Roger Goodell thinks the flurry of attention Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship is bringing to the Kansas City Chiefs and the larger league is “great” for the game.

ESPN’s “Toy Story”-themed alternative live stream of Sunday’s Jaguars-Falcons game was incredibly ambitious, and it showed early on in the form of technical issues.
The stream was available on both Disney+ and ESPN+. That is, if you could get in. I was able to log in on my second or third try after fully restarting my TV; a colleague gave up after five minutes of continuous trying. Those who joined halfway (or more) through the first quarter probably had the best viewer experience.
Ball-tracking was the first noticeable challenge and the most consistent issue throughout the game. At times, the football would just appear on random spots of the carpet (field) or slide around the playing surface on its own. Sometimes The Claw, playing the role of umpire in Andy’s room, never even spotted the ball at the line of scrimmage.

Aaron Rodgers is starting a new chapter of his life. This September, the quarterback is making his debut as a member of the New York Jets, his first time playing for a team that's not the Green Bay Packers. He made his NFL debut back in 2005 with the Wisconsin-based team, and he led them to Super Bowl victory in 2011. The start of Rodgers's journey with Gang Green was also documented in this summer's season of "Hard Knocks" on HBO, which went behind the scenes at Jets training camp as Rodgers and his new team prepared for this monumental season.
But just as splashy as Rodgers's professional endeavors is his personal life. The 39-year-old has been in a series of high-profile relationships. Back in 2022, he split from fiancée Shailene Woodley after two years together. He also dated Olivia Munn, "Gossip Girl" alum Jessica Szohr, and race-car driver Danica Patrick. Most recently,...

In a dramatic twist just before the NFL season kicks off, fans have been treated to the thrilling season finale of HBO’s Hard Knocks, which has been following Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets. This season of the popular documentary series has been nothing short of riveting, given the unprecedented hype surrounding Rodgers’ monumental decision to change teams for the first time in his illustrious 18-year career. Throughout the five-episode season, Rodgers gave fans a number of memorable moments. The show’s most surprising moment, though, may have occurred when Rodgers spoke about a subject that had nothing to do with football at all – his prior experience with an unidentified flying object (UFO). Rodgers shared his vivid memory. “We heard this sound, and we saw this tremendously large object moving through the sky,” he recalled. “It was a scene out of Independence Day. Whatever the hell it was,...

When creators of the Netflix docuseries Quarterback selected three NFL playmakers to shadow for the 2022-23 season, they couldn’t possibly be certain that one, Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, would go on to win the Super Bowl; another, the Minnesota Vikings’ Kirk Cousins, would have the season of his life; and the third, the Atlanta Falcons’ Marcus Mariota, would be benched, adding a poignant undertone to balance out the triumphalism.
Netflix’s bet on these three quarterbacks paid off handsomely, both narratively and commercially. With 3.3 million views and 21.4 million hours viewed, per the streamer, the series ranked third among original streaming shows (and fifth among all titles) for its opening week, according to Nielsen — showing Netflix can compete in the sports space even without live rights. The quarterbacks themselves also have expressed satisfaction with the end product.

Max, formerly known as HBO Max, has rolled out its first Top 10 lists in an effort to increase engagement with its best films and series.
Atop the inaugural podium for series are “Hard Knocks” (NFL training camp with the New York Jets), “And Just Like That…,” and “Winning Time,” a series about the Los Angeles Lakers of the ’80s.
Leading movies are DC disappointment “The Flash,” Bishop Sycamore high-school football documentary “Bs High,” and 2015 Will Ferrell/Kevin Hart prison comedy “Get Hard.”
It measures only those series that released a new episode on the platform within the last six weeks period and movies that debuted within the last eight weeks. Those are the windows when hits usually happen; you’ll see movies a heck of a lot older then “Get Hard” on Max’s top 10. Linear tune-in via HBO or the Discovery cable channels does not count toward Max’s Top 10.

The season premiere of Hard Knocks: Training Camp With the New York Jets landed on HBO and Liev Schreiber made a surprising appearance dropping in on Aaron Rodgers via a helicopter.
Rodgers had been vocal about not being thrilled about doing Hard Knocks but said that the only thing that he liked about the show was “the voice of God, who narrates it,” and hoped he got to meet him.
The wishes of the future NFL Hall of Famer came true when Schreiber literally dropped in and descended from the sky via a black chopper. As the helicopter landed, Rodgers is seen telling his teammate Zach Wilson that it was “the narrator of Hard Knocks… the voice of God” who was coming to practice.

As fall creeps closer, major studios have to plan out their next steps if writers and actors continue to strike. At this point it’s already impossible for the fall production schedule to move forward normally, even if the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) went back to work today.
Some outlets, like Paramount Global have already announced they’ll use reruns of streaming and older network shows to fill in programming gaps this fall. New data from Civic Science is showing that viewers could respond to such tactics, at least initially.

