Sex & Nudity

  • A woman is gang raped and although nothing physical is shown it is very disturbing and obvious what is happening
  • Dialogue contains mild sexual references and innuendo.
  • Some cleavage is shown but other than that the movie is pretty clean for the category
  • Nude paintings of women in the background of the judges house easy to miss
  • The voluptuous Mrs. Lovett wears dresses that reveal cleavage, she would even use her low-cut corset to conceal small items such as a coin-purse on one brief moment.

Violence & Gore

  • This film is FILLED to the brim with blood (especially the second half) every kill is very bloody and stylised which means they are all dependent on the blood in them, the film is also very dark and depressing despite its musical format. It does not have a happy ending by any means, and although the blood isn't realistic for the first two kills, it gets more realistic as the film goes on.
  • A man gets beat to death with kettle.
  • A bunch of like assorted human body parts.
  • A man stabs a guy in close-up as blood splatters on the window.
  • The blood in this movie while at times a lot is very unrealistic, most of the violence is off screen or quickly seen. It's at times unrealistically bloody which makes it not that disturbing
  • Some throat slitting with exaggerated amounts of blood is gory but unrealistic and silly.
  • Cannibalism is a main theme throughout this movie, all of Sweeney's victims are made into human meat pies by Mrs. Lovett, which are then fed to customers. Many people are shown eating and enjoying them. While the process of them being made into meat pies isn't shown besides Sweeney slitting their throats of course. This idea is obviously very morbid, dark, and disturbing.
  • A meat grinder is shown grinding human meat. Though it looks very computer generated and fake.
  • A woman is thrown into a furnace and burned to death(much is shown).
  • Character is dropped upside down and his brains explode upon impact with the ground. Very quick but very gory.
  • A man is pushed on the floor & hit in the back with a cane repeatedly. The result is a bloody mouth.
  • A boy is slapped in the face. He is hit a couple more times off-camera.
  • A teapot is smashed into a man's face and blood comes out of his mouth.
  • The main character slits many characters' throats with a straight razor. Blood is shown spurting from their necks. This is done in a sequence with a lot of singing, so it's almost kind of comical

Profanity

  • Milder profanity such as "damn," "piss," and "hell" used infrequently
  • Four uses of "shit"

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A young boy becomes very excited when a woman offers him gin. Later, she finds the boy curled up on the floor from drinking too much with the bottle in his hands
  • A woman pours a glass of gin for a man who drinks it slowly
  • A woman is seen drinking at a masquerade ball and becomes visibly intoxicated. It is implied that she may have been drugged.
  • A man passes a room filled with people who are smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This is NOT a happy story. This story contains: cannibalism, revenge, lust, grief, betrayal, corruption, rape, and more; all of which could be unsettling for any viewer.
  • Lots of animalistic murder being shown in brutal ways which can be disturbing and unsettling to many viewers. Lots of scary behavior and psychotic behavior.
  • One musical number is focused on the eating of different types of humans(priest, grocer, lawyer etc.) and how they would "taste". This can be particularly unsettling to some viewers.
  • A woman talks about how her rival in the meat pie industry has been using her neighbors cats as meat. This can be unsettling to animal lovers and regular viewers alike.
  • The fact that its a musical film makes it less severe , however still quite dark.
  • A bloody, unconscious victim is layed inside a chest. Soon after, part of their hand is sticking out while twitching a little bit.
  • The landlady makes meat pies as a business. Not making much money, she then uses the victims' meat as her pies. In the movie, it doesn't show her actually making the human pies. But in one scene, a boy is down in the cellar/bakehouse. He takes a bite of a pie & pulls a human finger out of his mouth. Then, he looks over & sees some skeletons of humans that were stripped for meat. Then, it shows the meat grinder filled with bloody humans, & the boys picks up an amputated hand with missing fingers. All of a suddenly, a body comes out of the trapdoor above landing on the floor.
  • A man is sent to an insane asylum. In the room, there are many people (mostly women) that are shaking, crying, moaning, etc. The owner is then attacked by all of them, while they all scream.
