Person of Interest took its final bow these week with what viewers thought was its best episode.
Penny Dreadful, too, delivered a surprise series finale, shaking up its audience with the news.
Pretty Little Liars returned and Reign left for the season with two high-impact deaths.
Let's see if the programming had quotes worthy of the events or if other series picked up the slack!
1. Penny Dreadful Vanessa: Let it end. With a kiss. Ethan: With a kiss. With love. Vanessa: With love. 2. Person of Interest Finch: What I couldn't have anticipated was that you would become such a good friend. 3. Reign Lola [to Elizabeth]: There can only be one Queen, and I had to choose mine. 4. Outlander Murtagh: I kept my word. I lay my vengeance at your feet. 5. Hell on Wheels Brigham: Ambition resides in your heart, Mr. Bohannon. Fed by a sin of pride. That's why you choose...

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Penny Dreadful, Veep, Pretty Little Liars and Person of Interest!

Things start hot and heavy in “Queen of the South.” Bullets fly. People die. Drugs are snorted and sold. It’s clear USA wants us to know their new drama is a hard-edged show; a gritty show; a serious show. But is it a prestige drama, the accepted label for successful new entries, especially from networks new to the game? In short, no, “Queen of the South” is far from the best modern TV has to offer. But for all its amped up aesthetics, I’m not sure it even wants to be part of the club.
It certainly doesn’t want to be part of the boys’ club. Telling the story of a drug queenpin named Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga), “Queen of the South” kicks off its story via flash-forward — a wannabe shocking moment that will be easy to gloss over down the road — before delving into how a...

The werewolf film is a strange thing. You’d think, being such a well-known movie monster, that there would be millions of examples of the type. However, there is not. I’m not even saying that there aren’t a ton of examples of great werewolf films, I’m saying there are barely any werewolf films at all. A long time ago, we did an article on this site to coincide with the theatrical release of one of the Twilight sequels. It was a list of 30 films, 15 of which were werewolf films, and 15 of them were vampire films, to watch instead of seeing the new Twilight. The hardest part about finding 15 worthy vampire films, was narrowing it down to 15. The hardest part of putting together a list of 15 sold werewolf films was a different beast entirely. It was hard to put together even a list of 15 mediocre werewolf films. Sure,...

When it comes to found footage films, I’ve pretty much run the course. I’ve seen all the triple-a Hollywood titles (Blair Witch, Paranormal Activity) and nearly every straight to DVD wannabe released in the last decade: Bigfoot: The Lost Cost Tapes, Area 407, Grave Encounters 1 and 2, The Amityville Haunting and a dozen more. To put things bluntly, most of them are terrible. It’s the cheapest way to make a horror movie so it makes sense that filmmakers would flock to it and the outcome is handfuls of mediocre, jump scare ridden, terribly written, poorly acted horror movies.
I am happy to say that The Frankenstein Theory does an excellent job at avoiding those downfalls. Now while many of the advertisements you see come tagged with “from the makers of The Last Exorcism,” this is a bit of a stretch. This is Andrew Weiner’s first foray into...

The After Dark Originals news continues! We recently caught up with the lovely Rachel Miner to chat about her role as the no-nonsense Sergeant Hannah in Jason Connery’s alien thriller 51. Here’s what the horror and After Dark veteran had to say!
“I really enjoyed Sergeant Hannah because she was a very strong woman which was a lot of fun to play,” says the actress. “[Hannah’s] integrity and strength was great – and I got to order men around, which was a lot of fun! It was an intense, very quick shoot but I had a lot of fun with good people. Just before leaving for San Diego Comic-Con, After Dark Films chief Courtney Solomon and his team gave Fango a few updates on next year’s After Dark Horrorfest 4, which will run January 29 to February 5 and include such high profile titles as Dread and The Graves (previously announced here). “Horrorfest will be back and better than ever,” Solomon tells Fango. “We are busy searching the globe for more films that preserve the quality and integrity of last year’s acquisitions, and we are confident that our loyal fans will be pleased with the 2010 lineup.”
After Dark’s latest addition comes in the form of Dread (see review here), the latest short story adaptation from Clive Barker’s Books Of Blood. The end credits of Penny Dreadful (part of After Dark Horrorfest) state that the movie is “© 2005 Dreadful Films.” Must…not…make…obvious…joke. Actually, I have to be fair and say that this isn’t a dreadful film, just a quite problematic one—starting with the fact that the title is rather misleading. The storyline has nothing to do with the Victorian-era “penny dreadful” pulp tales; it is about a girl named Penny, but she isn’t dreadful, though dreadful things do happen to her.
Quite a few of them, in fact, starting with a prologue auto crash that she survives but which bloodily kills her parents when she’s a young girl. The next we see of her, she’s a teenager (Rachel Miner) with a phobia of cars who’s being taken on a therapeutic road trip by her psychologist, Orianna (Mimi Rogers). The fact that the attendant...

Fango got an exclusive first look at two new stills from The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations, hitting screens as one of the 8 Films to Die For in After Dark’s Horrorfest III (running January 9-15). The film continues the franchise started by the 2004 Ashton Kutcher-starrer and continued in 2006’s direct-to-dvd sequel.
However, the third entry, directed by Seth Grossman and scripted by Holly Brix, seems to take a decidedly more horrific turn. It centers on a young man (Chris Carmack) who receives the time-jumping, event-changing power of the “butterfly effect” and tries to solve the mystery of his high-school girlfriend’s death. In the great tradition of “the road to hell…”, he inadvertently unleashes a menacing serial killer; Rachel Miner (from After Dark’s Penny Dreadful) co-stars. The top photo’s throat-slitting confirms that this will be a more grisly and gory Butterfly Effect than we’re used to...

MGM Home Entertainment gave Fango the first look at cover art and details for its DVD release of the psychochiller Hit And Run. The disc arrives January 13, distributed via Fox Home Video.
Directed by Enda McCallion, the movie (previously titled Bumper) stars Laura (Amusement) Breckenridge as a college student who leaves a spring break party drunk and winds up running a man down with her car. Burying what she believes is her dead victim, she soon learns that her victim wasn’t quite expired, and has unearthed himself to seek violent revenge. Diane Doniol-Valcroze and Arthur Flam, who co-wrote the similarly car-centric Penny Dreadful, scripted Hit And Run, and the cast also includes Kevin (The Last Winter) Corrigan and Christopher (Return To Sleepaway Camp) Shand. MGM’s disc will present the film in widescreen with no announced special features, and retails for $26.98.
