agincourt, Sharpe, it looks set to continue. We've already seen the likes of Robin Hood, Solomon Kane, Centurion, Clash Of The Titans,...

Spotlight: Simon Northwood's next stunt
Simon Northwood can take a hit, and now he wants to star in one. The 42-year-old British-born Torontonian is an established movie and TV stuntman — 300, Outlander, 'Flashpoint' — but he's also an actor.

However, it isn’t easy convincing filmmakers that the guy who throws himself off a building can also deliver killer dialogue. “When you are a stunt performer you get really pegged into, ‘Well, he’s just a stunt guy, he doesn’t practice acting,’” says Northwood on the line from the Toronto home he shares with his wife and son. “So you just hope the casting agents will have an imagination.”

The producers of this month's Saw 3D had such vision, casting him as the leader of a Swat team. “It’s my job to lead the six guys through the catacombs where all the people are being held. We are going room to room to room,...

Jack Huston is popping up all over. Who is this guy? Any relation to Angelica, Danny, John, or Walter? Well, it turns out, all of the above. Now the actor is shooting a British crime comedy with Ray Winstone and Colm Meaney called The Hot Potato, the first film directed by vet sound editor Tim Lewiston (he also wrote and produced). You might have glimpsed Huston in HBO's Boardwalk Empire (Richard Harrow) or ABC's Eastwick (an eight episode arc through 2009-2010). Katherine Heigl May Time Travel For Love In Outlander
There has already been a movie called Outlander, starring Jim Caviezel as an alien landing on earth during the time of the Vikings. The first thing you should know about the potential Katherine Heigl project Outlander is that it is not a remake of the alien movie, but an entirely separate adaptation of a novel by Diana Gabaldon. With that out of the way, here's what we know. The news comes by way of a New York Times article that's basically a damage control effort to tell us that Heigl is not the prissy, demanding diva she's been made out to be all these years. I'm not sure the article does such a great job of proving that-- one line of the article notes "Years of rejection on the Los Angeles auditioning circuit hardened her, friends and associates say"-- but it at least gives us the news that Heigl...

The five men who could be Superman
With rumours flying around about who’s in line to play the Man of Steel, here are five actors we think could be perfect for the role of Superman…

The casting for the new Superman film has been discussed ever since Christopher Nolan announced he would be 'overseeing its production'. Since then, names have been bandied around such as Zachary Levi (Chuck) and John Hamm (Mad Men), but both have seemingly turned out to be false.

Casting Superman is a tricky task, as not only do you need an actor that can pull of the Man of Steel look, but you also need someone who can be the mild-mannered alter ego, Clark Kent.

Brandon Routh managed to do a good job in the last film, Superman Returns, but many felt it was too much of a tribute to Christopher Reeve. Despite a measure of fan support, it is unlikely Routh will return to the role,...

When the criminals stash their stolen money in the family’s SUV at a rest stop, the road trippers, with Caviezel as the protective father, unwittingly draw the murderous band of outlaws on their trail.”

So, like we mentioned, Caviezel will play the father of the family unwittingly caught up with the robbers while James Frain has also been cast as a member of the gang...

By Crom! Ron Perlman is Conan’s daddy!
There’s no getting around the fact that Ron Perlman has what it takes to play a barbarian. In fact, if you have any doubts just rent Howard McCain’s Outlander where he plays the big burly leader of a Viking clan. Add in the trailers for the upcoming Season of the Witch where he’s spearing wolves and monsters next to Nicolas Cage, and he seems like the perfect person to play the father of Robert E. Howard’s greatest creation, Conan the Barbarian. I prefer Perlman to Mickey Rourke, who was originally slated to take the role.

What happened there is that Tarsem Singh’s Dawn of War (the myth epic formerly known as War of the Gods) pulled in Rourke, and then Perlman signed on for the role of Corin, Conan’s dad. He’ll be playing papa to Jason Momoa, the Hawaiian model who’s stepping...

