The Marvel fandom was clearly divided when Robert Downey Jr. was unmasked as the next Doctor Doom at the San Diego Comic-Con.
Half the fandom felt disappointed, as this clearly besmirched the reputation of Iron Man, a character who was killed off in heroic fashion at the conclusion of Avengers: End Game.
(Photo by Jesse Grant/Getty Images for Disney)
The other half, though, continued to stick by the casting decision, having faith not only in Robert Downey Jr. as a shrewd and talented actor but also in the vision of Anthony and Joe Russo, who have never steered Marvel wrong.
Many have speculated that the recasting is nothing more than a money move since Marvel universe projects have faltered since 2020.
There’s also that little scandal about Kang, played underwhelmingly by Jonathan Majors, which undoubtedly contributed to Marvel’s rescheduling of some climactic plots.

In 2008, comic book movies were just starting out. Films like ‘X-Men’ and ‘Spider-Man’ showed what comic book movies could achieve when done right. Then, Marvel Studios came along and changed everything. ‘Iron Man’ marked the beginning of the MCU and set a new standard for superhero films. It’s had a huge impact, sparking a phenomenon that transformed cinema forever.
The movie was a box-office hit, received critical acclaim, and earned numerous awards for the studio. That’s why, even years later, it’s still remembered and cherished. In a recent interview with People, Jon Favreau shared insights into making ‘Iron Man,’ particularly how real-life banter between Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow inspired the film’s dialogue.

Taylor Swift Changes Profile Pics to Black-and-White, Possibly Teasing reputation (Taylor’s Version)
Taylor Swift has changed all of her profile pictures across social media to black-and-white, prompting speculation that she may be teasing the release of reputation (Taylor’s Version). Update: After she won the award for Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights at the 2024 Grammy Awards, Swift made an unexpected announcement: she will be releasing a “brand new” album, The Tortured Poets Department, on April 19th.
The mysterious move was noticed on Sunday morning, when eagle-eyed Swifties reported that Swift’s profile pictures — a shot of her from the artwork of Midnights — were switched out for black-and-white versions. If Swifties’ cryptographic skills are on-point, this could be a reference to the black-and-white aesthetics of Swift’s 2017 release, reputation.
Backing Swifties’ case, there have been murmurs of a forthcoming reputation re-release for a few weeks. For starters, since the arrival of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) last October, reputation and Swift’s self-titled debut...

“Entrepreneurship and acting are very similar. Both require the same kind of energy,” Goop CEO and Academy Award-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow told a crowd during a career retrospective this evening at the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia.
Paltrow was among a series of high-profile names, including Halle Berry, Andrew Garfield, and Nic Cage, who were announced as late additions to the festival’s popular ‘In-Conversation’ sidebar in Jeddah. This evening’s talk was brief in length compared to previous Q&a sessions here at Red Sea, with festival co-chief Jomana Alrashid leading the conversation through Paltrow’s early acting career and transition to Goop founder.
“I just took a chance, and people were really surprised. They didn’t understand what I was doing,” Paltrow said of her transition from Hollywood to wellness brand owner. “I’m really happy I did it because I’ve learned so much through...

Taylor Swift performs two surprise songs for the acoustic set during every show of her Eras Tour and she has already performed a ton of incredible tracks during the first U.S. leg.
The 33-year-old singer is getting ready to launch the South American leg of the tour and you might be wondering what songs are remaining.
Taylor made a rule that she’s allowed to repeat songs if she messes them up the first time or if they’re from Midnights, her most recent studio album.
It’s unclear if Taylor is going to continue these rules for the remainder of the tour as she’ll likely reach the point where she has no more songs left to perform!

Ever since Taylor Swift released "Reputation" in 2017, fans have been trying to unpack exactly who and what the songs are about. "Reputation" arrived during a particularly drama-filled moment in Swift's life; most notoriously, she was in the thick of her infamous feud with Kanye West and his then-wife Kim Kardashian, and it certainly seems like "Reputation" was her official statement on all that. There was also a lot going on in Swift's life in the love department, and the album also seems to trace the whirlwind early days of her romance with Joe Alwyn, whom she began dating in 2017 and split from in April 2023. Her relationships with Tom Hiddleston and Calvin Harris may have also gotten a few special mentions, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. With "Reputation," Swift had a lot to say - and she certainly did not hold back.
It's not clear when exactly "Reputation (Taylor's Version)" is coming,...

