As good as any Hollywood flick
user-1379423 December 2006
First the comparison with Dhoom 1. It is repetitive in parts, especially because of the irritating Ali (Uday Chopra), who has outlived his utility in the first part. On the other hand, this has Hrithik and Ash, and is basically all about the duo! Abhishesk as Inspector Jai provides the continuity in the story, but this is Hrithik's film all the way. He packs in a great performance, looks awesome, fights, dances, cries, laughs and even kisses (yes, the infamous kiss!) all the way. Just watch this for him. Ash looks fabulous and puts in a great performance as well. The songs are a let down, except for the title number Dhoom machale. The story is good, however the ending is a let-down as compared with the first part. Don't listen to your pals who tell you that this is copied from numerous Hollywood movies. It's just that the intellectuals are jealous because Bollywood has finally managed to look as good as Hollywood!

Not the best.... seen better
253439122 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Having watched Sanjay Gadhvi's previous offerings (Mere Yaar ki Shaadi Hai and Dhoom 1) I had expected a brilliant film given that he had assembled the best cast he has ever worked with. Thus as I sat there the Canal Walk (Cape Town) cinema, my expectations were sky high.

Opening sequence was promising and then that song! "Dhoom Again" performed by easily the best dancer in the world, masterfully choreographed by stage whiz shiamak davar. The film already had its plus points.

However as the movie meandered on its course, the movie became more about gloss and less about substance.

Each character - except Abishek, who apparently was left in the dark ages - have worked on their looks and appearance for their repsective roles, but did any of the brains trust at YashRaj expect the attractive to not just look the part, but portray it as well?

The plot and screenplay was as skimpy as the clothing the female leads had to wear. Each and every sequence was copied from their superior Hollywood counterparts, and at many a times these looked like a lesser version of the original. At times the stunts were overly done.

Plusses: * With the regular costume designers given a well-deserved break from designing actual clothes, the actresses were forced to wear little, if anything at all.... well for some of us, that is a plus! *Hritik Roshan and his dancing skills: is this guy for real? * The brilliant locales (Rio, Durban, Namibia) * Some good music {though some have been plagiarised from mid-east singers} * Bipasha and Aishwarya: HOT! Need we say more? *some touches of on-screen chemistry between ash and hritik, bips and abishek. * Choreography by Vaibhavi Merchant esp. Crazy Kiya re and Dil Laga Naa

Minuses: * Aishwarya and Bipasha wasted in their respective roles. Both are noted actresses, and yet in this movie they are just used as glam dolls, mere props. Both ladies are there to look HOT and well they score points on that count only. Acting-wise,the less said, the better . And please fire the dialogue writer for Ash's character. * Abhisek BAchchan: his angry young dude role is somewhat lame and he looked like the odd one out. He needed a makeover, which the rest of the cast clearly had. * Forcing Abhisek to dance in the same movie or song as Hritik is like having a dance-off between a rank left-footed newcomer and an champion dancer. He looks laughable.

Regardless of my rants and raves, D2 will continue to dominate the box-office while more superior old-fashioned films (Babul) with actual substance will find their vying for appreciation an uphill battle.

Wow !!

Warning: Spoilers
This movie was great.... I love it!! Two thumbs up for Hrithik being at his best look and acting.... Aishwarya was looking great too (didn't like some of her role though).... The plot was good.... A lot different than the first....

Now for what i didn't like in the movie: Bipasha as a double role was not needed in it at all, and nor was the girl who played Abhishek's wife... These were just waste..... And the story didn't carry so much weight like the first one.... But it's acceptable because most sequels aren't good enough....

Overall it was a good movie.... I enjoyed every moment of it.... The outfits, gadgets, music, dances and locations were great... And i also liked the way it surprised me to some extent....

Some parts of the movie weren't acceptable to the family crowds but i guess that's completely okay compared to a lot of movies.... First of all this movie is not meant for kids, due to it's violence and women in scanty clothing... Which goes for Dhoom 1 as well..... anyway am sure a lot people enjoyed it.....

so i give it an 8/10.....