Ron Perlman
Ron Perlman Is Conan Snr.
Ron Perlman
Mickey Rourke was in, then he was out, and then he was in again. But now it seems he's walked away from Marcus Nispel's Conan for good, some say in favour of Tarsem Singh's War of the Gods (possibly aka Dawn of War). But fear not. Once more into the fantasy movie breach steps Ron Perlman. Which, given that Conan is shooting in Bulgaria like now, must come as something as a relief to all concerned.Conan, of course, will by no means be new territory for the man who in the last three years alone has turned out for In the Name of the King, Hellboy 2, Outlander, The Mutant Chronicles and Season of the Witch. He's recently been busy with his TV biker drama Sons of Anarchy. Good job Corin is just a supporting role then (a very small one in the original Conan the Barbarian, filled by actor,...

Hellboy Replaces Whiplash as Conan’s Daddy
Via NYMag’s Vulture blog, it looks like Mickey Rourke is out as Conan’s father in the “Conan” reboot, and Hellboy himself, Ron Perlman is in. Anyone who has seen last year’s “Outlander” already knows that Perlman is going to make a pretty damn convincing barbarian warrior. Or, er, Cimmerian, according to the Conan mythos. Perlman would play Corin, Conan’s dad, who is killed when our hero is young, thus setting him off on a path of vengeance against bad guy Khalar Singh. The latest word on Singh has “Avatar’s” Stephen Lang in the running for the part. More certain is that Jason Momoa of “Stargate: Atlantis” is the new Conan, while “G.I. Joe’s” Rachel Nichols is his hot-to-trot lady love interest. Marcus Nispel, Hollywood’s go-to guy for franchise reboots, will direct “Conan”.

The Overlooked: Aliens vs. Vikings in ‘Outlander’
Aliens vs. Vikings. That series of words will likely cause one of two reactions. Either you roll your eyes and hit the back button or part of you cheers inside, hoping against hope that it’s not going to be another Sci-Fi Channel “original”.

If you fall into that second camp, there’s a good chance you and I share a common memory. It’s a memory of the local video rental joint circa 1980 to 1990. Not just before Netflix, but before Blockbuster too. I’m talking pre-dvd here!

I’m not old enough yet that I can’t remember wandering through just such a place in my youth;arms piled up beyond carrying capacity with vhs display boxes that looked like they were hard-bound copies of Moby Dick. Those titles? Clash of the Titans, Dragonslayer, Excalibur, Legend and in one unfortunate instance, Yor: Hunter from the Future.

I’d stare...

The Overlooked: Jami Winan’s ‘Ink’ is a treat for fantasy fans
God Bless Jami Winans and his filmmaking team.

Their indie effort ‘Ink’, a fantastical mish-mash of children’s bedtime stories, surrealistic imagery and sci-fi action is an honest to goodness sleeper. You won’t see it, or its emotional impact, coming. It’s been some time since a film this low budget achieved so much in regards to what ends up on screen. The world of Ink is like 80’s Spielberg meets Terry Gilliam by way of Neil Gaiman. At the same time, it has originality and heart. Plenty of that last one.

Most of the film is set in an invisible world that exists underneath our own. While the physical realm sleeps, the ethereal ‘Storytellers’ (who are envisioned as an ethnically diverse group of grungy punks) roam the night planting happiness, hope, encouragement and solace in the dreams of humanity.

Behind them, sometimes trailing and sometimes stalking are the subversive and malicious Incubi,...

Outlander: Somehow, Unfortunately, Low-Budget Beowulf + Aliens Isn't Awesome
I criticized the Korean monster flick The Host as a movie that understood its genre but didn't add much of its own. The same can be said of Howard McCain's 2008 movie Outlander, which takes an unbeatable premise -- Beowulf with intersteller alien monsters playing the part of Grendel -- and turns out a movie that's little more than watchable. The basic problem is that this is a ridiculous movie that doesn't realize it's ridiculous, so it finds a mediocre middle road sidestepping the poles of hilariously over-the-top and hilariously inept. It's as if Sam Raimi made Army of Darkness (rating:80) but then took out all the jokes. The charisma-impaired Jim Caviezel doesn't help matters as the space-traveling Beowulf, though John Hurt and Ron Perlman spice things up as warring Viking chieftains. The overearnest script doesn't help matters either, with lines...

