While the first Disney+ K-drama, "Snowdrop," may have been met with controversy, the platform has thankfully continued distributing South Korean shows to great success. This includes 2023's "Moving," which set the record for the most watched Korean Disney+ and Hulu exclusive show. The series adapts the popular webtoon of the same name by Kang Full, blending espionage thrills, science-fiction stakes, and superhero action. Well-received worldwide, "Moving" and its vocal fan base is a strong reminder that Netflix isn't the only international platform with a robust selection of original K-dramas.
"Moving" centers on a group of former operatives for the Agency for National Security Planning, a black ops predecessor to South Korea's current National Intelligence Service. Used by their government for their superpowers on increasingly morally compromised missions, the agents decided to drop off the grid and start new, peaceful lives. However, as their teenage children begin to exhibit powers of their own years later,...

One of the interesting things about getting older as a movie fan is that – at some point – you realize that folks you once considered young up-and-comers suddenly aren’t so young many more. Granted, Michael Angarano is only five years younger than me, but for some reason, when I think of him, I immediately picture him as the likeable teen star of Sky High – an underrated Disney superhero flick from the 2000s. Of course, he’s been around for twenty years since then and has never stopped churning out good work, with him especially good on Steven Soderbergh’s The Knick, and the short-lived Showtime drama, I’m Dying Up Here.
Last weekend, Angarano released his feature directorial debut, Sacramento, which he also wrote and stars in. In it, he plays a young man coming to terms with the fact that his perpetual, everlasting adolescence is coming to an inevitable end.

Michael Angarano and Michael Cera have been on screen for most of their lives. Both former child actors, each grew into an adult in front of audiences during the aughts — for Angarano, as Sean Hayes’ son in “Will and Grace” or the nepo-superhero of Disney’s teen actioner “Sky High”; for Cera, in the meaner streak comedies of “Arrested Development” and “Superbad.” But that particularly intense spotlight — being the on-screen representation for a millennial generation then coming into consciousness — is less of a burden in their mid-thirties.
“Almost 20 years ago, I would get really anxious walking by a high school because the kids would know who I was and they create a frenzy of energy that you’re not able to withstand. But now I feel very comfortable walking by a high school, because I know they have no idea who I am,” Cera says with a laugh.

Superhero films and shows have been everywhere for years, to the point that it almost takes more effort to avoid them. And, with the widespread popularity of the MCU, the recent success of Deadpool & Wolverine, and the impending release of Supermanthat will launch a new interconnected franchise, superheroes show no signs of fading. Alongside the genre's rapid growth, parodies have become mainstream. Just look at The Boysand the growing universe it represents. Yet heroes, and more to the point, spoofs on heroes, are not a new thing. Long before the superhero genre hit peak popularity, Disney released a parody in the form of Sky High.

Sky High, a superhero movie with somewhat spoof elements like The Boys, would have used the Prime Video show's spin-off premise much earlier had the canceled sequel come to fruition. Sky High and The Boys are vastly different superhero properties, but that is not to say they do not share some similarities. Although Sky High is much less mature than The Boys and the way they depict superheroes is different, both projects contain elements that parody the worlds of Marvel, DC, and other popular franchises.
As the wait for The Boys season 5's story goes on, audiences are not only waiting to see how the show will end but also how its more humorous moments will parody the tropes of superheroes and their powers. As alluded to, Sky High's many characters spoof the superhero genre in a similar way, which would definitely have continued in a second film. Unfortunately,...

Kurt Russell sure has an illustrious career. We've seen him play a living planet, Wyatt Earp, Santa Claus, and (depending on whether you stand with MacReady or Childs in "The Thing") the killer of a shape-shifting alien. This guy has done it all and more, which makes it understandable that there are so many favorites to choose from. Ask the man himself, though, and there's a trio of Kurt Russell gems that he thinks were massively overlooked.
The big three were selected during an interview with FilmInk when the actor was promoting "The Hateful Eight." After the eight-year gap between his then-fresh new collaboration with Quentin Tarantino, the duo's first pairing was just starting to get some love, as well. "I'm beginning to have people come up to me, now, and say, 'I just saw 'Death Proof'; that was great,'" recalled Russell. The film, which was part...

