Academy Award-winning actress Emma Stone has starred in many films under her screen name, but she would like people to use her name. Stone's real name is Emily, although she's professionally known as Emma.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter during a conversation with her The Curse co-star, Nathan Fielder, Stone's real name came up. Now a two-time Academy Winner (for her roles in 2016's La La Land and 2023's Poor Things), the actress has been in different genres throughout her career, which spans almost two decades, with her first role being in the 2005 film The New Partridge Family, where she was credited as Emily Stone.

Emma Stone and Timothee Chalamet sat down for a chat for Variety’s Actors on Actors. For more, click here.
Timothée Chalamet’s emergence in last year’s Oscar race felt like a tidal wave. All at once, a gifted young star had surfaced, perhaps to claim the mantle for a new generation of leading men. He’s followed his 2017 performances in “Call Me by Your Name” and “Lady Bird” with “Beautiful Boy,” a family saga in which the 22-year-old Chalamet, as a wayward drug addict, both yearns for and repels his family’s love.
Emma Stone, by contrast, is a movie veteran at only 30. Following her breakout in “Easy A” with “The Help,” her Oscar-nominated role in “Birdman” and a win for “La La Land,” Stone has established herself as a generational standard-bearer. In this year’s “The Favourite,” Stone, as an aspiring courtier seeking the attention of Queen Anne,...

As Emma Stone stood onstage at the Dolby Theatre accepting her Best Actress award at the Oscars on Sunday, she might think back to where it all started: A ninth grade history class in Scottsdale, Arizona.
That’s where Stone, 14 at the time, decided she was dropping out of school and moving to L.A. to become a star. “I had this Howard Beale-like moment,” she told The Hollywood Reporter about her realization, citing Peter Finch’s character’s iconic meltdown in Network. “It’s the last period of the day, and I have a revelation that I needed to...

Thursday's Oscar nominations consisted almost exclusively of familiar faces from the film world. Before several of these actors broke out on the big screen, though, they found their way into the spotlight on television. Among these class acts is a comic actress–turned–serious dramatist who's actually a reality veteran, a sharp-tongued supporting actor whose first recurring gig was on an Nsfw HBO series and a threepeat nominee who learned his craft from asking other Oscar go-to guys for their advice - over and over again. Long before Emma Stone wooed us in hits like Superbad, Easy A, and The Amazing Spider-Man, she was competing on reality TV.
Back in 2004, VH1 launched a competitive reality show called In Search of the New Partridge Family. The show was… searching for people to star in a TV series called The New Partridge Family. Stone made it onto the series, where she got to show off her pipes onstage, singing songs like Meredith Brooks’ “Bitch” and Pat Benatar’s “We Belong.”
“You go in there rolling your eyes, thinking, ‘this is just a reality search competition,’ but then you’re there for seven weeks,...

Several weeks ago, Sony Pictures invited us to attend the press junket The Amazing Spider-Man. The reboot takes a grittier, more realistic approach to Peter Parker's journey to becoming your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, and sees the wall-crawler struggling to come to grips with the mysterious of disappearance of his parents. For more on the film, click here for all of our previous coverage. During my on-camera interview with Emma Stone, who plays Gwen Stacy, we talked about the experience of previewing the film at Comic-Con and WonderCon, why the character's fate in the comics drew her to the role, playing Laurie Partridge in the TV movie The New Partridge Family, and more. Hit the jump to check out the interview, and click here for my interview with co-star Andrew Garfield. The Amazing Spider-Man opens in 3D on July 3rd. She kissed Ryan Gosling in "Crazy, Stupid, Love," stole the show in 2011's "The Help" and dates her "Amazing Spider-Man" costar Andrew Garfield.
Still, Emma Stone came from humble beginnings, and she's the first to admit it. The actress got her start covering Pat Benatar's "We Belong" on "The New Partridge Family," which aired in 2004 on VH1.
"It was totally, 100 percent a reality show," Stone told The Daily Beast of the series, based on the '70s hit show "The Partridge Family. "My mom had never pushed me to audition for anything, but she saw a commercial on TV for it and said, 'You look like Susan Dey a little, and just dyed your hair brown ... Why don’t you give this a shot? I have a weird feeling.' I did it and ended up winning. I don’t regret it for a minute."

We're used to seeing Emma Stone walking the red carpet and promoting her hit movies, but it was just a few short years ago that she was still looking for fame -- on a VH1 talent show.
In 2004, a pre-"Superbad" Stone showed off her singing skills on the reality show, "In Search of the Partridge Family," hoping to win a role on the network's revival of the musical program.
Luck must have been on her side because -- spoiler alert! -- Stone actually went on to win a spot on "The New Partridge Family" as Laurie Partridge, but the show didn't make it past a pilot episode.
Check out the video below to see Stone in action, singing "We Belong."

She may squeeze laughs out of compulsively crooning Natasha Bedingfield's irritatingly catchy "Pocketful of Sunshine" in this week's 'Easy A,' but once upon a time Emma Stone sang those kinds of easy listening ditties in earnest.
On national television.
Competing for the chance to play ... Laurie Partridge?
The year was 2004, and Stone (then going by her given name, Emily) was a competitor on the VH1 reality show 'In Search of the New Partridge Family.' The 'American Idol'-esque competition had audiences call in to vote on who they wanted cast in VH1's planned 'Partridge Family' reboot, but of course that was a terrible idea -- except for the fact that Stone won, beating out seven other wannabe Laurie Partridges for the role on the quickly-cancelled 'The New Partridge Family' series, and in doing so earned her first credited screen role.

Emily Jean Stone, better known as Emma Stone, was born on November 6, 1988, in Scottsdale, Arizona, the daughter of Jeff and Krista Stone, and the older sister of Spencer. Stone started acting at a relatively young age, appearing in a school production of The Wind in the Willows when she was just 11. Regional theater appearances followed and eventually, at 15, Stone convinced her parents -- using popcorn and a PowerPoint presentation, of all things, keyed to the Madonna song "Hollywood" -- to let her take a serious shot at acting, which meant relocating to Los Angeles. "I just always wanted to act from birth,” Stone told Saturday Night Magazine. "I think I was drawn to comedy originally because when I was really young, by the time I was eight, I had seen movies like The Jerk (1979), Animal House (1978), and Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987) with my dad, and I knew them by heart. I loved them,...
