Lee Wulff goes fishing in this Sportscope short. He is, we are told, a famous fisherman. Since he was also a director and producer of wildlife documentaries for his own company, I expect that he called up RKO shorts producer Earl Luby, and said something like "I want to go fishing in the Bahamas. Why don't you send along a film crew, and you can pay me for starring in it, and I can write it off on my taxes as a professional expense?"
Normally, I would say that watching someone fishing is not the most interesting thing in the world, because as I learned the, ahem, sport, you take a rod and reel, go to the dock, toss the line into the water, and nap until some fish has stolen your bait. Mr. Wulff, however, practices angling, where you have to use an elaborate artificial fly, and then keep tossing your line into the water and dragging it back, until some poor fish exerts itself into grabbing for it. Then you fight the fish. Mr. Wulff has made it fairer by using a very lightweight rod that he has to handle very carefully lest the rod snap and the fish escape.
I think it's easier to go into a supermarket fish department, but they won't make a movie about that.