Prime Video's The Boys may be the primary superhero parody show of late, but a movie of this style from 20 years ago may have been better in many ways and still deserves a sequel. The Boys parodies many Marvel/DC heroes, as well as several other popular superhero franchises as their characters. This is only expected to continue in the highly anticipated story of The Boys season 5, with the show's ending likely still finding the time to poke fun at its superhero competitors.
The Boys is often considered one of the best superhero parody TV shows, primarily for its well-written humor but also for its ability to tell an engaging, compelling story in its own right. The best spoof shows tend to do this, from the best Batman parodies to those riffing on Marvel Comics. Interestingly, one such project came long before The Boys yet receives little attention of late...

Sci-fi has been a staple of cinematic history since the early days of Hollywood. The genre explores concepts that go beyond reality's capabilities, making film the perfect medium for these types of stories. On-screen sci-fi first garnered widespread popularity during the 1950s, mainly due to technological advancements and stylistic changes. However, it's had a strong presence in cinema since the beginning of the 20th century. Georges Méliès' 1902 masterpiece A Trip to the Moon is often cited as the earliest and most iconic sci-fi picture.
Since then, the genre has grown considerably. Several new sci-fi movies are coming out in 2025 that will surely be successful in theaters. Time and again, projects of this nature dominate box office numbers and captivate audiences. Sci-fi also holds the title of the highest-grossing film ever made, Avatar, which will continue its story with the new sequel Avatar: Fire and Ash. In consideration of the genre's history,...

Kurt Russells career renaissance was one of the more delightful and welcome storylines in the film industry during the 2010s. While he rose to stardom in the 80s and early 90s, throughout the 2000s, Russell played mostly smaller roles some that were often the best parts of their films, like in Sky High or took on parts in films that didnt necessarily cross over to the mainstream public, such as his turn in Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof. However, in 2015, the actor starred in two Westerns back-to-back that showcased his talents and also became two of the most talked about films of the year: Bone Tomahawk and The Hateful Eight.

Both Kurt Russell and Bruce Campbell co-starred in a superhero movie, Sky High, three years before the beginning of the MCU, and their film desperately needs a sequel. Sky High focuses on the students of a high school designed to train teenage superheroes to use their powers. Russell plays Steve Stronghold, the father of Will (Michael Angarano) and a superhero who goes by the name "The Commander." Campbell plays the high school's gym teacher, Coach Boom. Both Russell and Campbell were great in Sky High, but there's a more important reason it deserves a sequel.

The 1975 TV series "Wonder Woman" is deeply beloved by dutiful Gen-Xers who watched it as children. The show's combination of silly action, funky music, and campy humor hit a sweet spot, presenting the title heroine as bold, strong, and capable, but also upbeat, happy, and capable of whimsy. Also, because lead actress Lynda Carter is so dazzling, many Gen-Xers may confess to having a crush on Wonder Woman at some point. The series was a hit, lasting 59 episodes over three seasons. Along with 1952's "The Adventures of Superman," 1966's "Batman," and 1978's "The Incredible Hulk," "Wonder Woman" was, for many decades, one of the most celebrated superhero TV shows ever made.

Kurt Russell delivered an unforgettable performance as Colonel Jack ONeill in the 1994 sci-fi blockbuster movie, Stargate, but he chose not to make an appearance in its follow-up TV series. Directed by Roland Emmerich, the movie was an adventure of sorts that featured a unique premise about an ancient portal connecting Earth to distant worlds. Russells character, crucial to the movie, was a hardened military man with a skeptical attitude; he led the expedition and braved a desert landscape filled with unknown dangers. The first entry in the Stargate universe, it was a box office success, grossing nearly $200 million worldwide.