Its Hritik all the way
AvinashPatalay26 March 2009
Probably one of the rare instance where the successor is better than the predecessor. And yes, solely the credit should go Hritik Roshan for setting the screen ablaze with his electrifying presence. Truly he had added sheen to every frame he is present in. And yes, neatly providing hand-in-glove support is Aishwarya and in honesty the due credit should be given. The only disappointment is her performance which was "like" artificial, while on the other hand Hritik's perfection clearly left its mark.

Jr. B was completely overshadowed by Hritik. I guess Dhoom 2 was Hritik's payback for Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon, and my my!!

Uday Chopra is good in the edited role. Anything more would have spoilt the feast. His pairing was akin to 48 Hours, Lethal Weapon and Rush Hour.

Bipasha's sole intention seemed to flaunt her figure which she succeeds. And the double-role was a pot-hole in the storyline.

Rimi Sen's character was simply loud and should have been left out (just like Eesha Deol). In fact they should have borrowed the franchise idea from Munnabhai.

Songs take a while to grow on you unlike the Dhoom where it was instant hit. Choreography deserves a special mention, and yes Vaibhavai Merchant proved she is second to none.

Action sequences are well done. Noteworthy are suspenseful interplay between Hritik and Aishwarya & Hritik and Jr. B. Some good writing there indeed and remind you of Tarantino in Kill Bill.

Indeed Dhoom had a great potential to churn it into a successful franchise sadly the politics it has run into mars the chances. Needless to say, if it were to go forward Dhoom II has definitely set the bar quite high.

Dhoom Again !!
apant26 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
OK, so I finally got to watch the much talked about, over-hyped sequel to the under-hyped sleeper hit of 2004. And I'm glad I did! It is what is called as the perfect time-pass, paisa vasool film.

What Dhoom-2 lacks in terms of a coherent plot and neatly crafted screenplay, it more than compensates for through a clever and consistent sprinkling of awe-inspiring stunts, energetically choreographed dance routines, picture-perfect scene compositions and oodles of eye candy.

Dhoom-2, like its predecessor, is the quintessential cop and robber tale where there's neither the place nor the need for logic. The film opens with a breathtaking visual of a lone train running through a vast Namibian desert. Though the execution of this robbery is disappointing (it almost seems that the writer and director felt that once they had a great setting, their task was done), it sets the stage for what would unfold over the next 2 hours. From then on we are drawn into a high-octane cat and mouse game (so what if the robber always has the upper hand...right till the end?). The action explodes with such energy that one doesn't get the time to think about the loopholes in the plot.

Yes, after the movie is over you wonder if the film would have been much better had the writer made it into a mind game between the adversaries - a kind of intelligent oneupmanship. But as long as you're in the theatre, you're hooked on! You don't regret that the cop - who insists that such games are won by the mind and not the bullet - has virtually no plan except planting a mole. You don't mind that the mole - seemingly a consummate crook herself - doesn't show any skill except loads of sexual energy. And you certainly don't mind that Mr. Perfect Thief gets away unscathed every single time, thanks to - if I may use the word - a DUMB cop who appears dumber than his bumbling side-kick. All this, because of the charismatic screen presence of Hrithik Roshan.

It wouldn't be wrong to say that Dhoom-2 belongs to Hrithik Roshan (Mr. A, Aryan). Mind you, that's not a tribute to his acting talent. He is at best an above-average actor, but when it comes to screen presence no one among the current crop of actors can come even closer to him. And boy, what a dancer! His dance movements are more unbelievable and awe-inspiring than the cable-supported, SFX-created action sequences. It is absolutely clear that Dhoom-2 was designed to be his showcase. How else would you explain the terribly underwritten character of the cop, or the fact that Hrithik is on the screen in 90% of the scenes?

And then there's Ash (Sunehri). Could anyone believe that her 'plastic beauty' persona could actually set the screen afire? What has she done to her body! What a metamorphosis!! Ash's Sunehri is HOT. She and Hrithik come across as the most perfect screen pairing in recent memory. But, hey, what was all that hullabaloo about their lip-lock?