Marvel star Zoe Saldaña admitted she had a few odd concerns when portraying Guardians of the Galaxy member Gamora. After nabbing the part, she couldn’t help think about how attractive she would’ve looked as the alien.

The part of Gamora was perhaps as close to a guarantee for Saldaña as there had ever been. In the documentary The Making of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, director James Gunn revealed that Saldana was his first choice for the character. And she was the only actor Gunn had in mind for the beginning that ended up playing the desired character.

Taylor Swift announced the official release date for "1989 (Taylor's Version)" this August, but some fans have their eyes on what they think will be the next rerecording after that: "Reputation (Taylor's Version)." Fans got a small preview of one of the album's songs when a snippet of "Delicate (Taylor's Version)" surfaced from a season two episode of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" on Aug. 3, indicating that the rerecorded version is definitely in progress. And on Aug. 23, Amazon Prime Video released the trailer for its upcoming series "Wilderness," and it features the first snippet of "Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)."
However, fans may still have to wait a while for the album, as Ed Sheeran - who appears on the track "End Game" on the original "Reputation" - revealed this summer that he hadn't yet been back to the studio to work on the new version. In an Aug.

‘Shape of You’ singer Ed Sheeran still has not got the call from Taylor Swift to record a new take on ‘End Game’, the song they recorded together for Swift’s 2017 album ‘Reputation’.During a stop on Andy Cohen’s ‘Deep & Shallow Podcast’ on Sirius Xm, the host asked Sheeran, 32, if he and Swift, 33, recorded a new version of ‘End Game’ yet. “No, I haven’t. No. No. But 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is the next one coming out. That’s the next one,” the ‘Eyes Closed’ singer told Cohen, reports People magazine.
The topic came up after Cohen asked Sheeran if he was checking out Swift’s Eras Tour and Beyonce’s Renaissance Tour, which are coincidentally going on at the same time as Sheeran’s Subtract Tour.
“I think what’s nice about everyone’s show is everyone’s show is so individual to them,” Sheeran explained. “And everyone’s got a different show,...

Steven Ungerleider, the author, sports psychologist and co-founder of Sidewinder Films, the label behind documentaries about the USA Gymnastics scandal, the 1972 Munich Olympics and Arthur Ashe, has died. He was 73.
Ungerleider died Saturday in Healdsburg, California, after an eight-month battle with pancreatic cancer, The Foundation for Global Sports Development announced. He founded the organization in 1996 to promote “accessible, fair and abuse-free sport for youth through grants, awards and educational projects.”
Ungerleider produced HBO’s At the Heart of Gold: Inside the USA Gymnastics Scandal (2019), the Erin Lee Carr-directed film that focused on the sexual-abuse victims of convicted USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.
“Steven always fought for what was right, no matter what, especially advocating for those who had been wronged and silenced by institutional failures,” Foundation for Global Sports Development executive board member David Ulich said in a statement.

Thanks to the 15-year-long machinations of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, much of superhero cinema has become about — on a fundamental level — the elaborate, interconnectedness of its own widespread universe. While each individual superhero film may have its own miniature climax and any number of fantastical fist fights between supernaturally fueled pugilists, many of them now end with a hint or a preview as to the next chapter in a seemingly unending film series. The notion of a standalone superhero movie is more or less moribund.
This, perhaps, unfortunately, leaves many superhero movies feeling frustratingly empty. One would have to engage in some pretty difficult cognitive cardio to find the messages and the themes in something like "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania." Is it about the dangers of fascism? The bonds of family? The eternal fight between good and evil? Couldn't any of these themes be applied to any superhero movie?...

