Bill Maher Commencement Speech Petitioned
The petition, drawn up by sudent Khwaja Ahmed, reads, "Bill Maher is a blatant bigot and racist who has no respect for the values Uc Berkeley students and administration stand for. In a time where climate is a priority for all on campus, we cannot invite an individual who himself perpetuates a dangerous learning environment."
Ahmed adds, "Bill Maher's public statements on various religions and cultures are offensive and his dangerous rhetoric has found its way into our campus communities. Too many students are marginalized by his remarks and if the University were to bring this individual as a commencement speaker they would not be supporting these historically marginalized communities."

Back in 2004 Neha Dhupia created quite a furore playing the prostitute with several male admirers painting the town red and 'panting' her gown purple in Deepak Shivdasani's Julie. Now Shivdasani is back with a sequel starring Sakshi Chaudhary. This Gladrags model and wannabe actress is already making her presence felt in Bollywood. A few months ago she signed a 3-film deal with producer Feroz Nadiadwala including the lead in Hera Pheri 3 opposite John Abraham. Julie 2 we hear would be the story of not a prostitute but an actress. Says a source close to the newcomer, "Considering how controversial and steamy Neha Dhupia's role was in Julie Sakshi was apprehensive about the role. But then she heard her character in Julie 2...and flipped." It's a role apparently inspired by Rekha. Sakshi Chaudhary says, "I admit I was apprehensive. But when I heard the script I agreed at once. It is a very performance-oriented film.

Set in the not-to-distant future, Defiance introduces an exotically transformed planet Earth, in which seven unique alien races must co-exist peacefully (or as peacefully as a weekly science-fiction set series will allow) with the planet’s surviving humans. Two such humans are sisters played by Julie Benz and Mia Kirshner. New Delhi, Feb 9: Actress Neha Dhupia feels every role requires some glamour quotient.
"Nowadays everyone is glamorous. The girl next door is glamorous too. When I did 'Julie' and I did a backless shot, people were talking about it. But now everyone does it. It is not a big deal," Neha told Ians.
She believes people are two-faced in their opinion about girls who wear revealing clothes.
"When I was representing my country in a two-piece, it was fine. But when I did it on my own, it was not right (according to people). I will only not do something if it brings shame to my family," she added.
The former Miss India is known.

Thank You, this title will surely ring bells for all good and humorous reasons, as it comes from the stables of a filmmaker who has been consistent in delivering out frothy slapstick entertainers. Director Anees Bazmee pitches out another rib-tickler that has all the ingredients to attract footfalls into the theatres. Ensemble of bankable A-list actors, grandeur of exotic foreign locations, crazy slapstick comedy and to spice it all, it has Pritam's peppy music to make everything notable in days to come. In Bazmee's flicks music has always been mechanical or situational but still have grounded screenplay to its fullest potential. Thank You opens to minimal musical expectations but all the above mentioned features makes it as one of most anticipated musical releases. Can this Thank You be another Welcome surprise for listeners? Just check this out... It all started off with rehashed version of 'Apni toh jaise taise'...

There was a time when if you loved zombies, you had to break out the old VHS tapes and “strain through the grain” while that beloved layer of analog “hiss” intertwined with a raspy groan for “Brains!”. Fortunately, I guess, zombies have become nauseatingly main stream and Hollywood has been scrambling for anything “living dead” like a sparkly vampire up a tree…wait, why do I get that reference?...
If you owned a Super Nintendo and let’s face it you did, I’m sure you’ll remember Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Yep, you guessed it, film adaptation! Summit Entertainment has optioned the right to turn Julie Cross' upcoming sci-fi novel Tempest into a big screen movie. I should note that this has nothing to do with the famous William Shakespeare play or the Julie Taymor-directed big screen adaptation which hits theaters in December. Here is the plot synopsis from the author's blog: Tempest is the first in a trilogy about a 19-year-old time traveler who witnesses his girlfriend's murder and inadvertently jumps back two years; stuck there, he's recruited by a shadowy government agency run by the man he thought was his father and vows to save his girlfriend no matter the cost. No word on if the movie will be based on the three book arc or just the first book of the series. I'm assuming the latter, as that would allow for the opportunity to have a new franchise (which Summit needs as Twilight...

