The Killer Filmmaker's apartment in the movie was actually the director's apartment at the time.
The end scene, in which the festival organizers watch the Killer Filmmaker's opus, pays homage to the television show Mystery Science Theater 3000, of which writer/producer/director Paul Natale is an avid fan.
Director Paul Natale edited 6 minutes (the "cell phone call in bathroom" and "café employee murder" scenes) of the 28-minute film, as well as the two films within the film, but left this credit out to give full credit to editor Steve Marchi for his tireless (and unpaid) work on the film.
The film was written in about five days and shot in four nights (from after midnight to about four a.m.) Some of the scenes, including the ending, were written and shot in the same day.
The film was mostly shot at a movie theater where the director, cinematographer, and most of the cast worked at the time.
