Charles Prince wants to get it on with the pretty young scrubwoman, but her elder, fatter colleagues keep hitting them with their brooms. Saddened, he comes across a gypsy who sells him a love powder. When he slips it into a flask of water, he finds it works, but it's the ugly women who drink it.
There's little that's surprising in this Rigadin short; everything is telegraphed well in advance, from the title onward. Even so, the exaggerated reactions of everyone, from the thwarted lover to the twitches that the drinkers of the lover philtre provide some amusement.
Charles Prince was reportedly the world's second most famous screen comic at this time, ranking only behind Max Linder. The rise of American slapstick producer Mack Sennett and World War One interrupted the arc of his career and he never recovered.