The Ant-Man movies are comfortably part of the cinema landscape today. However, when the movies were first being developed, fans and the creatives weren’t sure how the oddball character would translate to film. After some behind-the-scenes misfires, Paul Rudd and the Marvel team landed on an interpretation that audiences loved.
How did a superhero with a funny name, a sketchy past, and a strange power set, wind up as a key figure in modern blockbuster cinema? In part, it’s thanks to input from creator Stan Lee himself.
Paul Rudd has played Ant-Man for nearly a decade
Rudd officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 2015’s Ant-Man. After establishing his take on Scott Lang — the second Ant-Man after Hank Pym, played by Michael Douglas — he made a guest appearance in Captain America: Civil War in 2016.

When Jon Favreau stepped onto the red carpet for the Season 3 premiere of “The Mandalorian” on Feb. 28, the Disney+ show’s creator and executive producer was feeling nostalgic.
“It’s been a while since we’ve been all together here like this,” Favreau told Variety, evoking the November 2019 premiere for the launch of the show — and of Disney+ itself. “It was before the first episode aired!”
At that time, “The Mandalorian” was a scrappy landspeeder in the vast “Star Wars” galaxy, nipping at the heels of “The Rise of Skywalker,” the culminating feature film from director J.J. Abrams that was expected just a month later to obliterate the box office like a cinematic Death Star. Instead, “The Mandalorian” became a global sensation thanks to the incandescent cuteness of Baby Yoda, blasting Disney+ into light-speed with 26.5 million subscribers in its first six weeks.

Fans of NCIS: Los Angeles will have to wait a little longer for the series finale of the hit CBS series, but there's some good news.
According to Parade, the series-ender has been shifted to Sunday, May 21, 2023.
The good news is that it has been expanded to a two-hour event, which is far more exciting for a show ending after 14 seasons.
Saying goodbye will be difficult, but a proper ending has been crafted thanks to the show getting a heads up about NCIS: Los Angeles Season 14 being the last season.
Showrunner R. Scott Gemmill opened up about the difficult task of ending the arcs for the characters.
He acknowledged a satisfying ending is tough "because there's so much expectation, and how do you live up to that?"
Gemmill said that the best foot forward was to focus on the characters one-by-one and examine how to put them in a happy place in their lives.

It's amazing how much a narrative can change in just two weeks. "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quntumania" debuted with a record-setting $106 million on its opening weekend, a franchise-best for "Ant-Man" and yet another win for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This being the first film in Phase 5 of the MCU, which is all leading to "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty" and "Avengers: Secret Wars," it was really important for Marvel Studios and Disney that this film performed well. So hey, it looked good out of the gate, despite the very mixed critical response (read our spoiler review here). Unfortunately, the long-term outlook is looking not-so-great and one has to wonder what that might mean in the grand scheme of things.
In its third weekend, "Quantumania" lost handily to "Creed III" and took in a mere $12.5 million. That represents a 61% drop week-to-week, which is particularly bad news given that director Peyton Reed's...

Prime Video has released the first trailer for "Citadel," its long-gestating spy action thriller series, executive produced by Joe and Anthony Russo and starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. All four creatives were on hand with showrunner David Weil for a virtual press conference, which doubled as a trailer launch event, live from Los Angeles today.
It's been a long road for "Citadel" to the small screen, and along the way, the series has racked up one of the biggest budgets of any TV show ever made. This is nothing new for Prime Video, which also spent almost half a billion dollars on season 1 of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power." However, "Citadel" is attempting to create a new global franchise, with this first seven-episode series, led by Madden and Chopra, kicking off a slate of international spin-offs set in places like India, Italy, and Mexico.

People eagerly anticipate the continuing adventures of their favorite Marvel characters and tend to go back week after week after week giving the films legs that other movies would be envious of. When the Marvel Cinematic Universe began with “Iron Man” in 2008, star Robert Downey Jr. was 43 years old. At the time, Xochitl Gomez was two. “I literally didn’t live in a world without it,” the “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” star points out.
And she’s far from the only new face in today’s MCU who grew up as the franchise took over pop culture. In 2008, “Ms. Marvel” breakout Iman Vellani was six years old. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” actress Dominique Thorne was 10. “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” star Kathryn Newton was 11.
Now, all four women are part of the next big wave of heroes, a group that, as a whole, is far younger than the men and women who started this universe.