Photo: Hollywood Foreign Press Association The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards were held tonight and it's hard to say there were very many surprises as much as there were disappointments. Of course, I think the fact a film like Sherlock Holmes gets recognized for an award while The Hurt Locker goes home empty-handed is a complete sham. I believe Avatar is worthy of awards, but technical awards, which it will win at the Oscars, but since those aren't handed out at the Globes it means the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (Hfpa) feels the need to dote on it in categories where others are more deserving.
Avatar took home Best Picture (Drama) and director James Cameron won over the presumptive winner Kathryn Bigelow. This only causes agitation for me personally, because the whole show continued celebrity love while the smaller more deserving names were consistently overlooked.

The people who do the sitting and the writing are, surprisingly, called writers and, like the Directors, the Golden Globes and the Oscars, they have their own awards show.
This week, the Writers Guild of America, which is the trade group and advocate for writers, announced its nominations for outstanding achievement in feature film and television, radio, news, promotional writing, and graphic animation during the 2009 season to be honored at the upcoming 2010 Writers Guild Awards on February 20, 2010, in Los Angeles and New York.
We realize that these nominations may not be as glamorous as the Golden Globes or the Oscars, but we kinda like writers around here and think they do a pretty important job.

Some critics may have taken potshots at James Cameron's screenplay for "Avatar," but it has earned a nomination from the Writers Guild of America, which announced nominations for the 2010 WGA Awards on Monday.
Cameron -- who was also nominated by the WGA for "Titanic," though that movie failed to earn a best screenplay Oscar nomination -- will compete for the honor with Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber, nominated for their fractured romance "(500) Days of Summer"; Jon Lucas & Scott Moore for breakout summer comedy "The Hangover"; Mark Boal for his Iraq War study, "The Hurt Locker"; and Joel Coen & Ethan Coen for their modern-day retelling of the story of Job, "A Serious Man."
In the adapted screenplay category, the nominees are "Crazy Heart," screenplay by Scott Cooper, based on the novel by Thomas Cobb; "Julie & Julia," which Nora Ephron adapted from two books, "Julie & Julia" by Julie Powell and "My Life in France,...

Photo: Hollywood Foreign Press Association The nominations are in for the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards and the leader at the moment is Up In the Air with six nominations, followed by Nine with five and Inglourious Basterds and Avatar both earning four nominations each. Perhaps the biggest surprise for me personally is the absence of In the Loop in the Best Picture (Comedy/Musical) category as well as Peter Capaldi not getting a Best Actor (Comedy/Musical) nomination. It's a great film and this was really it's only chance and it has come up empty.
As far as nominated surprises go, Tobey Maguire getting a Best Actor (Drama) nom for Brothers is surprising, but at the same time it is well-deserved (even if I think Jake Gyllenhaal had the best performance in that flick). Coen brothers fans will be happy to see Michael Stuhlbarg getting a nomination for A Serious Man...

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced its nominations this morning for the 67th annual Golden Globes Awards. "Up in the Air" received six nominations including Best Picture, Drama, while "Nine" received five noms including Best Picture, Comedy (huh? "Nine" is definitely Not a comedy!).
"Avatar," "Inglourious Basterds," "The Hurt Locker," and "Precious" are also Best Picture, Drama contenders, while "(500) Days of Summer," "The Hangover," "It's Complicated," "Julie and Julia" complete the Best Picture, Comedy list.
Sandra Bullock received two acting nominations. One for drama for "The Blind Side" and one for comedy for "The Proposal." She's really having a terrific year!
Meryl Streep is also having a terrific year. She's a double contender for Best Actress, Comedy or Musical for "Julie and Julia" and "It's Complicated."
I enjoyed "Nine," but didn't love it, and I suspect many voters felt the same. The nominees from the film are certainly deserving especially Marion Cotillard (Best Actress,...

Neha Dhupia wanted to woo B-Town with her skin show in the beginning. She had famously said: “Only sex and Srk sells”.
Then when she couldn’t pull off that stunt as all her cheap movies like ‘Julie’ and ‘Sheesha’ flopped one after the other, she tried to turn good girl and do different movies like ‘Mithya’ etc.
She still ain’t a big star here but the buzz now is that she’s somehow managed to impress the American crew she worked with.
Boy, that sure is interesting. Never knew that Neha’s that professional. Looks more like a show to us.
She’s working.

Neha Dhupia’s proved her balancing act! On the one hand she played serious roles in non commercial films like Mithya and Dasvidaniyan, on the other she also did commercial films like Qayamat and Julie.
Now the actress is keen about Action Replay. “Neha’s asset as an actress is her ability to mould herself in any character. Whether the films are serious or non-serious Neha knows what she has to give for her character to shine out. Action Replay is hardcore commercial film and Neha is to be watched out for in that film. Ditto Pappu Can’t Dance Saala..
