ANTOLOGIA DEL MIEDO (Anthology of Fear) was a collaboration between writers Ismail Rodriguez and Julio Bracho for a proposed 26 episode TV series that was never picked up, leaving only three half hour pilots completed. "La Puerta" (The Door), directed by Luis Alcoriza, and "La Mujer del Carnicero" (The Butcher's Wife), directed by Rodriguez and Chano Urueta, were compiled into a single feature that saw theatrical release in Mexico on Sept. 25, 1968, under the rather unimaginative title "La Puerta y la Mujer del Carnicero" (both would also be shown individually). Seemingly lost to the ether is the supposed 27 minute short starring John Carradine and 8 year old Patricia Colin, "Los Chicles" (Chewing Gum) likely a straight role for the 61 year old thespian, coming off a previous feature for Rodriguez, "Autopsia de un Fantasma" (Autopsy of a Ghost), boasting the final screen performance of Basil Rathbone, alongside Cameron Mitchell as a mad scientist. His time south of the border would be extended several more months after signing a four picture deal with producer Luis Enrique Vergara, exactly one year before Vergara scored a similar contract with Boris Karloff. The inability to finance a full series has left "Los Chicles" in total limbo, but Vergara's Carradine vehicles have all seen the light of day, none ever dubbed into English and only recently earning suitable subtitles: "Pacto Diabolico" and "La Senora Muerte" for director Jaime Salvador, "Las Vampiras" and "Enigma de Muerte" for director Federico Curiel. The following decade saw Carradine adding two more Mexican entries, "Mary, Mary, Bloody Mary" in 1974, and "The Bees" (Abejas Asesinas) in 1978.
