A bit weird...not really into that kind of thing
henry3255 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
So at first it seems like pretty classic love triangle with one girl and two guys both gang leaders from their 2 schools. There is some fighting in the movie involving these two bad asses which is pretty cool, no wire fu here. Some of the characters left me in disbelief, I couldn't really understand the reason and lack of thinking displayed by some of the characters. Insecurities and a lack of trust plague the characters and then the noble self sacrifice comes into play a lot.

I'm not a fan of any of the characters cause of their insecurities. Also I was dumbfounded as to how the main female character became the center for everyone's infatuation, I didn't see any qualities that would leap out and snag a guy in one meeting. And as for the male characters...I don't think liking your (__this would be a spoiler__) in that way would fly too well in America.

The movie as a whole was okay. It delivered to its audience, if you wanted action, drama, and romance wrapped into one movie, here it is. 5/10 I think one of the comments on here compared it to My tutor friend or 100 days with Mr. Arrogant, and My Sassy girl. This is a different kind of genre, I didn't find them to really be in the same category, the other movies were funny. This one had much more action and drama than comedy and romance.

It was cute, then it got weird
lmerana8 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
First, how did they become brother and sisters was confusing. Why did he had to die in the end? Why are they fighting because of this girl? Good thing the leads have chemistry and the sister was crazy scary. Hence, five.

love triangle with lots of clichés thrown in
hsin_ya21 April 2007
My motif to see this movie was mainly Kang Dong-Won, who is one of the two lead actors of this film. I first saw him in the movie "Maundy Thursday" aka "Our Happy Time", and thought he did a convincing job (movie recommended!). KDW shot to stardom when he appeared in "A Romance of Their Own", and even took home an award for best new-comer. When I saw this movie, however, I must say that I was kind of disappointed.

The acting overall was flat, and the story felt rushed, not to say cliché and often times off-putting. People who are familiar with Korean dramas/movies will definitely recognize the formulas used here.

However, I still have to give kudos to the choreographer of the fight scenes used in this movie. It was quite exciting to watch, although a bit short. As to why the movie is called "Temptation of Wolves", I do not know, but the beginning credits do show us the sun setting and the cry of a wolf! The first half of the movie was upbeat and refreshing, with a touch of naiveté. The second half, however, dragged on too long, and the plot became too troublesome, so that somehow the ending made sense.

Not much of a comedy more of Tragic Drama with Clichés
gray_kitty1 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
If you are well aware of Korean Dramas and Movies .. This movie might not offer something new to you.. The story seemed to be cliché ridden with classic Korean tragic twists. None the less the movie is well made, with excellent soundtrack (even the KDW's song was good). The story is good although very disturbing at certain point (I'm not up for incest).. Kang Dong Won did an excellent job acting along with rest of the cast. However it is not a comedy story or an action film .. it falls into drama category.

Story stars with an average looking girl moving to Seoul and 2 high school rival gang leaders falling in love with her charming personality (one of them being her biological brother)...

The story could've been better if they had skipped the falling in love with the sister part instead focus on building their relationship as new found siblings, while trying to protect the sister from the rival gang leader. I didn't mind the dying part though..

Overall I'm giving it 8 stars..

A story of mixed feelings of a brother for his half sister when he himself is in the last stages of his life..
hitidoll6 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Though the concept is more suitable for a drama, the actors have well acted in their roles. The story is amazing but way too long for a movie. Still many people might still think this story to be a little 90s type. But for me this story works. Though I still think that the movie could have been presented in a different yet amazing way. I would rate this movie a 6 & because of its characters being enacted well. Still the movie can go for a remake with new actors and a new script in hand. Also the fighting scenes were fine which needed a little more working. But the actors were cute and suited the characters amazingly. The dialogues were above average and locations are fine. Still it feels like the movie is incomplete.

Pretentious, sappy and cliché love triangle movie
KineticSeoul13 November 2013
This movie might have worked as a 12 or even 6 episode drama. But as a movie, it just falls flat with no substance. It's just a really cheesy and cliché love triangle flick. Just about everything about this flick is so darn pretentious and sappy, I got tired of it early on. Maybe it might have worked for the early or even late 90's maybe. But for a movie that came out in 2004, it's pretty bad. The plot is about two popular guys in high school liking one mundane and annoying girl that can't make up her mind. And just goes back and forth and back and forth. Oh and these pretty boys knows how to fight...What a shocker. It's like they came up with bunch of cliché scenarios but didn't know how to proficiently connect it all into a 2 hour movie. Girls might dig this flick because it has Kang Dong-Won in it with a pointless scene with him running while holding the hand of a girl in the rain. Which is one of his trademark scenes in his career, but when it comes to the story for that scene it goes nowhere. I was like, so what was the point of that? Overall, it might be a passable one watch deal but when it even comes to sappy romance movies, this one falls short.

What a pleasant surprise!
divemaster139 February 2010
I was geared up to not like this movie, and the first 10 minutes or so did nothing to allay my fears. It starts off with 2 high school gangs squaring off against each other with bad kung-fu. A scenario found in countless other Korean films. Ho-hum. Add the fact that the story was written by the same guy who wrote "He Was Cool" (which was barely passable) and, well, I thought I was in for a nondescript 2 hours.

But don't give up so quickly! "A Romance of Their Own" was directed by Tae-gyun Kim, who also did "Volcano High" (which I thought was loads of fun). Anyway, "Romance of Their Own" soon takes a turn much for the better. A high school girl, just having moved to Seoul, finds herself in the middle of attention from two prospective suitors. Each guy has his own merit, and it is not clear which one (if either) would be the right pick.