This side of "Star Trek" or "Doctor Who," it's hard to find a sci-fi TV show that had a more successful run than "Stargate Sg-1." The series, which is based on Roland Emmerich's 1994 movie "Stargate," ran for 10 seasons and more than 200 episodes, even switching networks along the way. For the actors involved, it was the sort of steady paycheck that is hard to come by in Hollywood. So, does Kurt Russell have any regrets about not reprising his role as Jack O'Neill? It sure doesn't sound like it.

Bruce Campbell has played supporting roles in so many films and TV shows, he once wrote a fictionalized autobiography -- "Make Love! The Bruce Campbell Way" -- about how his biggest possible break would be playing a sage-like doorman in a high-profile Hollywood drama starring Richard Gere and Renée Zellweger. In the fake Hollywood movie, Campbell would be the character to dole out advice to the lead characters and get their lives on track. It's telling that Campbell, even in a fictional version of Hollywood, didn't cast himself as the leading man.
Of course, Campbell has rarely been romantic about acting. He takes his craft seriously, but sees it more as a blue-collar profession than a heady art that requires years of study. Given that Campbell started his career getting splashed with fake blood in a series of zero-budget monster movies, this attitude is understandable. The ironic twist in "Make Love!

Over the years, many horror movies have paid homage to 1981's The Evil Dead in ways both large and small. One of the most notable entries is 2011's The Cabin in the Woods, which deconstructs the titular subgenre. Nico Mastorakis has an uncanny ability of pulling ideas from various sources and running them through the Cuisinart of his peculiar sensibility, producing something altogether idiosyncratic. The six films assembled in Arrow Video’s new box set—one evocative religious allegory and five bawdy action comedies—testify to Mastorakis’s skills as a pop-cultural bricoleur. As a result, they serve as a series of variably amusing time capsules, deploying plenty of medium-specific references that might just delight viewers who came of age in the 1980s and early ’90s. Sky High and Gen V explore themes of teenage superpowers, one with a family-friendly approach while the other is R-rated. A Sky High TV series could offer a diverse range of character stories, catering to a wider audience than a movie sequel. Gen V targets adults and older teens, leaving out younger viewers, while Sky High could provide a teen-friendly alternative.
Gen V has given us a look into how a group of college students would act if given superpowers. The spinoff of The Boys is just as raunchy and R-rated as the original. Sky High, on the other hand, dealt with similar themes of superhero adolescence with a much more PG slant. Though the film was released in 2005, the concept has since brought back into public discourse, with Bruce Campbell recently pitching an idea for a sequel Sky High series.

Bruce Campbell pitches a potential Sky High reboot as a TV series, revealing he's open to returning as Coach Boomer for a revival. Sky High has an enduring appeal, with many of its cast members continuing to appear in the superhero genre. With the superhero genre still thriving and audiences familiar with superhero tropes, Campbell's Sky High pitch holds promise.
At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Bruce Campbell pitches a potential reboot of his and Kurt Russell's 2005 Disney superhero movie Sky High. Starring Campbell as a superhero-turned-teacher with a destructive voice, the movie followed a young teen with two celebrated hero parents enrolling in a school for potential heroes as he waits for his latent powers to kick in. A success with critics and at the box office, Sky High has attracted a cult following, and many of its stars have returned to the comic book movie subgenre in the following years.

Bruce Campbell is ready for a Burn Notice spinoff. The actor, who starred as retired covert operative and former Navy Seal Sam Axe in all seven seasons of the USA Network series, recently shared that he is down to appear in a new project set in the universe.
"Give me a buzz, man," said Campbell while speaking to Collider at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. "Heck yeah, Sam Axe, in a second." While there are currently no official plans for a Burn Notice sequel, the original series did end on a rather open-ended note regarding Axes next moves, leaving plenty of room for a potential spin-off. Campbell even shared what he believed his character would currently be up to, saying, "Sam [Axe] would be in Key Largo winning the Hemingway lookalike contest with a big beard because hes got nothing to do now. Grow a beard and imitate Hemingway."