Summer isn’t over yet but HBO and its streaming arm Max are already moving on to fall. With its list of new releases for August 2023, Max is focusing on football! The American kind, mind you, not the actually footy kind.
August 2023 sees the release of two major football documentaries on HBO and Max. The first is the premiere of Hard Knocks on Aug. 10. The new season of long-running NFL training camp docuseries will center on the New York Jets, new employers of legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Aug. 23, Max will air the aptly named Bs High. The doc tells the stranger-than-fiction story of high school football team Bishop Sycamore, which pulled off one of the more notable sports scams you’re likely to ever hear about.
Not of the football variety but in keeping with the North American sports theme will be season 2 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on Aug.

This year’s fall schedule will look markedly different thanks to strikes by both the leading actors’ union and the leading writers’ guild in Hollywood, but August will still have some fantastic new hits coming to streaming. Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming platform Max is debuting new titles in just about every imaginable category, so here are the five we’re most excited for at The Streamable!

HBO’s “Hard Knocks” wanted to feature the New York Jets because of the star power of future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers, the quarterback who was added to the team in the off-season.
But it’s getting a little bonus from fiesty Jets players who can’t keep tempers under control during camp drills.
Three days into training camp for the Jets saw multiple fights break out between players at Saturday’s practice, which marked the first session that was open to the fans. A sold-out crowd got to see several competitive skirmishes.
The Jets are one of just four NFL squads to have all players on hand. They open the preseason on Aug. 3.
Reports say there were as many as three different fights, and at least one of them was caught on camera.
The first fight came at around 11:15 a.m., according to The Athletic. It ended quickly.

The New York Jets and their high-profile new quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, will be the focus of this year’s installment of HBO’s long-running Hard Knocks, according to multiple media reports.
The show, which documents a month of training camp action both on and off the field in the runup to the start of the regular season in September, last centered on the Jets in 2010. Coincidentally (or not), that was the last year the team made the playoffs, the longest active drought of any NFL club. Optimism about the Jets has surged since the offseason signing of Rodgers, a four-time Mvp and Super Bowl champion during 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers in recent weeks has been a visible presence around New York City, attending last month’s Tony Awards as well as Knicks and Rangers playoff games.

As sports docuseries go, Netflix's Quarterback by no means reinvents the wheel. While the eight-part series boasts unprecedented access to NFL stars at the peak of their careers — including Super Bowl Lvii champion and Mvp Patrick Mahomes — it relies on a familiar format as it charts their respective journeys throughout the 2022 season. Episodes combine extensive game footage with commentary from Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Mahomes, Minnesota Vikings Qb Kirk Cousins, and former Atlanta Falcon Marcus Mariota, who speak candidly about their successes, disappointments, and struggles. Swap in different sports and you get Netflix shows like Formula 1: Drive to Survive and Full Swing, or shift the timeline up to the preseason to replicate the league's long-running HBO series Hard Knocks.

The fact that Mahomes won the Super Bowl, with a high ankle sprain, in a thrilling game against the Philadelphia Eagles, is a boon for the series, which comes from NFL Films, Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions and Mahomes’ 2Pm Productions.
The series, which will premiere in the summer, will follow the three QBs from the start of the season to the end, following them on and off the field, from inside the huddle with teammates to inside their homes with their families

The Directors Guild of America announced the nominees for television, commercials and documentary for its 75th annual DGA Awards today, a list headed by previous winners Ben Stiller and Vince Gilligan, three-time nominee Jason Bateman and Tim Burton, who shockingly hadn’t previously been nominated by the DGA.
Those directors vying for TV Drama Series honors include Bateman (for an episode of Netflix’s “Ozark”), Gilligan (for an installment of AMC’s “Better Call Saul”), Stiller (for an episode of Apple TV+’s “Severance”), Aoife McArdle (also “Severance”) and Sam Levinson (an episode of HBO’s “Euphoria”). Competing for TV Comedy Series are Burton (for an episode of Netflix’s “Wednesday”), Bill Hader (HBO’s “Barry”), Amy Sherman-Palladino (now a four-time nominee for Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Christopher Storer (Hulu’s “The Bear”) and Mike White (HBO’s “The White Lotus”).

The Directors Guild of America has announced its nominations in its television categories, with several new series, including “Wednesday,” “Severance,” and “The Bear” receiving nominations alongside returning series such as “Ozark,” “Better Call Saul” and “The White Lotus”
At last year’s DGA television awards, “Succession” dominated the drama series category with all five of the nominees. This year, with that HBO series on hiatus, the nominees went to Jason Bateman (“Ozark”), Vince Gilligan (“Better Call Saul”), Sam Levinson (“Euphoria”), and Aoiff McArdle and Ben Stiller for two separate episodes of “Severance.”
In the comedy series category, Tim Burton scored his first ever career DGA nomination, for “Wednesday.” Burton was joined by Bill Hader (“Barry”), Amy Sherman-Palladino (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Christopher Storer (“The Bear”), and Mike White (“The White Lotus”).
