Mitch Hedberg was hilarious! R.I.P.
MovieAddict201624 January 2006
Mitch Hedberg unfortunately died recently of a drug overdose (he had a weak heart), but his style of comedy was hilarious. Somewhere between Lenny Bruce and Steven Wright, Hedberg's jokes were apparently random stream-of-consciousness thoughts.

"They say 7-Up is made with lemon and lime, but there is a lot more to it than that."

"I met the girl who worked behind the counter of my hotel. She gave mer her number. It's 0. I tried to call her from here; some other woman answered. I said, 'You sound older.'"

"My hotel doesn't have a thirteenth floor because of superstition - but come on, man, you people on the fourteenth floor know what floor you're really on."

This Comedy Central presentation from 1999 displays some of Hedberg's best (albeit more watered-down and public TV-friendly) jokes. Definitely make an effort to track it down or watch it some time when it comes on Comedy Central - and also look out for Steven Wright, another underrated genius of one-liners.

Good but also a big waste.

This stand-up routine by Mitch Hedberg can be found on the DVD "The Best of Comedy Central Presents: Uncensored". Oddly, however, despite the title and a warning at the beginning of the disc, the show is pretty much PG--with very little offensive material.

I love Mitch Hedberg's comedy. Of all the comedians I have heard, his routine reminds me the most of Steven Wright's work--though instead of being quite as bizarre as Wright, he comes off as a big 'crispy'--like a druggie who is making weird observations. Sadly, this IS what seems to be the case, as Hedberg died of an overdose six years after doing this half hour show. And, because he died so young, he didn't record that many of his stand-up routines. So, apart from this and a few others, this is one of the few chances you have to see him. And, he is quite good here. Sure, a few jokes fall flat, but overall well worth seeing and weird....very, very weird.

Mitch Hedberg recently passed away and it is truly a shame because the world has lost a very intriguing standup comic. He wrote and his deliver was different from any other comic I have ever seen. This standup comic special on comedy central was truly awesome and featured some of the best Mitch Hedberg one liners he ever wrote meaning some of the best one liners in the history of standup comedy. He really was that good! If you like oddball or eccentric standup comedy or to listen to standup comics with different perspective you should definitely check out this standup special from comedy central. I give it 9 out of 10 it only lost 1 point because there were some odd camera-work and pauses in the show. The lighting could have been better but it was a great showcase of a gifted comic and his work. WE MISS YOU MITCH!

"I am going to tape this entire special NOT facing the camera"

Warning: Spoilers
Mitch Hedberg was one of the great comedians of the today, and last month, March 2005. his life was cut short, along with his career, 37 years long, many more too short. He was truly one of the best.

After hearing of his death, i quickly went out and brought the DVD of this special to help ease the depression i suddenly felt. As a principle i think that young funny people shouldnot be allowed to die young of natural causes.

However, I digress: Mitch Hedberg is great. He is the master of the one-liner and his jokes are only linked by one constant, his lazy rushed tone. With great lines like"My manager told me not to use liquor as a crutch, and i don't, because a crutch helps you walk." immediately followed by, "liquor is like a stair i do not see. it makes it harder to walk." He creates jokes within jokes, making laughter multiply.

If you can obtain it, i recommend watching both the uncut and TV edit of this, because both are excellent for separate reasons, The edit, is, predictably, the better comedy show. and it has a denser flow of laughs. However, the uncut features a multitude of great humor about how the special is "not so special" and how the special will be re edited and although you didn't laugh at this now, you will then. This humor, which often defined Mitch's live performances and cds, if in a league of its own. deprecating to everyone from Mitch to the television and live audiences.

Mitch was a master. he will be missed.

"I love you guys. Thanks for coming to my special."

This and Comedy Central Presents: Brian Regan tie for my top favorite Comedy Central Presents. Mitch Hedberg, one of the most unique stand-up comedians to ever exist at The Palace in Hollywood California, entertaining thousands of people in an auditorium. I bet he felt good what he did when he was alive. This was one of his best performances. He told his signature jokes like blocking the fire exit and Smacky the Frog. My favorite jokes of his that were in this special was the alcoholism is a disease and the Pringles can joke and the guy with a lot of cranium accessories. It has sadden tons of people of his unfortunate death, but his jokes will live on. R.I.P. Mitchell Lee Hedberg 1968-2005