On the acting front, Ash is adequate. All she is required to do is to look hot and be a perfect foil to Hrithik. She does precisely that with great élan. It's sad that Abhishek (Jai Dixit) got saddled with a hastily written role. It's unpardonable that the character of Jai Dixit, the main connecting link between the sequels - is so one-dimensional. Numerous reviews have lambasted Abhishek's acting in Dhoom-2, but the blame here lies with the producer-director-writer. They seem so hell bent on making this a showcase for Hrithik that they've given almost a step-motherly treatment to Abhishek's character. On his part, Abhishek honestly portrays what he's been asked to do.

Uday Chopra (Ali) should find solace in the fact that his father and brother are the most successful producers in India and they will continue to find roles for him in their films. He has no acting talent whatsoever. Hats off to Aditya Chopra for using the clever ploy of giving Ali's character dozens of one-liners that manage to draw a few laughs from the audience and divert them from Uday Chopra's unbelievable yet unquestionable lack of acting skills.

Should I get deeper into the negatives? For one, The music is very disappointing - had it not been for the Shaimak Davar's and Vaibhavi Merchant's choreography or Hrithik's and Ash's fluid dance movements the songs would have been unbearable to watch on screen. Also, despite a larger canvas and more style it doesn't cover any new ground compared to Dhoom....nah, I wouldn't get into all this. If one were to start, the list of negatives for Dhoom-2 might be quite long but why dwell on that? I found the film very entertaining and that's all that mattered to me while watching the film.

Popcorn for the eyes and mind
DVD_Connoisseur15 May 2007
"Dhoom 2" starts with a scene that made my jaw drop and left me puzzling why director Sanjay Gadhvi isn't locked away in the Tower of London. Hrithik Roshan posing as the Queen? The mind boggles! This film is lightweight entertainment but it boasts one of the best looking cast I've ever seen and the visuals are gorgeous. Aishwarya Rai is delicious as bad girl Sunehiri and Bipasha Basu is delectable as twin sisters Shonali and Monali. Rimi Sen reprises her role as long-suffering wife of Abhishek Bachchan, Sweety.

Bachchan's Jai Dixit is not the most likable character but Uday Chopra is the perfect sidekick, bringing welcome comic relief to most scenes.

However, it's Hrithik Roshan who steals the show (no pun intended). Roshan is a great bad guy and the most interesting character in the film.

The dance sequences and songs are a lot of fun but the film could have been so much better had the script been more developed.

7 out of 10. Good but not great.

It is the "A" factor all the way
smitra200619 December 2006
True there is nothing much in the movie except Hrithik and his special brand of charisma. But he alone makes the movie a little more than the usual claptrap entertainment. I personally feel he never looked better. His dance numbers are just perfect. Though there is little scope for acting in this flick, Hrithik does manage to give the character of Mr."A" a special flavor of his own. All the other characters are sort of sidelined. Pity, Abhishek Bachhan fades into obscurity beside Hrithik, both in looks and in performance. All in all, if you are a Hrithik fan this a must-see. If you are not, it is time to review your judgment.

Great packaging; contents leave a lot to be desired

Warning: Spoilers
Dhoom 2, one of the most eagerly awaited movies of the year, is finally out. And how is it? It's okay.

It looks great, brilliant locales, camera work, Hritik and Ash look excellent, too. But as far as a storyline goes, it disappoints. Unlike the first Dhoom, where there was a crisp storyline, supported by great stunts, this one has superb stunts trying to hold together a non-existent story.

Ash is extremely annoying, from her first dialog onwards. Bipasha is wasted. Abhishek doesn't have that much to do and is more supporting cast than anything else. I can't stand Uday Chopra.

Hritik is the best thing in the movie. He is cool, smooth and can take on action really well. However, compared to John Abraham's character in the first one, Hritik is a slightly kind hearted and emotional guy. I preferred Kabir's character cos he was really a bad boy. I don't know why they didn't go all the way with Hritik on that. It might have been better and Ashwairya's character could've been completely written off.

All in all, watch it once cos its fun.

tainted_perfection27 November 2006
Yes,its Dhoom machale once again! This time leave out John Abraham and add in his girl Bipasha Basu. Also add in a dash of Hrithik Roshan and a pinch of Aishwarya Rai and you get Dhoom 2! Expectations are high ,and you just pray that your'e not disappointed...

