Morðsaga - SPOILERS
drsayaz4 March 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Over the years I've watched quite a few Icelandic films that have made me sick to my stomach with over their sentimentalism and their cold depiction of life in Iceland. Films following these guidelines have almost solely made the view that people have on Icelandic films. Morðsaga is quite different from these films. Morðsaga is the first all-Icelandic film ever made. Its a brutal tale of rotten family life that ends in a horrific scene that includes a young blood-covered naked woman being raped by her stepfather. Its an odd thing that the first 100% native film from Iceland is so far away from the atmosphere that surrounds most other Icelandic produced films.

Morðsaga is great fun. That being said one has to admit that the film has its flaws. The acting isn't that great, neither is the editing. But these flaws are still minor when you consider that this marks the birth of the film industry in Iceland.

Reynir Oddsson is a true film pioneer.
