Throughout scenes on board the train, Andrew Elkin can be seen apparently motionless in thought behind James. The truth is, he was attempting a particularly tricky course on Super Mario Kart, using director Andrew Davidson's Gameboy Advance, and hadn't noticed that a scene was taking place.
Many of the additional cast worked with Andrew Davidson and Katherine Reeve at the Odeon Cinema in Stoke-on-Trent.
Production was stopped for six weeks because an accident before filming commenced at the location rendered the train carriage unusable.
The final shot of the train as it pulls out of the station was shot three weeks after the completion of principal photography. It was shot by Andrew Davidson and took five attempts over nearly seven hours. On the final take, the departure of the train was delayed several minutes as the platform was cleared as best as possible. It also stopped raining long enough to get the final take in the can, on each other occasion the rain started just before filming and stopped after the train had left.