You see, when you watch Dhoom 2 ,you realize its not about the plot but about high-tech action, beautiful locations, danceable songs and not to forget: our good-looking hotties: Hrithik,Aish,Abhi and Bipasha...And they don't disappoint! This film keeps its promise in that it never fails to entertain you-never mind the plot. What you get is good-looking people doing high-tech stunts, dancing and romancing in locales such as Rio de Janerio in Brazil..

Verdict:Don't bring along your brains for this movie-Just sit back and relax as top bollywood stars flex their muscles and toned bodies and entertain you throughout this flick!

Dhoom..is only half the fizz!
anupama_0726 November 2006
Dhoom 1 wasn't a great movie but was refreshing and different! Dhoom 2..it's bigger, glossier and gets skimpier! Not just in terms of the clothes women wear, but also in terms of the script..if there is any! It's obvious that Mr Ghandvi lost focus, with all the star cast, glamour and money to splurge on the look. No doubt that the look was Super cool or flashy, locales breath taking, but if that is all that you are looking for then Dhoom 2 is for you!

I don't expect movies..especially Hindi movies to cater to some High IQ needs of some viewers..I for one completely switch off my brain during the movie..but even by that standards there are some scenes that are too much to handle!! Especially the so called Chemistry scenes between ASH and Hrithik..oh god save me!!!

Now, on to my take on the stars of the movie,

Hrithik - was Simply Amazing. I am not a big Hrithik fan, have never been, but if there is any reason to watch this movie, it is Mr A! Roshan as A acts well, does some amazing stunts, dances beautifully (now that is nothing new!) and looks absolutely FAB!!! the movie belongs to him..

ASH as sunehri - the less said the better..I may be a bit biased here for I am no fan of her's ..but seriously ASH is good as long as her mouth is shut or she is not trying to act (or over act!) seriously she is the most beautiful woman in the world ..but can someone teach her acting??? She looks good even if they may have made her a bit extra tanned!!

Bipasha - well she was definitely a treat for the men ..but thats just abt it..not that you expect anything more from her..

uday - he is the 'funny guy' in the movie..he is funny even when he does a serious role (in some other movies!) so ..well...

ABBY BABY - now thats one man i went to watch the movie for,,but i was disappointed..he looks so tired and disinterested through out the movie..obviously he couldn't resolve his wt problems and being biased towards him its becuz of his preparation for guru..but his character was the least developed and all attention was given to hrithik!! but don't worry abby baby you have guru waiting! having said that ..he was good in two of the scenes he meets hrithik!

Overall verdict - if you are easy going, tolerant and generally not bothered, have time or a big fan of hrithik i guess this movie will appeal to you. Else, don;t worry you are not missing much

Dhoom 1 or Dhoom 2 - my choice Dhoom 1

fast N furious, Italian Job, Miami Vice all packed together in Indian Cinema Style.. Smashing... *****
navinuk24 November 2006
fantastic movie...from start to end a good time pass.. a 1000 times better than DON...If u liked the category of movies like fast n furious (1,2,3) and Italian Job, Miami Vice etc then u would surely Like this MOvie.. It has used some cool script and costume ideas from Bourne Identity, Lara craft, The Saint (Val Kilmer) and two more movies I can't recall but all in a good stylish Indian flavour. The story is packed with so many Punches both in stunts and in suspense that U won't get even a min for stretch etc..even songs are lovely too..You would need to adjust yourself to the pace and style of the movie right from beginning.. within minutes(may be secs) of its start..n many would whistle its catchy theme tone on way out..