Bruce Campbell is interested in reuniting with Kurt Russel in a Sky High revival series. The 2005 Disney cult film followed superpowered teenagers and their trials in superhero high school.
The possibility of a Sky High sequel is something Campbell has already expressed interest in. When Disney bought 20th Century Fox in 2018, Fox’s big R-rated, foul-mouthed, quippy hit Deadpool was riding high on its first sequel, which came quickly after the 2016 Ryan Reynolds-led movie broke out. Even though the character came from the Marvel label, it was hard to imagine him fitting comfortably into the less edgy PG-13 Marvel Cinematic Universe owned by Disney, at least short of censoring what made the character, as invented by Reynolds, so much fun.
Now six years later, adding another infamous Marvel character, Wolverine from the X-Men Fox franchise, comes a dream teaming for fans with the first R-rated MCU movie and only MCU theatrical release of 2024. The results for Deadpool & Wolverine are, in so many ways, out of this world.

"My Hero Academia" is one of the biggest anime currently airing, a unique show that is perfect for this superhero-obsessed era, while also acting as a cure for superhero fatigue. That's because the anime, based on Kohei Horikoshi's manga of the same name, takes on a familiar yet fresh approach to the genre.
Essentially "Sky High: The Anime," "My Hero Academia" takes place in a world where 80% of the population has some sort of superpower -- some incredibly strong and cool, others mundane and kind of useless. With so many superpowered individuals, being a hero is a government-sanctioned profession you go to school to study for, which is what our protagonist Izuku Midoriya is hoping for when he enrolls in U.A. High School. The show follows the lives of the U.A. students as they learn what it means to be a hero, both in the classroom and...

"The Boys" is back for season 4 and things are as bleak as ever. Homelander is not just in charge of Vought, but his murdering of an innocent man in broad daylight has earned him even more supporters than ever. (We're well past the point of Homelander being a Trump allegory in subtext only.) There's also the problem of Butcher being terminally ill, while head-exploder Newman is even closer to the White House than before.
The most important subplot of season 4 seems to be the duel of fates that is the fight for the soul of young Ryan Butcher. Last season, Butcher got scared of getting close to the kid and ended up pushing Ryan right into the arms of his dad, Homelander. He could have been a normal kid, or even the greatest weapon against Homelander, but now he's his apprentice instead.

Director Mike Mitchell revealed plans for a canceled Sky High sequel involving the original students as teachers at a superhero college. Cast members Mary Elizabeth Winsted and Kurt Russell were set to return for Sky High 2, which unfortunately never came to fruition. Mitchell envisioned a fun transition from high school to college years for the characters at a place called Save U, promising an exciting sequel.
Director Mike Mitchell is opening up about every key detail from the canceled Sky High sequel. The original movie was released in 2005 and followed the adventures of a group of students at a high school for superheroes. One of legendary actor Bruce Campbell's most memorable roles is as Coach Boomer in the 2005 movie Sky High. Almost two decades later, Campbell said he would reprise the role if a sequel gets made.
Recently, Sky High director Mike Mitchell addressed his plans for a sequel that ultimately stalled in development hell. Fans have been showing disappointment over the planned sequel getting scrapped, and they are calling for the movie to finally move forward. One fan noted in a post on X that the only way the sequel will work is if Campbell returns as Coach Boomer. That prompted a response from the Bubba Ho-Tep star himself, who enthusiastically stated, "I'm in!"

Almost two decades after Sky High was released by Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, many still believe it deserves a sequel. Among the bunch is director Mike Mitchell, who recently spoke to ComicBook about the films future, highlighting the key stars who wouldve returned in a potential sequel. Despite earning only $86.4 million at the box office, the superhero comedy gained tons of positive reviews over the years since its release. This ultimately led Disney to express interest in creating a squeal and a spin-off series, which were put in early development. Unfortunately, there has been no progress even to date.

