Clever and exciting CG, but where is the story?

This was included on the disk "Shorts: Volume 2"--a rather dull collection of short films. Shorts are among my favorite style of films but somehow the people assembling this second collection had a hard time finding quality content--and it wasn't nearly as good as the first volume or other shorts collections.

I really can't blame the film maker too much for the shortcomings of this film--I think he was a film student and it has all the hallmarks of an experimental film or that of a student. The problem is that although the film had very creative and exciting computer generated animation, it really lacked a story. As for the visuals, while they are relatively simple for 2001, the animator makes the most of it by infusing the characters with so much weirdness and humor that you can't help but watch. It's just a shame that the story itself didn't seem that interesting.

beautiful

It is a beautiful parable about social acceptance, about the relation with your pet and the need to be part of community. Inspired use of technology and fair story , maybe not convincing for many but right crafted, enough sensitive and preserving the flavor of the Central Euope short stories , with few drops of Jew influences.