Hrithik and Aishwarya..Bollywood's God and Goddess have appeared together in a Movie First ever time.. and Aishwarya has given a Good Lip Kiss (won't call it a smooch) first time ever..Aishwarya has never looked so sexier before.. (and I thought the gals in FnF-Tokyo Drift were so sexy)..even tho she sizzles all DA time and melts the screen many times... many would agree with me that in DA movie this Nymph and celestial beauty was beaten first time in personality by Bollywood's only DEMI-GOD, a Rock Personality with the Face of an Angel,Eyes of an Elf Prince and Physique of Achillies..HRITHIK..It could be the Script (Aish eyeing Hrithik) or Cameraman's focus on Hrithik's face N personality..Or Aish admiring Hrithik's eyes..and convincingly succumbing to his magnanimous persona (which would be difficult to believe with any other actor)..This one-man-army is Bollywood's one-stop answer to Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and the likes of James Bond..or rather Shows a BIG ? to Hollywood.. HAVE YOU GOT AN ANSWER TO THIS MAN? Bipasa does her part well.. her acting n figure has improved a lot.. Uday did his part well too.... and sorry for all Abhishek's Fan (of his looks) his acting was good in this movie..but in terms of fast & furious looks..he was the only 1 who didn't fit there..ignorable bearded druggie looking dude...has anyone noticed that he slouches all DA time.. his neck wanna fell down to floor,, has a Lil double chin and has dark circles around his swollen eyes.. look at him carefully in DA movie...and u would notice all that..

Turn off your brain and enjoy...
NeetaKaur5 November 2007
This film has a major lack of common sense and gravity. It's all gloss with gorgeous people, gorgeous locations, catchy songs, and a TERRIBLE script. It you're looking for the perfect popcorn flick, where you can just turn your brain off, this film is for you. It's basically the first film but glossier and bigger than life. As for the cast...

Hrithik Roshan-If nothing else, watch the film for him. His performance was really natural, his dancing was once again AMAZING and he looks really hot. Mr.A was a pretty cool character.

Aishwarya Rai-SO ANNOYING!! The worst acting I have ever seen! She was a major part in the MANY things that made this film stupid.

Abhishek Bachchan-...boring...

Uday Chopra-His job was to just act like a buffoon and he accomplished it

Bipash Basu-...I'm not exactly sure WHY she was in the film.

sad state of affairs
mandar-m-apte3 December 2006
I have no words to describe how disappointed I was with Dhoom 2. There was no story to speak of. There was no direction. I think the makers of Dhoom 2 would like to believe that the audience of Hindi films are like the audience of Teletubbies. Show some colorful scenes, some song and dance and we will all be happy and merry. I was impressed with what Bollywood movies have achieved in terms of technical wizardry, but was terribly let let down down by the movie makers' total lack of respect for the audience's intelligence.

I read previous reviews about how Aishwarya Rai was 'hot' etc etc. There are a lot of 'hot' things out there if thats what people were looking for in this presentation. And Rai fails to impress in this regard. Her teen 'hep' character is contrived and shallow. Especially as the 'gritty' American girl who challenges her dude to a basket ball game. Most of Dhoom 2 is like that... a collage of borrowed concepts and montages which can be easily traced to their origins, giving a feeling of being cheated. Main Hoon Na did it with panache, but Dhoom 2 is a total waste of time. Yours and the film makers. (and mine, some might say, for writing this review)