Is there any actor who casually oozes coolness like Kurt Russell?
As with anyone in Hollywood, the young Russell had to earn his stripes. Upon signing a contract with the Mouse House, he started out anchoring a collection of zany Disney comedies in the '60s and '70s, including "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes," "The Strongest Man in the World," and "The Barefoot Executive," a movie that paired him opposite a chimpanzee. Beginning with their 1979 made-for-tv "Elvis" biopic, however, Russell and director John Carpenter collaborated on a series of highly efficient yet firmly modest genre films, many of which became cult hits and cemented their too-cool-for-school reputation.
Russell has only continued to evolve his legacy in the 21st century, starring in everything from cult favorites as worlds apart as "Sky High" and "Bone Tomahawk" to Quentin Tarantino joints and blockbuster franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and The Fast...

Considering the Walt Disney Company owns, well, everything these days, calling one of their films "underrated" seems a little silly. And yet, if you ask me, "Sky High" is undoubtedly the leader of the underrated live-action Disney roster. Just before Disney became the parent company of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the studio put out a family-friendly coming-of-age superhero comedy that, as /Film's Rafael Motamayor once described, "poked fun at expanded universes, superhero legacies, and every trope in the book." The story centered on teenager Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano), the son of famed superheroes Steve Stronghold/The Commander (Kurt Russell) and Josie DeMarco-Stronghold/Jetstream (Kelly Preston). He's poised to be the next great hero after he starts training at Sky High — a super-secret floating school for superheroes and sidekicks — but Will doesn't have any powers.

Disney is a huge conglomerate with stakes in every genre of films and shows. The House of Mouse has established itself in genres such as sci-fi with Star Wars, animation with Pixar and Disney Animation, and the superhero genre with Marvel. The company also acquired Fox Studios, thus owning the Avatar franchise as well.
While Disney has been the parent company of these studios, they largely operate on their own. Hence, when Kung Fu Panda 4 director Mike Mitchell was asked if his Kurt Russell starring superhero film Sky High would get a sequel, he mentioned that it would make more sense for Marvel to take over and develop the film as Disney wanted Marvel to be in charge of superheroes.

One Of Succession's Greatest Monsters Is Playing The Beloved Creator Of The Muppets In The SNL Movie

Jim Henson was a creative force of nature whose singular creative achievement continues to enchant adults and children alike 34 years after his tragically untimely death. Indeed, whether they're teaching us to count or goofing around with flesh-and-blood movie stars, we need the Muppets now more than ever. They're felt, furry joy machines that reflect their creator's humanistic vision of the world.
So if you find yourself tasked with portraying Henson in a film about the mid-1970s creation of "Saturday Night Live," you might want to cast an actor whose previous characters have embodied these noble qualities. If so, you might not immediately think of Nicholas Braun.
Best known for his portrayal of the clumsily conniving Cousin Greg on Jesse Armstrong's scathingly funny corporate media satire "Succession," Braun's characters tend to make our skin crawl. Okay, he was adorable as Zack Attack in "Sky High," but that was...

"Sky High" remains one of the better Disney movies of the 2000s. It is a superhero film that satirizes the genre, telling the story of the son of the two biggest superheroes on the planet and what happens when he enrolls in a high school for superheroes. Yes, it is essentially a live-action version of "My Hero Academia" (which now has its own version in the works), but funnier.
The family-friendly film was ahead of its time, and it had a stacked cast that included — much like "Scott Pilgrim — actors who would become big shortly thereafter, like Mary Elizabeth Winstead and eventual "Succession" actor Nicholas Braun. It's a fun movie with a simple premiere that could easily hold a much larger world we never got to see. Every adult acts like they could have a trilogy of films, and every young hero and villain looks screen-ready for a much larger role.