'Lobo' Test Has Been Filmed, Says Producer Joel Silver
Fans at next year’s San Diego Comic-Con International may get the first opportunity to see what Guy Ritchie’s big screen adaptation of “Lobo” will look like. Producer Joel Silver has revealed that a “Lobo” test was recently filmed with the annual pop culture event in mind.

“We’re working on ‘Lobo’ now,” said Silver during an interview with Collider. “I was looking at a test we made and I was seeing it through the eyes of [the San Diego] Comic-Con — through the eyes of that audience. It’s important to know that that audience is the biggest in the world. That’s the audience that you want to get.”

Back in September, Jeffery Dean Morgan — perhaps best known to comic fans as The Comedian in Zack Snyder’s adaptation of “Watchmen” — stated that he wants to portray Lobo while on the set of his most recent film, “The Losers.” However, Morgan...

Jim Caviezel: 'At Least I Had Thirty Years of Normality'
As Jim Caviezel told me quite a few times last week, Hollywood's got a short memory, and an actor tends to be offered nothing but variations on his last big part -- a tall order, if that role was playing Jesus Christ. Since acting in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ in 2004, Caviezel hasn't necessarily been an easy actor to cast, and some of his larger projects -- like the sci-fi adventure Outlander, which was shunted off by the Weinstein Company -- haven't provided the big bump he hoped for. AMC's miniseries remake of The Prisoner, however, falls right into his wheelhouse: Not only is it getting a splashy, three-night release beginning in the spot just vacated by Mad Men, but Caviezel's role plays to his strengths, casting him as a lone man in a world that doesn't understand him (save for a few acolytes convinced by his...

'Lobo' Casting Poll Names James Preston Rogers Fans' Favorite Czarnian
The poll results are arriving a day late this week due to yesterday's glut of comic book movie news, but we're not ones to complain about a good thing when it comes to updates on projects like "Thor," "Iron Man 2" and "Spider-Man 4." However, it's an entirely different sort of comic book movie that we asked fans to cast last week—and much like our Wonder Woman poll from a while back, the winner of our "Lobo" casting poll has a loyal fan following that played no small part in determining the winner.

In the end, former "Thor" hopeful James Preston Rogers was named MTV readers' favorite choice for the role of DC's Main Man, Lobo. The musclebound actor is probably best known for his role as a hulking barbarian in the vikings-vs-aliens film "Outlander," but he was also the subject of an extremely active fan campaign to cast him...

Outlander: DVD review
Director: Howard McCain. Review: Adam Wing. Sometimes, all you need after a long day at work is a big, dumb popcorn movie. Outlander didn’t perform particularly well at the box office, nor did it impress the film critics on initial release, but if this cheesy sci-fi monster mash up was ever going to find a home, surely DVD was the place to be. When Kainen (Jim Caviezel), the lone survivor from a far off planet, crashes on Earth in the Iron Age, he brings with him a creature of unimaginable horror. Or at least, that’s the general idea. The wobbly CGI doesn’t do the film justice at times but hey, now he must join forces with the Viking locals (as you do) led by Rothgar (another great B-movie name played by John Hurt) and destroy the monstrous foe before all hell breaks loose. Jim Caviezel plays the rugged,...

Jack Huston cast as Royce King in Twilight: Eclipse
26 year old British actor Jack Huston has become the latest expansion to the cast of the third movie in The Twilight Saga franchise, Eclipse. Huston who is the nephew of Danny and Anjelica and Huston, has signed on to play the human Royce King II. In the Twilight series, Royce King is the human who is somewhat responsible for Rosalie Hale's (Nikki Reed) vampire transformation during the time of the Great Depression. The role is rather small and will only appear in flashbacks, but for Huston this is a score considering it is the biggest film he has been apart of. Huston was last seen in the Nordic Sci-fi movie, Outlander. Filming begins next month in Vancouver for the David Slade directed Eclipse which releases on June 30, 2010.