Well...-
Mr. Bug29 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Dhoom 2 is a mindless popcorn flick that asks for your brain at the door and hands it back 3 hours later when you leave, hoping you had a good time in between. I was amused more than once and I can appreciate several things in the film. But in the end the hard reality and number one rule of good film making is and always will be (and that really needs to sink in more in Bollywood): A GOOD FILM STARTS WITH A GOOD SCRIPT, EVEN IF ITS ONLY AIM IS CAREFREE ENTERTAINMENT FOR 3 HOURS. Dhoom 2's script is simply very half baked, full of plot holes so big the usual disclaimers for fantasy action fare are stretched too thin here and it becomes annoying. What should be a gripping tale of the psychology of cop and robber sprinkled with sleek action and display of technology (in the film and making the film) degrades into standard formula fare with unnecessary songs, forced comic routines, abrupt and unmotivated sight seeing orgies, and replacement of a main character. Let's ignore the heavy inspiration from many Hollywood films. That's not the main problem. The interference of the Bollywood formula and weak script is. Not all is bad, though, some parts are well done and in a better film would fit in very nicely. The Russian roulette scene is the emotional core of the film and delivers, ending included (bravo for going against the formula here). The statue scene is cool as well (unrealistic but in a way one can smilingly accept, l'art pour l'art). The Queen act at the beginning, unexpected, hilarious (the action afterwards less so). And this of course brings us to the main asset of the film, this Indian A list actor (and I mean international A list as far as potential is concerned) whose publicly announced goal is to lift commercial Hindi cinema to an international quality level so it can cross over, stuck in another local B grade effort (by international standards) limiting his impact: The one and only HRITHIK ROSHAN. He carries the film from start to finish and it hurts to see him work his ass off and exude more charisma with one finger than the whole cast of most films do with all they got, just to be let down by shoddy scripting and stylistic choices that might impress in some quarters but definitely not at others where international product is well known and fighting it out for market share with Hollywood. The rest of the cast is OK. Aishwarya and Hrithik are eye candy of the highest caliber. Abhishek, Uday and the rest have not really got roles though. 2 of the songs should be cut right away. 3 others are good. Film is well shot, stunts are OK although highly unrealistic most of the time and the fact many of them are really done by Hrithik himself is not obvious enough. He trains for 3 months and it's over in 3 seconds. Hm. See it if you like Ash and Hrithik, do not expect much and you will likely be impressed by some of it. 4 points for the film and 2 extra for Mr. Roshan. (By the way, Hrithik is NOT playing his first villain in this film as claimed in the promotions. He's not anymore a villain than Robin Hood. He's the hero of the film which you cheer on and want to succeed. If Robin Hood is a villain then Hrithik was a villain before in Fiza and Mission Kashmir).

This Year Sequels Are IN!
rohonnag24 November 2006
year 2006 has been the most successful one in bollywood till date. well good news is dhoom 2 is just going to make the ending of this year go out with a BANG! this film has the girls, the gadgets and the action to be adequate part 2 to dhoom (2004) this time around ACP JAI and sub inspector Ali are after an international master thief. the thief known as A, played by the ever popular Hrithik Roshan. the girls are Sunaina played by Ashwarya rai (overacted a LOT) and sonali/monali played by bipasha basu (also overacted).

so whats so good about the film ? well it is a complete entertainer. its got action and romance and dance and music, some minor twists, nothing major, one thing to notice are the many faces of the master thief Mr A.

so go have a blast (dhoom) and see the last hit film of 2006.

An extra going for HRITHIK , he is sexier, cooler, and rules all the way, love you duggu
paribadar4 February 2007
A great performance by Hrithik. He has done it again outside his father's production. He is sexy and cool as he has never been in any other film so far. Sanjay's direction is mind blowing. Dhoom and Dhoom 2 no comparison between. Dhoom was brilliant so is the sequel. I loved first one but i feel Dhoom 2 is just the best.

Bollywood is trying to go westward but it's a great little copy from the 2 fast 2 furious. Bollywood gave great movies in 2006. Loved many but love Hrithik in all the way. I enjoyed watching Dhoom 2 in theater for 10 times already. I loved Hrithik's stunts. The action is brilliant. Hrithik looks very sexy in each time he's on screen. The costumes are brilliant so is the music. Ash looks sexy as ever. Bipasha beats Esha's bikini scene. Bipasha looks sensual and very sexy. She really fits in that bikini. Uday is just adding a great humor to film. He is good in his part. Abi has improved since the last time. I didn't liked him in first Dhoom but surely i liked him here. His acting has improved so much that now he is rulling. The lyrics are brilliant and Pritam's music is outstanding. Dhoom again song is just brilliant by music and Hrithik only. Little minus points on that but hrithik makes you dance and the remix of each songs are brilliant. The choreography is marvelous. Duggu is wordless even after krrish. I loved him in krrish and in here. I wasn't a Hrithik before i saw Koi mil gaya and Krrish but after saying him in koi mil gaya and krrish and Dhoom 2, i would say this guy is here to create a history like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh and Amir khan. He is no way less than Shah Rukh even Shah Rukh is the King Khan but wait till 10 years, Hrithik is here to create a history. Hrithik's dance's are better than Shahrukh's dance. Hrithik looks sexy charming in Dhoom 2. Great work Hrithik. Ash your just a woman with beauty with brain and the world knows it and i don't want comment on that. Bipasha great going year for her as well. She is sexier than she was in jism. I can't wait for Dhoom 3.