What follows is not your usual teen love triangle. The emotions are complex, and while you may not agree with certain choices or actions as the film develops, you can certainly understand why the characters make them.

The movie asks questions of the characters and the audience. Who does one choose? At what point is one obligated to even make a choice (and is it unfair to one if it seems he is being strung along)? After you (or your heart) has made a choice, how do you react (and how *should* you react) when new information comes up that sheds new light on the situation? There is one scene, near the end, that is very subtle but perfectly captures what I think would be a real-life reaction instead of over-the-top "movie reaction." The subtlety is in a character in the background of the scene. Recent events and revelations have left him confused and emotionally overwhelmed. Basically, he doesn't know what to make of things. Instead of having him "act out" something, or look all gape-mouthed dumbstruck, he just stares off at some fixed point unable to react or say anything at all. It's like someone just pulled the plug on him. His reaction rang true to me and I appreciated the scene.

Like most Korean films, there is a mix of action, bravado, slapstick, and melodrama. Korean films often take abrupt turns (see, "Sex Is Zero" for a great example), which can be quite a shock for the uninitiated. Go ahead and initiate yourself with this one. Like it, love it, or hate it, I think most viewers will be able to relate to and appreciate the characters' actions and reactions.

Every K drama cliche
phd_travel30 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This ridiculous story involves a love triangle where 2 hot guys vie for the attentions of a plain girl. Every teenager girl's fantasy. Some silly fighting scenes. Lots of K drama have a fake brother sister forbidden romance but this one involves a blood relationship. It crosses the line. Gross! Only for fans of Kang Dong Won.

The beatings are awesome, but the story's just as good
kizumigreendale24 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this because a friend told me it was damn good, and I watched a video on it, so I was really into watching it. I watched it, and, damn, the fighting scenes are REALLY good. If the guys can't fight like that in real life, they sure fooled me. There isn't as much fighting as I would like, I have to say, but the fights that are in the movie are pretty spectacular. They don't show much, but you can tell it's violent and cool. But there's also the plot, that goes around a love triangle between the main characters, though it's a bit twisted. Tae-sung is a carefree guy who seems to love getting into trouble, as well as fights. He's the leader of his school, and is the rival of Hea-won, who's the leader of his own school - a bit of a playboy, hot-headed and a rich boy. Then there's Han-kyung, a girl with not a lot going for her - her father just passed away and she moved back with her mother, the guy she liked is dating her old friend -, and then she meets Hea-won, who goes to her school, and Tae-sung, who calls her "nuna" (older sister). Eventually, she discovers Tae-sung is her brother, fruit of one of her father's affair, and he loves her despite of their blood relation. Meanwhile, Hea-won falls for her, and takes her as his boyfriend. But she is torn between her boyfriend and her little brother, who confesses her love to her. Overall, it's a wonderful movie, but if I was really depressed after the end, and I just couldn't help but think, Damn, are all Korean movie I watch about fighting/death/depressing stuff/incest?? 'Cause that sure was the case with Old Boy, and Temptation of Wolves. It's a very good movie, but people have to be ready to cry at the end.

Could have been great
steli-os5 January 2021
Most comments mention "cliches". I generally preffer to watch movies or series without thinking if what I'm watching had been used in an other production. I did the same with this one. I have to say that I really liked the general concept of the story, even though it's not the type of movies I like to watch (I thought that this is mainly a comedy). But I find the execution to be bad. Poor acting, bad directing and the pace is mental. It should have been slower so we can appreciate and better understand the scenes. Of course this would require some scenes to be excluded and there are some (mainly the fight scenes) that could be left out. 4 stars for the story

Refreshing romantic comedy.
stpk44 September 2006
It's nice to see a romantic comedy that does not have the prissy man lead, this has solid acting from both male leads and also from the female lead and although the story is a little long and a little cliché you cant help but like it.

I think the story was a little rushed at the end, but extending that would have made the story even longer. Superior to other romantic comedies such as 100 days with Mr arrogant, and possibly tied with my tutor friend.

It would make an interesting introduction to Korean cinema, not as great as My sassy girl, but still good.

Gorgeous..
xinsanexbloodyxprincess11 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Let's face it.

This movie is incredibly cliché, as Korean romance dramas and movies go. First of all, there's a pair of long-lost siblings, one of which falls in love with the other. Second, there's a not-so-popular girl and two gorgeous, popular guys who fall for and fight over her. Third, one of the characters suffers from a tragic disease, which, eventually, takes his life.

Still, I like this movie.

Without the right actors, this movie would probably have disappointed fans of the novel. But because the actors fit the roles perfectly, the movie is engrossing--I honestly couldn't stop watching. Kang Dong Won, despite his pretty face, gives an awesome, heartrending performance, not to mention Lee Chung Ah and Jo Han Sun, plus all the supporting actors.

I'd definitely recommend this movie to everyone.

Cute
ultimatesin721 December 2008
I really liked this movie. One thing I have noticed is that Korean TV drama's are way better, as far as giving you the whole story. I watch movies when I do not have the time or feel like going through 16-30 episodes. Movies are seem to be rushed and if you do not watch carefully, you may miss something.

I do feel this one was rushed and I had to rewind a few parts to try and find what I missed, especially towards at the end. If you like nice love stories, I still think this is cute, and if yo have the extra time, I still think this is worth watching.

It is always nice to go back follow the actors in different movies as we do not get to follow them from when they begin, as we do the actors producers and directors in our own countries.
