I have just seen this documentary film during the 2004 "Santa Fe de Antioquia" film festival in Colombia. It shows the history and the current state of a colony of African slave descendants living in an area named "Palenque". Many of their customs are shown, mainly related with their music and dances.
Residents in Palenque, descendants of escaped slaves taken to Colombia during the Spanish colonization, have for long time lived isolated into deep forest areas, far away from cities. The documentary shows the surviving customs of African origin that remain in their culture.
In the documentary there is a main character named "Patata" through whom him and his neighbors life is presented. In the final part of the documentary the "Patata" character meets "Toto la Momposina", a popular female singer who specializes in countryside and traditional colombian music, in particular from the northern part of the country.