This movie is awesome! The story is great and funny!!
Nevil_9317 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is the best!!! Even though there are really impossible action scenes ,the movie is great for action lovers! It is gr8 for an Indian movie! It totally looks like an American movie because of the movie scenes. The critics are gr8. There are many turn overs but they(Jai and Ali) still catch Mr. A! The end is impossible because even though Ash shoots Hrithik he doesn't die!!! The starting is really cool when Hrithik(Mr.A) jumps off a helicopter and sky - dives to the train!!!! Hrithik is really smart and he actually steals the crown. Some of the impossible scenes are when Ali skates off the ramp and he like flies for 5 minutes. In that much time you could fly 10 mile far when he just falls right there. Another one was when Hrithik was shot and he didn't die, But the movie is still really good!!!

Let's cut to the chase and first get the basics done away with. Saw this movie today, and these are a few points that I feel should be answered first.

1. As a sequel to 'Dhoom,' is this movie better than the first one? Yes!

2. Is it worth watching? If you liked 'Dhoom,' this one is a must see!

3. Avoid it if you expect any drama, or food for intellectual thought. This is all about living life in the fast and furious lane.

Coming to the nittty-gritty of it… Before you watch this movie, spare a moment and find out why you want to watch this flick. If it's for the hype or the curiosity value the first offering delivered AND you liked the first one, then I highly recommend it, since it delivers more than you expected… Bike aficionados might be a bit disappointed as you will find only one bike chase sequence here… and if it reminds you of the one in MI-2, kindly take no offence. The director here is creative enough to come out with his own version.

D2 is a movie that revolves around mastermind thief 'A' (Hrithik) who makes robbery into art and has earned international acclaim for the same. Next on his list is to commit the crime in the city of Mumbai where he shall meet Inspector Jai (Abhishek) and his sidekick Ali (Uday) to foil all attempts. Now this is a criminal who like Val Kilmer in the… 'Saint'… keeps changing his appearance. So no one really knows how this chappy looks.

But our desi version of Tango (Jai) aided by Cash (Ali), are quick enough to understand his mindset and identify the next place in Mumbai this international artist-thief wants to add to his kitty.

Despite their best efforts which include Inspector SHOW (Bipasha- No pun intended) this thief manages to take home his prize. What follows next is a roller coaster ride of twists and turns which I better omit since it will steal the thunder of watching the movie. For real added incentive is our desi Catwoman (Aishwarya)

What works for D2 is slick editing, a better script than the first one, getting to watch Bipasha and Ash who look beautiful, especially in skimpy clothes which look great on them, exotic international locales (beaches / waterfalls included) And a Hrithik who carries the entire show to perfection. He suits the pace and style of this movie to the square inch and makes for some sizzling chemistry with Ash on screen for the first time. Hey! even the songs are quite foot-tapping.

Also watching Abby Baby and him sharing the same screen space in a few shots is awesome. As expected, Uday gets the best one-liners and carries on from where he left off in 'Dhoom.' Great cinematography that the movie showcases setting the tempo with its opening sequence of a running train (though the scene did bring back memories for the opening sequence to 'Bad Day at Black Rock -1955')

That the movie missed out on a 10/10 from me was only for the reason that though the heist sequences are quite innovative and the stunts quite good… they simply leave a lot of questions unanswered??? Rimi Sen purely serves the purpose of a hanger and is soon forgotten.

Rest of the cast is simply there… their characters float along, hardly given a chance for development. One walks out of the theatre only remembering it to be a movie about Hrithik and Ash supported by 'OTHERS.' Some of the scenes are simply hard to digest... since I have no intention to spoil your appetite my only hint goes for keeping a close eye on the first FEMALE :-)who comes on screen. That should give you a preview of how CORNY few of other scenes are likely to get.

But all said and done, a viewer should keep all that aside and watch this movie for its pure entertainment value.

