Sex & Nudity

- Pi spends most of the movie without a shirt, although it is nothing sexual. He is stuck on a raft in the middle of the ocean under a hot sun by the way.
- Ladies in bikinis (basically) seen at swimming pools.
- Pi is momentarily distracted by some girls (one in particular) doing a ritual dance to the Hindu gods. It's implied he begins to date one of them, we see them sitting and talking together at different points of the movie.
- Pi urinates on the lifeboat to mark his territory (no nudity seen), and Richard Parker (a tiger) retaliates, spraying urine in Pi's face, his bare backside and genitals briefly seen.
Violence & Gore

- Pi finds a tooth on a carnivorous island
- A tiger attacks a small goat and drags it though the bars of its cage (offscreen), and we hear the goat cry in pain. The tiger is shown dragging the animal away to eat it.
- We see a cargo ship sink, presumably killing many.
- In a lifeboat, a hyena attacks and kills an obviously lame zebra, nipping on its flanks as Pi and the zebra both scream. Shown in the dark, mostly in silhouette, no blood.
- A hyena bites an orangutan on the neck and drags it out of view to kill it; a few spots of blood are shown on the deck. A tiger quickly kills the hyena, no blood or gore shown (we do hear the hyena's neck snap). The tiger tries to kill Pi but is unable to reach him. The tiger swallows a live rat whole. The tiger later snacks on a meerkat.
- The hyena appears to be coughing up / throwing up water.
- Sea sickness is mentioned in the survival guide Pi reads and Pi tries to induce sea sickness in the tiger as a means to tame it.
- We catch a brief glimpse of what appears to be a hippo being attacked by sharks. A sperm whale briefly tangles with a giant squid.
- Pi pounds a fish with the blunt side of an axe to kill it, apologizing profusely to it afterward. Some blood seen.
- Pi and the tiger fight, Pi keeps it at bay by putting a boathook in its mouth, which doesn't appear to hurt it. Pi stabs a fish with a spear, no blood.
- Pi finds a human tooth inside an acidic plant on an island, and talks about how the island literally eats living things, even animals.

- 7 uses of pissing
- Pi's full name (Piscine) sounds very similar to "pissing", and he is teased by many children who ask him, "Are you pissing?" His teachers mispronounce his name as well, calling him "pissing" in class. Some viewers may find this offensive while others find it a little amusing.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

- This is a very depressing movie.
- A boat sinks in a storm at sea.
- Very scary and intense scenes with animals fighting on the lifeboat, particularly the tiger.
- The scene towards the end, when Pi comforts the tiger by placing its head in his lap, is emotional and moving.
- In a long and intensely emotional scene, Pi describes a very violent scenario, in which a man kills two people, a body is eaten by sharks, and Pi kills the man with a knife.
Spoilers
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- Pi cries after being rescued, not because he is saved but because Richard Parker (the tiger that he spent so much time with and bonded with) disappears into the jungle without glancing back or saying goodbye.
- The adult Pi tears up as he finish telling his story to the reporter. He talks about losing his family in order to get to America. He talks about going on a long adventure with the tiger and bonding with it, only to have the tiger leave him in to then without even looking back to acknowledge their adventure.
- Pi's parents die when a ship sinks. It is very depressing, even more depressing when he keeps telling himself later on in the movie that they will soon be all together, even though he won't.
- it's subtly implied that Pi had to eat his mother in order to survive on the raft, although one can argue that he didn't. It's kind of addressed that another character cannibalized someone. These are both implied and it isn't out right said
- Pi loses most of the people that he loves, and one of the messages of this film is letting go, even if you never got the chance to say goodbye.