So keep your analytical brain out of the equation and watch this movie to add some 'extra Dhoom' to a mundane day.

Exotic
bugsnbee2 January 2007
Wonderfully exotic - for Bollywood. If your intention is to totally spend two hours detached from reality and just watch a movie, this is it. Ali, thank goodness, doesn't seem to prattle on (unlike Dhoom), to the point that you want to beat Jai to throttle him. Mr A is slick - 'nuff said. Somebody please put a gag in Sunehri's mouth - LIKE, she needs to just wear the short skirts and dresses and keep her mouth shut. What happened to Jai's wife? Her scene is over in the blink of an eye! Some of the stunts just seem to be unbelievable, but then, so do the stunts in Mission Impossible, so it is refreshing to see that Bollywood is slowly moving out of the backwaters.

Dhoom-2 ......where?????
kpganesh1 December 2006
OK guys, lets face it. Without Hrithik the movie is nothing which otherwise too is nothing. Sorry, but that's an understatement. Where and what is the plot will someone explain??? The movie sure did showcase Hrithik's ability to take risks and do some adventurous stuff quo dos to that and a super duper physique, that girls would swoon for.

Rest of the star-cast seems to be a wasted lot. Abhishek and Ash's real life comedy seems to be showing on screen as well. Who cares what happens to them. We want some life in the character that an actor is trying to portray--not attitude show off.

And thanks to Bipasha Basu we learnt to do some aerobics. We shall try it out in a Beach when we go there!!!!!!!!

Dhoom-2 is definitely for those people who rave and rant about looks, physique and short dress. Thank you very much, but there are still some human beings who care for a movie that's makes the movie a star and not a movie where the star/s can control the story. It seems like a desperate attempt to match the rest of the guys character to that of Hrithik's stunts. But nothing to beat Ash's pre-movie self publicity indulgence of having done dare devil stunts!!! What hogwash!!!!!

Dhoom 2 raises the Bar
Guy0426 November 2006
I was expecting a lot from this one. This one seems to have everything right. Its a relief that it fulfills most of the expectations. The movie definitely raises the bar for all the Bollywood movie to come.

It starts with a train robbery by Hrithik as Aryan aka 'A' somewhere in the deserts. Mr A is a master thief who specializes in robbing the rare, perfect and priceless stuff from all over the world... He meets Aish on one of his heist in India and they decide to work as a team. On the other hand Abhi, Uday and Bips are planning a trap on him. Post intermission, the whole setup is in Brazil for the grand Finale and a couple of twists in the tale.

The story is simple as a cat and mouse game. What makes it interesting are the robberies and the techniques used. The heists are in league with steal, MI-2 (esp the diamond one). Then there is Hritik, Bips and Aish.. All the newcomers are stunning and fits the bill as cool, stylish with razor sharp dialogs. Acting wise, Abhishek had the ground set due to the prequel and he delivers dynamite. His one liners and the conversation with Uday are the soul of the movie. Uday is good but he didn't have much to do as per the story. He shud have given more footage. Hritik impresses as a calculating, stylish thief. Aish is convincing in the emotional scenes. Bips impresses in the first half and is wasted in second half.

The movie could have been better if there would have been a bit of character development and the last robbery being the best. It came as a sort of anti climax because i was expecting it to be tougher than the previous ones. Also, as in dhoom prequel, the heist were not engraved as it could have been and there were few misses here and there. The songs are good only if u watch them on the screen with the movie. They wont last on their own for long...

Overall, A must watch if u like stylish action over a weekend!!!

Too much to tolerate
paraschoudhary-124 November 2006
Viewers had too much expectations from this movie... But it turned out to be a biggest disaster... I watched the first day first show and regret it. Complete wastage of 3 hours... Hritik is the only good thing about the movie... Movie takes so many twists and turns, that it looks like they started it without a script only... there are loopholes in the script as big as grand canyon. The double role of Bipasa can't be explained in any possible way. The character of Abhishek is not at all defined... The emotions scenes are put in just for the sake of complete traditional Indian movie... It was too frustrating... I wish the distributors good luck!!!
